either this rumor or the rumor stating that we want 85 for a 3rd is inacurate now i really want us to go out and get 85 for that 3rd if thats true and lets have ronnie back and then see what #9 can do with those weapons

why not just take 2 #1s from dallas ? I dont know what people see in a one good season QB that would make you think of giving up the #1 overall? Apparently some people enjoy us sucking.

But if we didn't make that pick, we would have deprived the CFL of it's most popular running back!

I'm not opposed to trading a 2nd round pick for him. That would be a bit different than trading a 2nd rounder for a 27 year old backup QB with limited experience, or trading a 2nd round pick for a 29 year old former Pro Bow QB that has a shredded knee, or a 5th round pick on a 37 year old QB coming off a serious concussion.

Derek Anderson has fewer question marks than any of the QB's we traded for, and is 2 years younger than the other 'young' QB we traded for. And outside from maybe Culpepper, Anderson probably has the best overall talent. I don't see how some people can be behind selecting a 26 year old QB in the 2nd round, but when it comes to trading a pick for a younger QB that has just as much talent and has actually had NFL success, they scoff at the idea because he's another veteran QB and we've already spent enough draft picks on "veteran QB's".

we could have picked that man up as a FA. I still dont know WTF was going on with jimmy that season. Im pretty sure that was the beginning of the end for us. Still i think it really set in how bad this pick was when i saw him in the XFL

1 question. How good can he be if they are willing to trade him for a 2nd. If he was a star, and the browns knew it they browns wouldnt give up a proven young talent for a 2nd.

    1) Cleveland doesnt HAVE a first, no swapping or anything of that nature.
    2) Anderson is not going to be traded for the #1 pick in the draft
+ Anderson put up a lot of points, moved his offense effectively, big parcells type QB
    - Anderson threw 19 INTs, did not play all that well in the last 2 games (must wins), no other experience

Hmm. at most id be willing to give up San Diego's pick for him. The guy has ability, but all those INTs are hard to ignore, as is his less than great performance to close the season. I would not give up more than 1 pick for him. We need to add players at multiple positions, and we need to have a solid and deep draft to continue adding more talent to this team.
I think if we can get away with sneaking him for a mid round pick we go for it. Other than that, I think we pass.

This concerns me too. People say getting a "proven" guy like Anderson would be better than taking a QB in the draft, and yet Cleveland is willing to part with him for Quinn, an "unproven" draftee, and a lukewarm one for most teams as well.

Why? Yeah yeah, to much money, dont want a controversy etc, but bottom line, parting with a franchise QB is usually not a good idea. It smells fishy.

just throwing this out there as well: Eddie Moore over Boldin.
Still not as bad as the Brees decision, but a monster flop on that one as well.

It depends on how they view Quinn. Even if the Browns view Quinn as Anderson's equal, they're probably going to lean towards keeping Quinn over Anderson. The Browns gave up an awful lot to get Quinn, it would look pretty bad on them if they chose to keep Anderson and gave up Quinn for a fraction of what they gave up to get him. Quinn is also under contract longer........

They could end up keeping both QB's, but it may end up being the smarter the move to deal from a position of strength to fill a hole elsewhere.

If we did end up trading our 2nd round pick (32nd overall), it would be more like trading a late 1st.

There's no way they would even consider trading him if they didn't already have Quinn in the wings. The Browns have a #1 WR and a great TE, but they have very little receiving talent behind that. They do have a strong running game, but when you consider the overall talent they had on offense, scoring 25+ points a game is an amazing feat. .

Quinn had the #1 selling jersey this season. I think he is Cleveland's QB of the future.

I can foresee a scenario in which we do trade a 1st and 3rd for Anderson, but not the #1 overall.

If Parcells is able to trade out of the #1 spot, and acquire multiple first round picks, then I can see us possibly trading one of those firsts for Anderson.

And many will say Anderson is a 'one year wonder'. But the reality is, he still performed extremely well this season, which was basically his first shot as a starter. Which is more than can be said for most NFL QBs. He definitely has a lot going for him.

    Right.. And a 1st and a 3rd come on? I don't know that i'd even seriously consider a 2nd
(#32.) He had one solid year. That's a hell of a gamble. And we all know how trading for other teams QBs have treated us. AJ Feeley was having a great year when we traded for him the following offseason, how'd that turn out? I say, no way.

He is a risk, but trading a 2nd round pick on Anderson and hoping for a repeat performance would be a much safer bet than spending a 2nd rounder on Beck in hopes of being the franchise QB of the future.

As for being a "1 year wonder", it's not like he (Anderson) was some 30+ year old scrub QB when he put together his good season. I think being only 24 only increases the odds of long term success, his big arm doesn't hurt either.

Why the hell would the Dolphins give up 2 draft picks for this guy? Do we only have 1 or 2 needs and then we're Super Bowl bound?

    You're comparing apples to oranges.

A.J. Feeley was a career backup, that had all of 158 career passing attempts at the age of 27 when we traded for him. Anderson has full season under his belt, is 2 years younger than what Feeley was when we traded for him, and has a better tools than what Feeley has to work with. They're not comparable.....

As for Culpepper, everyone knew the risk that he came with. Even if he did work out, he was already 29 years old.

We only saw Beck in a few games this season, games in which he was without his starting RB, his receivers were in the bottom half of the league in talent, his TE's were nonexistent and the offense was very bland. We haven't seen what the kid can do when his offense is at 100%, give him a chance.

Spending a 2nd rounder on a guy with one decent season under his belt is exactly the mindset that got this team in the mess it finds itself in today. No thanks

I agree that you can't just throw around draft picks trying to get players. But you really have made no argument as to why you think Anderson is a 'one year wonder'. Not saying he isn't necessarily, but atleast provide some rational argument.

And you have no evidence whatsoever that he is worth what it would take to get him or that he will come close to duplicating his "decent" season.

    No thanks

It's okay to draft a 26 year old in the 2nd round, but God forbid we trade a 2nd rounder on a 25 year old QB with better measurables and comparable tools that has actually had success at the NFL level........

Has anyone considered that DA's 2007 success may be attributed to some very good talent at the skill positions and a much improved o-line? Let's get our line and receivers to the same level and see how Beck does.

If he had 2 years of decent numbers I would consider trading for him, but not at what it will apparently take to get him (1st and 3rd) not to mention the $$$ that he is going to want based off of that one season. Under no circumstances do you give up that type of haul based on one year of production, it's foolish and you agreed with me.

The argument isn't about whether he will be a fine player in his career, the argument is what will it take to get him and is he currently worth it.

    I say no.

I see AJ Feely written all over that trade if it is made. Draft picks, especially 1st 2nd and 3rd rounders are so valuable and this year you can get some very good players in the 3rd at some of our need positions. Right now we don't know what we have in John Beck because we didn't see him with a very good supporting cast. But he was drafted to be the guy, he has the tools to be the guy and Ireland said that the Cowboys were pretty high on him. What we need is a veteran QB to come in here to back him up or step in if Beck isn't ready.

But to throw away major assets to get a guy with one good season on his resume is silly. Been there, done that.
