I don't think any team would be that stupid but you never know.
Of course I think the trade would be us giving a team a draft pick if it happended.

No one is going to trade for Tua. He’ll be released post June 1st, the Dolphins will bite the bullet on his contract and move on from there.

The people who scapegoated Tua aren't here anymore.

I highly doubt Ross is signing up for a 5+ year rebuild.

I'm interested in what the new GM has to say and who the new coach is. If it's a guy like Bob Saleh who will build an elite defense right away, is he going to want to try and develop a young quarterback? Probably not. Just keep Tua you're already paying him.

If it's a no name guy like Jeff Hafley then the rebuild is obviously on. Just cut Tua and just play irrelevant, non-competitive football for the next three years.

No money for the new coach? What are you talking about they can pay whatever they want.

Why are they going to be so bad without Tua though?

Maybe he meant no cap space for the new coach to bring in some players?

Nobody is paying half Tua's salary. But - especially in such a weak QB draft - someone might pay in the 5-10 million range. That helps a little bit more than just cutting him. I still think he'd be a good fit for a team like the Vikings who have a low salary contract QB who needs some pressure. He could also be an option for the Chiefs to tread water until Mahomes returns.

I think you're dead on- try to trade him and if there are no buyers out there, keep him as QB1/QB2 since you're paying him either way. Besides the actual roster spot, there's little incentive to cut him.

One of my buddies is a Steelers fan I am making him panic by telling him the inside information is the Steelers are wanting to hire McDaniel, and he wants to bring Tua with him, I know I am cruel, but that is what he gets for being a Steelers fan.

I assume once the head coach gets hired there will be a press conference. I'm gonna guess they will give the political "we're going to evaluate everyone on the team" line.

McDaniel did all but everything to try and ruin Tua and his trade value. If I was the new GM, I would say Tua is or will be competing for the starting quarterback job of the Miami Dolphins.

Well, one good thing about benching a QB1 for a short period of time is that they really get to think about how much they want this. Next season, we could see a much thinner, much more determined Tua that plays like the kid we once knew. And I agree with you, if we see the fire again then by all means, let the kid start.

On the other hand, the best player should start regardless. I would love if he won the position back though because that solves so many headaches this team can't afford to have.

Simple. They have no money because of his bad contract. With or without him we will have a top 5 pick barring some miracle draft.
And Tua is done dude admitt it. He is afraid to get hit and slid on numerous occasions before the first down marker in critical situations.
His arm is weak and has the mobility of a sloth.
Tua is the reason Harbaugh and any other veteran coach didn't give us a second thought about coming here.
You want to keep him fine doesn't matter either way.Next year will be a long season.

Wait...people are actually arguing that we should be starting Tua next season?

Like whether you liked Tua or not, it's pretty obvious that there is something physically wrong, I think his hip is shot.

I would argue that he should start if he's the best QB on the team. If not, then he shouldn't.

Remember, we have no money to go out and get anyone. So it's going to be someone on the active roster, someone we draft, or someone we grab off waivers. Maybe if we cut Tyreek then there's some wiggle room, I'm not a cap guy. But we'd really have to luck out to grab an aging veteran or free agent that's going to be a legit QB1.

If Tyreek, Waller, and Waddle stay, then maybe that would lure someone on the cheap. That's about the only way we're getting a QB upgrade next year outside of hitting in the draft.

Unless we offload Tua, he should be the default backup to give the new QB game experience. The one exception is if the coach thinks the new QB shouldn't just be thrown out there week 1. Then you can start Tua and transition whenever the coach thinks it's best.

This is logical. Tua would beat out any mid/late round rookie and Ewers in training camp. Especially for what is more likely seeming to be a rookie head coach, they would want a quarterback with experience starting Week 1.

Just because we are on the hook for him at insane money in no way means that he should see the field. Make him the emergency QB if you must lol

Key, he was probably technically "the best" this season, but he still should have been benched by like week 7, and Ewers should have started the rest of the way.

Whilst I think there is something physically wrong, I think the bigger problem is motivation. Admittedly they may be intertwined.
Even if Tua shows up next year in great physical condition we just don't know how long that is going to stick before he backslides again.

I think what people on here are saying is that Tua will have an opportunity to "compete" for the starting job during preseason IF...IF we can't outright release him and IF he is not traded.
Nobody here wants him to be the starting quarterback. I haven't seen one person suggest that. There is, however, a realistic scenario where he is, unfortunately, still here. Some of us are at least prepared for that. Again, I'm not saying I want him here, but if we can't find a taker for him, and outright releasing him isn't in the cards, then yeah...Like it or not, Tua will be here, and if so, I could see both sides at least temporarily reconciling until if fails again.

Now If Ewers and Cam Miller are the competition in training camp, then it's very plausible that Tua beats both of them out rather easily. Some fans see something in Ewers that some of us don't see, and that is totally fine. Just the fact that there was a new face in there who could actually throw the ball downfield was enough to pique the interest and intrigue with Ewers for myself. The thing of it is, what I see is a 7th round pick who is, at best, a Colt McCoy-level backup in this league. Believe it or not, (and I'm not saying you are doing this), but there are other people who hate Tua so much that they're willing to suggest that they are right about Ewers being a better quarterback after only starting three games, as opposed to being "correct" about that statement. That doesn't make me a Tua apologist, I just don't think Ewers is better. I think something was physically wrong with Tua this past season. You may be right and the hip may be the issue. We probably won't know until next season when he's still here and the team tries to sell him to us as the starter once again.

Just so we don't get off track here, and I don't get words put into my mouth, that in no way means that I'm advocating for Tua. That said, I do not think that Quinn Ewers is our future, much less our lockdown QB1 next year. As painful as it may be, you may want to brace for a possible Tua contingency plan. In other words, a "what if." I don't think it's far-fetched to suggest that Tua may, in fact, start next season as awful as that sounds. The thing of it is, he's making 50+ million dollars with two years remaining? Or is it three? Either way, I don't see Ross allowing that to just rot on the bench. I don't care if Ewers is a Texas gunslinger who has a taxidermy fetish, loves oil, and wears Donald Trump cologne (another reason why people are so enamoured with him since we politicize sports and players now). If Tua is here, there's a chance he may actually be the starter because A. A rookie coach is most likely giving the veteran the work at least for the first few weeks, and B. Tua is still making stupid money, and Ross will look all the more foolish if Tua is simply banished from playing while still collecting that insane amount of money.

Silly room temp IQ level suggestions such as "Send Tua to the practice squad and let em learn a lesson" or "Trade him to the Cardinals" are about as unrealistic and ridiculous as they sound coming from the blowhard on Facebook belching them out over a greasy cheetoh stained screen. He's put up numbers in this league, he's led in some of the most important and impressive statistical ratings. If he gets it together physically for next year, he's at the very least a backup every Sunday, so the whole not even letting him dress for games idea is way off base as well (I've heard others suggest that).

I really hope I've been clear and concise in this response. I damn sure don't want to have any more confrontation on here. I'm just pointing out a different side. I don't think it's a lock that Tua's gone, and I don't think it's a lock that Ewers is our guy for even next season. I don't liken Quinn Ewers to a franchise quarterback from what I've seen thus far. Mike McDaniel was the one who made the call to start him, and I believe that arrangement was terminated the minute McDaniel was. If our new head coach is tied up with Tua for next season, then we're probably going to see Tua in the game at some point, and that may be as early as opening day. As far back as I can remember, the vet QB has always opened the season as the starter more times than not. Russell Wilson did it this year. Quarterbacks have a long shelf life in this league. Look at Geno Smith! Guy is the roach of NFL QB's! You can't get rid of him! Unless Tua is medically done, we're going to see him in this league again at some point, hopefully not with us. I just think the fact that we are so deeply financially hog-tied to him leaves the door open for this to happen as $hitty as that would be.

It's like having a car that you desperately want to get rid of, but no one will buy it for your price. At some point, you're either going to take a loss and get what you can for the car, or you're going to say "FK it" and continue driving it. You can't screw any unknowing buyer over with this thing; the dealership might give you a bottle of water for it...It'll be a massive loss, or you just drive the car, take the loss of your manhood for a year because you're still driving the car, and then try to sell it again. Or you donate it to your dip$hit 16-year-old nephew. You could also drive it in hopes of maybe wrecking the car completely or driving it off a cliff. I guess that'd be an option too.

Look...When Ewers took over, I immediately felt like we had seen Tua play his last snap for us. I felt that way up until McDaniel was canned. That door has been left open, and I hope we slam it shut. Stick to the plan, lose some money, and kill off the three-headed dragon.

Oh BTW, me personally....I'm 40/60 on Tua returning next year. Gonna hold on to the bet that he's gone. I'm hardly a believer in miracles at this point.

He hasn't had any real value since the contract and since the concussions. This season just reinforced it. McDaniel wasn't trying to prop up Tua for a trade, he was trying to build a case to stay as the coach. We had no real GM or front office to make a big picture decision on it either.

Realistically, a trade will be structured as us getting a 6th and a few million in cap relief (let's be generous and say $8) while the other team gets Tua and a 7th. I do think there are teams that are willing to roll the dice on him at a price like that, but we certainly be getting a mid round pick, or a big chunk of the salary taken off.

Though, it would be interesting to explore a Brock Ossweiler scenario where we ship Tua to a team with excess cap space and no expectation for a year or two to take, say, half the cap hit and we give them like a third round for their troubles.

An issue with Tua, that doesn't go away, is that you cannot depend on him. Say he shows up in shape and sharp, how do you have any confidence that he won't be broken by the first hit he takes?

That to me is why no team is going to want him, and why I think we would be foolish to depend on him as QB1, even if he were to win it out.

I don't think Ewers is better than Tua, overall. I think he seems to be better at some things, and I liked what I saw from him. I wish we had seen him start more this year so maybe we would have a clearer picture of him. The dude has some serious skills and potential.
