Thanks. That was a good read. Kind of makes you feel for Beck. Too bad it isnt going to work out for this kid, not here anyways. He seems like he's definately got all the qualities you'd want in your QB. I think he's right, he's going to get a chance somewhere down the road. There's no doubt in my mind that he's going to be ready for it, and not look anywhere near as bad as he did here in his brief time. Too bad things aren't going to work out differently for him her

I have my doubts that he'll be ready the next time he's given a chance but I do believe he'll stick around the NFL long enough to eventually become a decent backup.

There have been NUMEROUS cases where a QB gets a second chance with a different organization and it pans out.

Put Beck in a good situation and I think he could be a very effective QB. He obviously doesnt have enough talent around him in Miami at this juncture.

I actually think his qualities are very similar to another kid who DID prosper in Miami, but that kid had the likes of Jim Langer, Bob Kuck, Larry Little in front, Paul Warfield to throw to and of course a backfield of Csonka, Morris and Kiick to hand off to.

Nothing but high hope for you Mr Beck. Hope you prosper somewhere...outside of the AFC East of course.

It's a real shame for Beck, that he didn't get the opportunity here thanks to both Cam and Bill, however, I don't fault Bill since who'd have guessed that Penny would fall into his lap ?? At any rate, he's not the type to let his dreams die because it didn't work out here. There have been many QBs who didn't make it coming out of school....Moon, Green, Dilfer, Tarkenton, Delhomme, etc...he'll get his chance...

He'll get his chance. Just look at the names that are starting right now, and tell me he won't get another chance.

I don't think anyone on this site wishes bad things for Beck, at least I hope not. I truly hope he gets a chance elsewhere to learn the position without the pressures he had here. Seemed like everytime I saw him playing last year he was running for his life or didn't have time to see a receiver before he had a defensive player in his face. Evidently Parcells saw the same things because Beck is still here but some of those offensive linemen are gone. Its too bad he didn't come in the league a little younger because that doesn't give him as much time to develope.
I'm excited about Henne but feel kind of sorry for Beck, after all he didn't choose where he would go in the draft. That choice was made for him.

I'm a huge fan of Beck but until he stops playing like he has a dynamite in his hand, I question if he will ever be a player in this league.

With his heart, attitude, faith, and effort, Beck will make it somewhere on another team someday. I truly hope he gets his shot and makes the best of it.

Well, when Griese got the job, he didn't have any of that. Went through some very rough years before we started getting good players around him.

The kid has the tools to make a great QB, I just wonder how badly his mind has been effected by this? All the tools in the world won't matter if a player (especially a QB) is playing scared or without confidence.

Isn't that the truth, people tend to forget those first 3 bad years plus the fact that in Bob's second year they drafted another QB because there were questions about him also. So much for Bob's history but you can name alot of great QB's that got mistreated in their first few years and then got lucky and went on to have great careers. Some of whom became HOFers, Johnny U is one that comes to mind for me, so hang in there Johnny I still believe in you! Your day will surely come.

Dont forget that Favre was actually drafted and traded by the Falcons. I would say his chances at the Hall are pretty solid.

And even if it isn't a future as a football player, this man is someone you would want your kids to emulate as a MAN. He seems to be a dedicated husband, father and solid citizen.

I have no doubts that when the epitaph is written for John Beck, it will be that he was a man of his word & faith.

True. And I was in the Orange Bowl for that 1st start of his career against the Denver Broncos in 1967. It was rough for 3 seasons, and then it all clicked when Shoes got here in 1970.

beck is still on the roster and that means he has some upside. ya'll seem to be writing the guy off. i'm not, really just cause he still has a job here. the staff must believe he has value of some sort, maybe just trade value, but many folks have been shown the door around the dolphins facility and the kid has stuck. personally i like the idea of henne and beck competing next season. beck, like all qbs needs some stability. next spring we have henne and beck both with one season in the same system, let em' go out and play, may the best man win, this could be a battle to start with penny in the mix also. i'm not partial to any of the 3, penny has been great this season and the best under center we've seen since marino IMO. he also seems to have some arm strength limitations, but his play has been great, few ints and high qb rating. its possible beck with a season in this system might out play them both, possible. from a management standpoint if you think its possible you keep him here and find out, period, its the smartest move to cover all options. if the coaching staff doesn't see it he will get released or traded and that is that.

    Love your post.
I can't see writing Beck off. The guy was on a bad team with a bad coaching staff and fo. Thrown out there with no help or support and expected to be good.
Now, the new regime comes in, tries to change his throwing style etc. and people wonder why he has no self confidence.
No one can keep taking the flak like he has and keep his self esteem up. Look what jj and wanny tried to do to Dan. And I think in some small way they did take some of his confidence away.
I like Beck and I wish a team would get him that would take time to develop him as a qb should be.
I don't care that he's a grown man, playing football and gets a big salary. None of that helps when you try your best and still get ignored. People act like he's not even around here anymore.
I say good luck to him what ever he does or where ever he ends up.
Be kind now, bashing makes me soooooooooo sad.....

i disagree with saying Beck has everything you could want in a QB. he obviously lacks the ability to perform under pressure. Having the right attitude does not win games, sorry.

I was surprised KC San Fran didn't try to pick him up at the trade deadline actually. He will be a good QB in this league if given the time to grow and the rest of the supporting cast. Holding him accountable for last season is like holding the chef on the Titanic accountable.
Starting training camp next year w/ Pennington, Henne, and Beck as 123 would be farking awesome! No need to spend a pick on a QB, no controversy.

I agree dolphindebby. I do think that this FO, and maybe even the coaching staff, have done just that, written him off. Why else the rumors of trades? I just think that it is in John's best interest to be traded to a team that wants him enough to give him a good shot at being their QB. The only support I see given to John at this time is whatever he makes for himself.

Two years spent overseas in the environment he was in didn't break his spirit, this is a cake walk compared to that, he will overcome this setback too.

I remember, full well, the bashing that Steve Young took while at TB and most thought that Bill Walsh was crazy to mess with him. The last laugh was on the fan base at Tampa. Steve goes on to win a SB and a place in the HOF plus you never hear him talk of his years there, only how great the 49ers were to play for. Will John Beck turn out the same way or not, who knows, but the last laugh just may be on the Dolphins for the lack of 1 inch and 10 pounds, what a shame.

The best of luck to you Johnny, you deserve it!

    Interesting.

You already write Beck off with "Obviously lacks ability" as he was behind a very bad line with a bad team his first year in the league....BUT

Ginn gets an open pass, he has been far from stellar, with much greater expectations, at a less demanding position, especially on returns where the arguement is he didnt have a good supporting ST around him last year....

    Hmmm...........
