Miami - Pro Football Weekly Smiley’s broken leg represents the third major injury to the Dolphins this season, the first two being Thomas’ Lisfranc fracture and WR Greg Camarillo’s torn anterior cruciate ligament last week. Actually, those aren’t just the three major injuries, they’re the only three significant ailments to afflict the club. Considering the brutality inherent in football, the fact that Miami’s avoided filing the saturated injury reports that most teams do — especially this late in the season — has undoubtedly aided Miami’s postseason aspirations.
Makes me wonder how Shawn Murphy's development is coming. He must not be ready otherwise we'd have heard something about him getting a shot.
I dont consider losing three important young players being lucky at all. It puts a lot of questions in our future because of these catastropic injuries.
Once this team gets more depth these injuries will hurt less (look at teams like NE and Indy) but it will always hurt when you lose starters. This year with a thin team even though the injuries have been low in number they are multiples of that in importance.
If I remember correctly, I think Murphy was tagged as a 'project' after Thomas took the RG job in pre-season. I don't know if Shawn needs to improve his strength, his technique, his understanding of the blocking schemes, or all three, but I seem to remember Sparano saying the guy was a 'little ways off' from starting at guard in the NFL.
He has been just about the most disappointing of all the Parcells draft picks. Not as disappointing as the Wilford FA signing though.
Glad McCown didn't work out he is terrible and never wanted him. Got a draft pick out of it so can't say he was a complete waste.
Well, they are both on the Practice Squad, so who knows ... McCown came cheap, and was probably one of the better options among a weak FA QB class. I'd rate the worst moves as: 1. Wilford 2. Wilford 3. Wilford 4. Wilford 5. Wilford 6. Wilford 7. Murphy Wilford gets listed 6 times because we gave him 6 mil guaranteed.
Earlier this season Sparano said he wasn't ready... not even close IIRC. I'm thinking he is a project for next year or the year after.
