Its also possible Grier is going to retire or move on some kind of advisory role which was rumored this offseason. Its probably the best explanation for him making moves like a guy who will be here for years. I don't think he would feel safe even if Ross told him he was.
Yeah hard not to see Champ Kelly in the GM role. Let Grier finish this offseason and take the heat for the reset year that's coming, then Kelly is promoted to GM while Grier takes some upper tier spot with little to no actual say. By all accounts, Ross still really loves McDaniel and he will be back barring something catastrophic. Will be interesting to see if Ramsey allows us to get a decent pick in return. He's still got some good value as a player, the reason we got him so cheap was that he held the cards and essentially demanded a trade from LA to Miami. If he is good with a wider net this time, we could get something of value. I'm getting to the point where I don't even care about the Tyreek cap hit if this season is going to be a total rebuild. Just flush him and be done. I think the cap hit is less if we do a post June 1 trade. Send him to a contender for like a 6th next year and let him be someone else's problem. Use this year as a measuring stick for some younger guys and to see if we actually want to extend people like Phillips or not. See if Tua can stay healthy. If not, he can go too. Draft wise, yeah it's hard not to see Barron/Johnson as the pick, though DT is still a major hole as well. I know every fan of every team always says trade down, but that may be a good option here if available. I'd be talking to the Chargers, Seahawks, Broncos and Steelers. Would help if Sanders falls, but hard to see him getting by New Orleans with the Carr news. I'd also keep an eye on Detroit - their GM hasn't been afraid to make big draft moves. If they really love a guy, they will make a move. It's not a strong draft, so I wouldn't expect to fleece anyone, but sometimes a somewhat depressed seller's market can drive more buyers than expected and you can get OK value. Would we really be that much worse off if we took Starks or Grant at 22 vs Barron at 13 while getting an additional third this year and fourth next year for example.
I hope your right. This sure seems like a rebuild year to me. If Grier retires and we are rebuilding what will this mean for McDaniel?
Last September, the Dolphins rushed to give cornerback Jalen Ramsey a contract with a new-money average of $24.1 million, days after the Broncos made cornerback Patrick Surtain II the highest-paid cornerback with a new-money average of $24 million. Fewer than eight months later, the Dolphins are looking to trade Ramsey. Which means they never should have given him his latest contract. A trade will have significant consequences. Based on the terms of his contract from last year — and the existing proration from the prior deal — a trade before June 1 will trigger a $25.213 million dead-money charge. After June 1, a trade would split the dead money into $6.745 million in 2025 and $18.468 million in 2026. Ramsey has already received a $4 million roster bonus on March 16. The best time to trade him would have been before that bill came due. Ramsey also has a fully-guaranteed option bonus for 2025, in the amount of $18.98 million. The new team would be on the hook for that payment, along with a fully-guaranteed base salary for 2025 of $1.255 million. That’s $20.153 million for a 31-year-old cornerback whose best days are in the rear-view mirror. It makes for a tough sell. The Dolphins may have to pay some of that $20.153 million to make a trade happen. They’re going to pay it anyway, thanks to a contract that seemed like a stretch at the time and that now can fairly be called ill-advised.
Hopefully, there’s more going on than just trying to move Ramsey, who (oh by the way) has been one of the more consistent and reliable players Grier has brought in.

Grier and his dumb *** statement that they’ve decided that for both parties it’s best they move forward without each other lol
For this coming year it's certainly asinine, but in the longer term it makes some sense. Big bloated contracts on aging players are being dumped. Tyreek will be gone either this offseason or next. Ramsey is going. Armstead is gone. Chubb probably soon as well. And frankly, is it necessarily a bad thing? Clearly we couldn't get over the hump with those players and those salaries. Why not start the process of retooling. We aren't bad enough or bereft of talent to need a full rebuild. A good draft or two and we could be back on the upswing.
Also i dont know why we had to release this statement.. announce the trade when one gets done, i dont see how announcing this before anything materialized, favors us in the trade talks… its like theyre trying hard to sell a used car on a website but cant get a call.. such a weird way to handle this. With that said.. I suggested here during the season when all seemed lost to trade Ramsey to a team that desperately needed secondary help like the Buccaneers.. their db’s were dropping like flies every week…
I wonder if Ramsey was the guy routinely late for meetings that was mentioned by McDaniel late in the season.
So we need; 2 starting Corners 2 starting defensive Lineman 2 starting Offensive Lineman 1 starting safety. Only 7 holes to fill in the 22 starting positions…things are going great. (And that doesn’t include we can use some depth at Tight end and Edge.)
Maybe that's the plan. Even if Tua plays a full season (which is unlikely) this is looking like 5 or 6 wins at most.
If he is actually making the decisions (notably the draft picks) vs. just being the fall guy, then sure. If he's mostly a figurehead remaining in place to take the heat and blame for the time being, I feel better.
I can definitely see us competing for 1st pick. So.many holes to fill and not even including on injuries that we are sure to have.
Rats off the ship, to bad the biggest rat is still here and is still calling all the shots. Wonder when they‘re going to build Grier a statue…
Planning for Manning? Things aren't looking good at all. We have gaping holes everywhere and an injury prone quarterback. With that said, guy's like Ramsey and Hill need to go. You want a culture change, it starts with weeding out the toxic personalities on this team. We knew this would happen with both Hill and Ramsey.
For the most part, we knew what we were getting with Hill; was Ramsey that much of a problem at his previous stops?
Between his comments about having our starting safeties “on the roster already” , his handling of the Ramsey situation, and his naming of Hill as a “quality human being “ who is also a team leader, I think Grier is circling the drain.
If we weren’t so dysfunctional we could of manifested this relationship while he converted to safety and had our own Charles Woodson for the next five years
This clearly is not just what the team is doing to improve our "Cap" position; but it is indicative of what positions are going to be prioritized going into the draft. I see this as an appropriate approach to becoming a more complete team in terms of the teams' positional depth, player position selections in the draft and player development across both the Offense and Defense.
He caused a big scene in Jacksonville when he wanted to leave. His stop with the Rams wasn't too bad.
Ramsey and Hill were not fans of each other before joining team. Ramsey is a guy that wants to win, he might be a diva, but I've never heard of him doing anything outside the lines that Hill does often. Campbell gone, Armstead gone. Ramsey is left as the leader with Hill and sees Hill getting away with his antics over and over. Feeling like this last Hill issue caused Ramsey to say he is done with this circus.
I'm not sure he has the mentality to have that kind of relationship. It makes sense from a talent standpoint, but not sure the player would cooperate. I mean aside from demanding a trade out and then kneecapping them by saying it had to be Miami, sure.
Yeah, hearing people call Ramsey a head case and/or a distraction didn’t really ring true with what I’ve heard, especially when compared to Hill.
I think when on the field he will give you what he has, and he's not a bad human in the way Hill is. But he's now 3 for 3 at forcing his way off a team. It's pretty clear that as soon as his team doesn't look to be elite or is taking a step back, he's out. That's his choice, and Grier should have seen it coming. But it's also evident he's not necessarily a team player.
Non of this is Ramsey or Hill's fault, it is all Grier’s fault. Grier is the one who gave them more money and extensions when there was no need to do, of course they are going to take it. And it's Grier who built a **** team with a weak armed bult out of glass QB who can't win any big games or be depended on to even be available. It is no surprise Hill and Ramsey want out of the **** show Grier has built.
Don’t know who Ben Levine is, or how much insider knowledge he has, so with that said: https://www.profootballrumors.com/2...jalen-ramsey-mike-mcdaniel-led-to-trade-talks
Grier said a reconciliation isn't out of the cards yet. Who knows? Maybe Ramsey likes the 665 pounds of meat that was added today.
Seems like with all the smoke there is some fire. What is strange too, is that in that Salguedo article it explicitly states that Ramsey is fine with Grier. I don’t think we’ll go anywhere next season, the bad thing is, I don’t think Grier will be going anywhere soon no matter the results. Seems like Ross is happy with what hes got, giving McDaniel the game ball after a meaningless win and when you look at the videos from the draft.
