i just won a game 102-7, lol. this guy was playing static through the headset the whole time. he was playing like a jackass. after i got up 7-0, i picked him off twice, both times he ran all his defenders out of the way so i would score. then he comes out and does hurry up the entire next drive and scores. so i told him that if hes gonna play hard the rest of the game then ill give him mercy in the 2nd half if he wants it. but he does the same crap the next time too. i pick him off, he runs away, static the whole time on the headset. so i tell him im gonna run up the score as high as possible if thats the way he wants it. then he gets 3 encroachment penalties in a row, causing him to auto-disconnect. at that point i think it was 28-7. so i let the CPU score on their first play of every drive for the rest of the game by calling a punt block defense. Then i get the ball and score and repeat. I ended up with 102 points, and he ends up with whatever he had before he quit, 7. Not sure if it matters. I usually score about 50 points by playing a regular defense against the CPU when my opponent quits in the first half. BUt it was cool to see how much i could score if i really wanted to. I hope this guy goes back to check the score and then checks himself into his local pWn3d trauma clinic.
i dont know. the next guy i played was pretty good. he beat me with a FG in the last 2 secs. I tied it up with a minute remaining, and then he went 60 yards in 50 secs with no timeouts and almost threw a pick in the endzone with 2 secs left. i wanted OT so bad. he was trying to run the clock out the entire 2nd half, but i made him fumble on a QB sneak, then made him pay. but he got me in the end. this guy had a screen play that was pretty much unstoppable, if you didnt run over and slam the RB while he was trying to catch the pass. He would manually run the RB over to the left directly behind his blockers. The QB would throw him the ball immediately and he would have 3 blockers in front of him to pancake my secondary. He only burnt me with it twice, and i snuffed it like 5 times. but he got it when he needed it. oh well though. considering how well his offense worked, i guess i did good to hold him to 13. i also missed out on 3 redzone opportunites for points. i guess thats what killed me.
How are the phins a 78? They didn't actually update anyones stats really... JP got a boost, but thats it. Ronnie, Chad, Ricky, Long, defense (crowder went up 1), are the same...
Wish I could play Madden or any sports game for that matter. I have tried several times but I just can't make heads or tails out of what I should be doing. It sounds like you guys are haveing a blast.
I have got to stop playing people using bad teams. I am trying to get better at the game though, so I use lower rated teams so I have to use skill over talent. Kid beat me with the Pats last night and more then once I had him in a 3rd and 20 or longer and he completed long bombs to Moss, just doesn't seem fair, I cant keep up with these receivers! I get burned all the time on this one play and it pisses me off.
If the guy is constantly throwing deep balls, please 3 deep or prevent. Six DB's out there and I doubt he completes the passes. If he does, your team lacks talent lol.

Also, are you letting the CPU simpy try to break up the pass or are you using L1 (PS2) to jump and break up the pass? Are you controlling the DB nearest the receiver ever?
Heres what you gotta do. If you have a small CB, use "A" to knock it down. My rule of thumb is, if I'm behind the WR, knock it down. If I'm in front, go for the pick. Also, you can old A or Y as soon as you switch to your CB/S/LB/DL and they'll go for the pick/knockdown at the balls highest point automatically.
Back your secondary off before the play starts (Y then LS up). If youre playing cover 3, there will not be any safety help, it will be one on one with the CB. If you arent good at taking control of your CB to break up the pass or get the pick, then use cover 4 zone, or man cover 2. Also spotlight moss everytime. You could also manually control your safety.
situationally it works. in zone coverage, if a spotlighted player is near the zone of a defender, that defender will give up his zone and play man against the spotlighted player. its not like you can spotlight someone and expect to stop them automatically or get an int. but if you know they are going to throw it to moss, then spotlight him and it may help your safety get over to the play. remember to back up your coverage. and spotlight. i think spotlighting also helps against pump fakes. i almost got burned bad on a pump fake a few minutes ago. Last play of the game, the guy needed a 70 yard TD. I had cover 4 zone. Romo pump faked as soon as he snapped the ball and Newman jumped to the inside and let TO run free down the sideline. The only reason i didnt lose is because he didnt take control of his WR and catch the underthrown ball. I didnt use spotlight or back up my secondary that time because i forgot to. But if i did, he wouldnt have even had a chance. prevent is the worst defense ever. the qb could probably scramble for a 20 yard first down against it. or just throw an underneath route to the RB and get an easy first.
If they're going deep, then why not? Play with a quick end or linebacker underneath coverage. In that case, you spy on the QB as well as play coverage if he goes on a short pass.
Not going to work... I wouls send guys on slants drags, and in routes and get a 1st every time. take control of a safety on Moss's side and send him deep. Also,are you using rush defense at the start of the play? My CB get blown out if I hit it. Who're you playing with BTW? One aspect of the old gen I missed is making my #1 CB shadow against their #1 WR. Why they took tht out for next gen, no idea... Defense is still better on old gen from what I've read.

I'm up to 7 losses in a row. I lost to Felix last night by one point. re did the niners phins game, but I was happy I lost. I was the niners.
my opponent quit right after halftime, which give me the ability to watch replays during the game. so i try a new defensive play with some modifications, and i go to watch the replay. As usual, it starts playing epic nfl films musics despite the epic fail of my defense. But after i exit the replay and go back into the game, the music continues. Its actually pretty awesome playing with that music on. Makes the game seem like one big highlight reel, kinda like practice mode. I dont know why this happened, but it quit doing it after i paused the game again, and i cant get it to do it again. But i got one cool drive out of it.
maybe go back to the basics. focus on getting 3 or 4 yards at a time, and on not giving up huge plays. sometimes my tendencies change from playing someone who does one particular thing well. if i hit a slump, which im in right now, i go back and work on the things that worked for me in the beginning.
Argggghhhh this game's doin my'ed in! I can't stop the long pass at all on this game or pass protect! I've been trying to vary the play calling - pretty much scripting the first two series but I couldn't hit water if I fell off a boat! I always play as the phins and am pretty good at stopping the run (mostly) but the opposition receivers are wide open on streaks every time - yet I try it and I'm shutdown! The last 4 games I've just been playing just to get on the scoreboard!

I played a big D-bag yesterday. He clicks on the Raiders (71 overall) so I play nice and pick Miami (78). I click ready, and he switches to NE and hits ready before I can get off Miami and get NYG (The team I use vs. Great teams). I probably would have taken Dallas because of their secondary though. He starts the game off with a bomb to Randy (vs. 93 speed Goodman). Touchdown. Mind you, I'm a user pick freak... He torched me and torched me and torched me. Anyway, he does it all game. It's 35-35 (He stopped me twice). I switch Will Allen (96 speed) to my 2nd CB to cover Moss (Because EA is to lazy to give next gen madden the old-gen matchup feature). He switches Moss to #1, I have to do the same, but he always gets a matchup for 1 play, and that's all he needs. Early in the 4th I get a big pick on a deep ball, and score asap. 42-35. He deep balls again, 42 up. With 2:20ish left I slow down my offense. Obviously I can't stop the deepball. I need to milk all the clock left and kick a FG FTW. I do that, and win 45-42. Why do people need to pull that **** to win? If I lost to NE on deep balls all game long, I'll be fine. Tricking me into taking an inferior team *In Madden ONLY* is idiotic.
Aboome, can you explain to me how to rocket/spectacular catch? I practiced for a bit last night, and only got 2-3. Not really sure what I'm doing right or wrong. Maybe after you tell me, we can play and you could run it on me a few times so I can have the visual too. *note- I do not want to use it in the league or anything.
