you guys all suck at this. Step 1 - stop going to smut sites Step 2 - come be the official Morwarp home party girl Step 3 - win
hmm. i don't know then. i don't run windows so if I lose my disks or the ones I have don't work I just burn more.. that'd be illegal for you. any windows ppl out there?
Well, of course, your hard drive has not been formatted. Ultimate Boot CD - Overview NTFS files are bears to deal with.
Geez amateurs kill me. Press F8 continuously to get into the BIOS as soon computer starts. Change the boot sequence to Boot from CD. Insert the disc and reboot. The process will begin. Follow all the on screen prompts. It will ask you if you want to delete the partition. Go ahead and delete the partition. Then it will ask if you want to create a new partition for the operating system. Say yes to this. Just do it NTFS. I usually use the quick option. I've never found there to be a difference. Once that happens it will reformat the drive and walk through the install process. This will completely wipe the drive including any virus's you might have had. Make sure to grab any drivers you might need or backup anything that you want to keep. Usually the drivers are re-installed from the disc with common hardware. By all means grab a free antivirus like AVG immediately as soon as you are back up. An unprotected High Speed connection can be compromised in minutes. I also recommend running a firewall. Good luck!
you know, I had a virus a week back. Did all the anti-virus software, ran them for hours, no fix. then I backed up my stuff, did a simple system restore to a week previous, and everything was as good as new so I'd recommend that if this is a new problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084
System Restore will not rid your computer of a virus. It merely restores you to an earlier period of time. The virus is still there trust me. Many virus authors intentionally write viruses with the same extensions as Windows files that are monitored by System Restore. That being the case, it is common for people to have a virus, then run virus scans to remove the virus. But, once System Restore is used to recover their computer to an earlier date, it is very possible to introduce that same virus back in to the system. When a virus is found on a system, System Restore should be completely disabled, all Restore Points should be deleted. Then scan the system with anti-virus software. After all parasites have been removed, re-enable System Restored and create a new Restore Point.
1. You still want to format your hard drive and start from scratch right? 2. This is Windows XP, right? 3. You do have a CD that says "Windows XP", right? Input please
Then you are obviously doing something wrong. Are you sure you are booting to the CD. You can't just put in the disc and reboot. You have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS first to boot from CD. I imagine this is the problem but.... Can you explain exactly what is not working for you please.
fins i agree with him this could be the problem. most newer computers are set to do this automatically but if your comp. is older you have to edit it manually. BIOS is the basic input output system. when the bootsplash screen pops up there should be some numbers telling you how to get into your BIOS. You have to click it kind of quick to get in. Once you're in you have to find the boot area and select your drive to boot from CD first. You could burn gparted and just do it with a live CD. that's how i do it. it would still require you to know how to set the system to boot from CD (which i'm guessing you accomplished because you said it didn't work meaning you must have tried) but once you do that you can edit/delete/resize/reformat etc etc all in one window.
Ah, but you did. Where does she say we're talking XP here? Why do you assume she actually has a Windows CD (some systems come with a recovery CD that doesn't actually perform a full installation)? We should establish the operating system first and then find out what kind of CD we're dealing with, which is why I asked these questions to make sure.
Bloody hell do I have to read it for you? http://forums.thephins.com/lounge/18571-any-computer-genius-out-there.html
i know one thing. arguing about who has or has not done something isn't going to get this fixed. i think we all know how to do this.. like i said it's just harder to explain. here's a video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmpazHBzXjY&feature=related]YouTube - Partition and Format a drive with Windows XP[/ame]
Anyway.......... This is the right way to do it finsgirlie. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0cop_am1WM&feature=related]YouTube - How to Format and Reinstall Windows xp[/ame]
There's no need to format the entire hard drive if it's - as I would suspect - just some spyware. The task master thing is easy to fix provided I knew which XP version (Home? Professional?) is used and Spybot could easily solve the other issues without losing all data and going through the hassle of a new installation.
So all spyware and virus infections can be cleaned with Spybot huh? They have been writing viruses to get around that thing for years. Sorry when it comes to eradicating viruses you are outmatched mate. If you read the thread the issue was to try to accomplish a clean installation.
i still say install linux. little to no viruses, period. well.. at least you'd have to grant it permission to multiply anyway.. yeah i know. i'll shut up. not what she wants the videos on the previous page should help ya out girlie
I thought about possibly installing it on one of my other machines. I've heard good things but I have never tried it.
the only thing i use windows for anymore is recording. linux is picky with peripherals.. ubuntu is ahead of the curve with this but it's not as easy as windows. give it a shot if you want. just get something easy to use like ubuntu or xubuntu if your system is low on hd/ram. there are many other (better depending on what you want) distros but ubuntu is def. a linux beginners dream. it's got everything you want right out of the box. web, office, email, media (almost).. http://www.ubuntu.com or http://www.distrowatch.com = other distros. http://www.delicious.com/anlgp/ubuntu http://www.delicious.com/anlgp/linux EDIT: slitaz is the smallest distro i know of if space is an issue. it comes with a lot, too. i contribute so i can tell you all about it.
what have we told you about e-mailing Lucky w/o protection Mandy? See what happens when you let him put his mail in your inbox?
i dont understand it....how can you guys turn something as innocent as a ****ed up computer into something sexual?
it's all part of being a guy and ****ed up computers aren't innocent. they're sexy. oh so very sexy. and they're just begging for your attention. take this 12 page thread for example.
