It could definitely happen, especially in MMORPGs where you develop "friendships" with other players in the game. That is why I keep my game relationships just that: game relationships.

The father should have monitored to a certain degree his son (a minor) in terms of his online activity. It is not Activision/IW or Microsoft's fault for sure.

Its awful and all that this kid is missing... but Maybe the father should blame it on the bad parenting that allowed this kid to play non stop and get "addicted" to the game... get your kid involved in some other activities

Seriously how far could a 15 year old get on his own with presumably no money. He is probably hiding out at a friends house playing Call of Duty and the friend's family probably want tell because the kid said his parents beat him or something similar. If the parents were smart they would log onto the Xbox to see if their son has been on or is on, because if he was addicted I would just about guess he is at someones house playing the game.

A 15 year old playing an M rated game to begin with. Wonder whose fault that one is?

No question he should have intervened earlier but his addiction could be like a drug addiction. He may have to go for a fix and just stay there. Honestly if I put myself in the kid's shoes that's what I would do.

It's true that every 15 year old kid is playing them BUT that does not dismiss blame to the parents. There is a reason for the rating system.

Some people are unbelievable. They ignore their kids and let them play endless hours of video games, not being involved in their lives enough to know what the hell they are doing. then, when the kid does something they turn around and blame someone else. If it is not TV it's movies or music or video games...

    How about blaming yourself?

It's simple to me. Don't let your kids have a television in their bedroom. Don't let your kids have a computer in their bedroom. If you MUST do both, simply cut off the internet (a splitter switch or something) at a certain time every day.

I meant it as the parent's fault, as is the issue entirely. I am saying don't blame a game (one they shouldn't have in the 1st place), when the parent got the game for them, and could have fixed any problems long before the current one.

i think the simple answer would have been not to let the kid have online in the first place.

It is illegal for a 15 year old to purchase an M rated game, that is the so. That means it is the parent's fault, not a video game's or a machine's fault.

Sad ending to a sad situation.

I read in another article like he likely fell out of a tree and the injuries and cold weather contributed to his death.

I don't think he should be called "gamer," unless that is his profession. It would be just as accurate to call him former bed wetter Brandon Crisp. I mean, they just whip ignorant (about video games) people up when the media says something like that.

Agreed, the kid probably went on a walk, climbed a tree and sadly fell to his death. Or at least hurt himself to the point he wasn't able to make it out.

None of that has anything to do with video games.

The ending to this story is very sad. As a parent of a 14 yo boy, I have peed in his cheerios a few times. He wanted to play GTA4 but I would not let him, along with a few other games. IMO COD4 is not that bad and I question it's M rating. My boy does not play any adult rated game without me playing it 1st and I rate the game. I limit his playing time, and have gotten a live account, so he can not play online. But this is just me.

Realistic war time violence where 90% of the time the sole purpose of the game is to kill the enemy does not deserve an "M" rating? How is it any different than an "R" rating for a war movie?

Huge nerd is addicted to playing games on XBox Live. His parents were sick of him doing nothing but playing video games all day, and tell him enough is enough, and they're going to take them away from him. So, naturally, he runs away to the woods, where you can play video games all day, and your parents won't hassle you about it. Pure genius.

My parents took away my video games from me more than once when I was that age, and I just KNEW it was because they didn't understand, and didn't care, and just wanted to prevent me from enjoying myself.
I didn't run away like I was 6. I made a deal with them (housework, yardwork, improved grades, etc.) to get my games back. Then the next time they took away my games, I made another deal to get them back.

This story is just further proof of the decline of our species.

To me the violence is no worse then what you can find at 3 in the afternoon on the history Channel , Discovery or any of the countless channels out there. Games like Doom, GTA etc... now those can get bad.

You're right. Obama could've saved this kid. There were just 2 things working against him:
    1) not old enough to vote
    2) he lived in Canada
