I know what you mean by big talents because of big schools. That is the way the two teams in Ohio drafted for a long time and it shows by their poor "evaluations" over the years and the productive player percentile being low. I haven't seen Hunt play but sounds like an interesting prospect. Faster than English off the edge? Damn and you know how I feel about English. I watched Shaughnessy against Illinois I think it was and he didn't impress me as much as I had hoped. Many talked him up and he doesn't look like a better player than English or Julius Williams in my opinion, whom both are rated lower than him.
Here is a link to a sack by Hunt. It is old, but you can see the explosion right there. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdKvZWG-Fnk]YouTube - 11/11/06 UH Cougars - SMU Mustangs Phillip Hunt[/ame]
Nice. Looks like he has a great burst, quickness and closing speed. You say he relies on his athletic abilities?
Moreso than technique yes, at this point. With good coaching who knows what he'll become, but he has the ability I think.
Thanks. He seems on the short side as an OLB but I've read he has played ILB as well. Thoughts on that? By the way, I also read he broke Tulane's QB's collarbone in two pieces on a sack. LOL.
Con & alen, I'll throw a question your guys way. In each of your opinions, who are your top 3 OLB prospects for Miami? I'm guessing Sintim is one...English? Who else?
Well my personal top 3 may be Sintim, English and maybe Kirston Pitman. It is still pretty early, but my favorite is Sintim.
Thanks fellas. I'd have to agree with Sintim being the favorite. I was very impressed with English from their game last week.
Good eye, interesting clip. Kind of reminds me of the guy from UGA that the Colts took last year- Marcus Howard or something like that- explosive off the edge. But Howard was I'm guessing around 6-0 230, and this guy is listed at 6-2, 260. Works for me. You can't teach that kind of explosion. Just my opinion, but guys like this and English (I confess I haven't seen him play, going on selected board opinions here) are prime targets rds 2-7. Joey Porter isn't going to be around forever- age and injuries. Nothing wrong with explosive LB's, though your argument for Sintim makes sense. Nonetheless, I'd rather go elsewhere in rd 1 and make a play for English in rd 2 or even reach up a round later on for this guy. I have no idea where this guy will go- Draft Countdown has him listed as the #18 DE. This is my idea of a VALUE DE/OLB convert play. Great call.
Hunt is a player whose stock will rise, but his ceiling may be lower than Julius Williams in the eyes of many. It will be interesting to see what happens but I think both players will rise from where they are. Personally I like Williams over Hunt but that doesn't mean it will pan out that way. Come the combine or all star games, one of these guys will show up and make a name from himself. Both I would expect to be drafted no later than the 4th by the time all is said and done. By the way, I know a lot of people like NFL Draft Countdown, but to me many of his player evaluations are off. This site is much better NFLDraftscout.com check it out if you haven't already.
Yes and no. NFL Draft Scout has Oprapko as #1 DE, I would assume that you're not crazy about that. Just my opinion, but I still look at this class as being top 10 and even top 20 weak. Curry #2 seems high, then I consider what else is out there. If I had a top 5 pick this year, especially top 1-3, I'd be bumming. Those picks will become overpriced assets. Who is out there- Michael Jenkins? He's good, but #1? Geez. I'd have to go with Chris Wells or Eugene Monroe in a desperate attempt to find value, and in my mind they don't cut it either- but they are very good. Just not great, and not worth top 3 money. If I were the Lions I'd be all over Stafford or Bradford if they came out. I can't believe that Culpeppper walks throught the door, says hello, puts on a uniform and starts for them right out of the gate. Now that is pathetic.
Oh yeah there are things there I don't agree with, but thats everywhere too. I just meant that in comparison to Scott Wright NFLDS is a much better place to get information regarding players. To me they are much more accurate overall. There will be some guys you don't like at certain spots but it is also about personal preference there too. I am just as much of a fan of Scott Wright's stuff as others. Sometimes his evals are contradictory and off IMO. I think that if Juniors come out and Marinelli is still in Detroit then you could look for a guy like Senderrick Marks maybe to get the nod. This year is pretty tough at the top, no WR, QB, DE etc warrants the pick right now. Maybe another OT but that's a little tough too if you think Andre Smith is the guy - now that guy I have big issues with and wouldn't come near him this early in the draft. Tough to tell this far out, but once the machine starts moving after the Bowl games then it becomes much clearer in a hurry.
Between Marks and Stafford/Bradford I don't even see a choice there- they have to take a QB. If Culpepper walks through the door and starts that says all that you need to know about the state of that position. They already made the mistake of passing on Cutler and Leinart (yes, even Leiinart) for a 5-11 LB, even though he's good. Marinelli may be defensive minded, but at some point they have to see the light. No really good QBs there for 50 years (Eric Kramer was pretty good)- they have to take the risk and build around a guy like Stafford in my opinion. Or Bradford, but I believe he's a sophonore. p.s. I would take Eugene Monroe over Andre Smith. pps. Stanton is on IR- he's done nothing to impress this year, been nothing but injured for 2 years, but maybe he turns it on next year. He did have his moments at MSU. Who knows.
Maybe we can trade John Beck to them also. A QB who might be worth a look is David Johnson from Tulsa, the kid can play.
Detroit and Dallas should be all over John beck like a cheap suit. I still like Beck to Dallas for Miles Austin. If Detroit passes on a QB in RD 1 they really should hedge themselves and take Beck. It would be well worth a 5th or sixth rd pick. I still have a thing for Beck, I hope that he turns his career around. I think that the guy can play.
