I'll give a call up to Gargiola Junior and tell him to get his BUTT in gear.

Yeah, I doubt it as I dont think they really want to spend the money on a third Ace..

I think Relief help is gonna be where they spend their quarter...I would say Dollar, but compared to the -big spenders *cough* Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs *cough* they only spend quarters on the dollar.

Peavy wants to stay in NL no AL. His hitting as a pitcher is a huge benefit. I believe he hit like .265 this year.

Most likely wants to join a contender. Well, there is one in the division and they sure have nice pockets of change and right in the same state as San Diego. :tongue2:

Despite clean bill of health, Padres are gauging Peavy's trade value

According to the Padres, Peavy is completely healthy, and thus likely to perform as well as he has in his peak years. Too, Peavy's average fastball velocity has increased in each of the past five seasons. Peavy's MRIs check out as clean, said General Manager Kevin Towers and Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod.

Bro we have so many needs right now. It could be any position from pitcher, middle infielder, a bat in the outfield, to a veteran catcher. We also need speed on this team.

Padres exploring trade options for Khalil Greene.

Organization exploring trade offers for popular shortstop

The Orioles, Reds and Tigers are among those interested. The Nationals and Padres discussed a Greene trade this past summer, but the Nats aren't in play this time around.

“We're looking to improve the ballclub,” Towers said. “If we move Khalil, Luis Rodriguez is really our backup shortstop and second baseman, so we would create another hole by moving Khalil. There are some ballclubs that have interest in him, but they are also waiting to find out what the going rate is on shortstops.”

Looks like everything is changing for the Padres this upcoming year. I will miss Matty V. calling the games with Mark Grant.

Vasgergian leaving Padres broadcast team after seven years

For the first time in seven years, the Padres will have a new TV voice in 2009.
Matt Vasgersian is leaving for another job – the specifics of which won't be announced for another day or two – leaving Channel 4 San Diego searching for a partner to work alongside Mark Grant.

Knowing how good Matt has been and is, it's almost like I knew this day kind of inevitable,” Grant said. “I'm happy as hell for Matt because I know he's going to do great. And yet, on the other hand, I'm going to miss him. “When we were talking a couple weeks ago, he said, 'Gosh, Mud, I feel like I'm breaking up with you.' I said, 'I know, you're just leaving me on the doorstep.' But it's been a great run.”

Padres narrow field for Jake Peavy trade talks : North County Times - Californian

DANA POINT, Calif. - The San Diego Padres have narrowed the field of suitors for ace pitcher Jake Peavy, focusing on three National League teams.

Peavy's initial list included Atlanta, the Chicago Cubs, Houston, the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis. Towers wouldn't identify the three main teams he is dealing with. He intends to have discussions with one team this week. Talks with the other two "were down the road," he said.

In today's papers during the GM meetings Kevin Towers was bowling with the Cubs GM. They did another activity as well, so they are probably the leading team for Peavy.:wink2:

I'd still guess the Braves. Read this on the Cubs interest today, could be wrong of course.

Padres might be best served by waiting to see who loses the C.C. sweepstakes.

PADRES: Peavy derby starts to narrow : North County Times - Californian

The Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves appear to be well ahead in the Jake Peavy sweepstakes, though the Padres said no trade was imminent as of Wednesday night.

Wednesday afternoon, a Padres source said the club was working diligently with the Braves, Cubs and Dodgers, and that he believed a straight-up trade ---- as opposed to a three-team deal ---- could be accomplished.

Organization pulls Hoffman contract offer from the table

Trevor Time may be over in San Diego.
Four days after reliever Trevor Hoffman's agent said he is disappointed that the club hasn't set up a meeting with Padres owner John Moores, the Padres Monday withdrew the $4 million offer to the all-time saves leader.

Thats actually smart on the part of Peavy. I ALWAYS wonder about stuff like that when a guy is traded. If Escobar is included in the deal to get Peavy that means we'll have to let Brent Lillrbridge play (good defensively, bad offensively) or pick up someone in FA.

On ESPN News tonight, the Padres were talking to both Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Cubs. They also said a unknown team may enter the talks as well. They said the deal could be done by Thanksgiving.

Last night rumors were it looked like the Braves were close to a deal, now this? The saga continues.

Wonder what the Angels would have to give up. I also wonder how Peavy would do in the AL.

Towers might have to broaden scope of Peavy trade talks

The Yankees and Angels could be next in line, but that doesn't necessarily mean Towers' job will become easier.

The Dodgers are the only other team on Peavy's preferred list that drew attention from the Padres in the past two weeks. Towers has said he is seeking advanced young starting pitchers and middle infielders, and the Dodgers may have better depth in that area than either the Braves or the Cubs.

I want Peavy but not if we're overpaying. Said they wanted McDonald before and I'm sure they'll either ask for him or Kershaw plus more. Colletti's right. A division rival like the Padres will demand more than usual and unless Towers wants to have a fire-sale, Peavy may cost too much.

Kouzmanoff undergoes surgery to resolve pain in right shoulder

Towers on the Jake Peavy trade talks: “It's really come down to one club now – the Cubs,” he said. “It's going to take awhile. They have a couple of players to pick from that we are interested in but anything with them is going to potentially involve a third team or fourth team. We're focusing only on them.”
Towers said his conversations with the Yankees “were not substantial” and that he told Yankees GM Brian Cashman “until I get the go-ahead from Jake, I'm not going to” explore trade options with Cashman.

Padres, Towers making progress on potential Peavy deal with Cubs

If a deal is struck – and sticking points remained Tuesday night – Towers said it likely will not be announced at the winter meetings, which end Thursday, because the Padres first would need to drop players from their 40-man roster, now at 37. The pruning would anticipate the arrival of several players – many of them pitchers – plus up to three minor leaguers from Thursday's Rule V draft.

Figure Moores' next pitch will be to buyers

The irreconcilable differences involved in dividing controlling interest in a big league ballclub during a contentious divorce have forced John Moores to reevaluate the viability of keeping the franchise in his family.

Oh man, you know what that means?

Back to rebuilding for the Padres, AFAIK, Rule V draftees have to stay on the Roster the entire year or they revert back to their previous teams..
