We are at a point were not only do we need the Yanks to play far better baseball then they are currently displaying, but, we need several other teams to start playing the way the Yanks currently are. that is asking a lot!
what does it matter if the Yankees turn it on and make the playoffs? It looks like the Angels are gonna steamroll everyone, and the feel good story might be the Brewers anyway no need to rush guys back from injury. Just keep everyone healthy and allow Cashman to continue playing smart in the offseason
Truthfully I would like to see the Yanks make it, but don't really care as much anymore this season. They do not seem to have a team that can win it all. However, All I REALLY want is Boston to not make it. I am sick of every Boston Team doing well. Too many "fans" are coming out of no where being a PITA. The few I know have always cheered are not as annoying, but the woodwork ones are killing me. As for feel good story, are you forgetting the Rays? I think that is a HUGE feel good story.
You always want your team to make the playoffs, so many times, the team to beat and the run away favorite simply falter. Yanks have proven you dont win on paper! Get in and give yourself a chance. But I too wouldnt do that at the expense of injuries. So we will see. Also, if the Yanks do not make the playoffs; its quite possible Cashman isnt around for the offseason moves, etc. I wouldnt put it past the Steinbrenner clan to let him go!
Wow, you are an optimist. Sorry man, but the Yanks are done. I just keep cheering that someone knocks Bos out.
Things just have not materialized to date that would have put our best foot forward. Dissapointing to say the least.
Its not over until its over. But if the yankees do make the playoffs then will win it all. Reason i say this is they need to play their best baseball going into this...they got to stop winning 4 and losing 2...They need to win these series. They need a win tomorrow, take 2 out of 3 in LAA, a sweep would be even better, Sweep tampa at home...take 3 of 4 out of the white sox's sweep bal. there no way they should lose to them at home. take 2 of 3 against the blue jays and finish your season strong by beating the red sox. Its going to be hard for the yanks to make it but its not over yet. Its funny that 4 of the teams in the AL wild card has more wins than anyone in the NL West
Wow you really still think the Yankees can make the playoffs? I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but I don't see how they even have a chance anymore. Right now the Yankees are 8 games in the loss column back from the Red Sox. The Sox have 21 games left and the Yankees have 22. Let's say the Red Sox go 10 and 11 in their last 21 games, then they finish the season with 93 wins, for the Yankees even to get to 93 wins they have to go 17 and 5, which they're not doing with a pitching staff that includes Ponson, Pavano, Rasnar and who ever else they use to spot start. Even Pettite hasn't been good lately. I said it before and I'll say it again, Cashman made some big mistakes going into this season and even during the season. Not even talking about whether to get Santana or not but how he didn't pick up Paul Byrd? I know Byrd isn't a superstar or impact pitcher but he is a huge upgrade over the other guys the Yankees have thrown out their plus he would have kept them from the Red Sox who had their own problems with their staff at the time. Yankees have a lot of work to do this offseason, they need a new CFer, 1st baseman and maybe need to think about moving Cano.
hey i got the red sox winning the division, i can see the rays blowing it...not saying its likely but they can. Look what happen to the mets last year. Im not going to give up until the post season is here and the yanks are not in it. in the mean time im rooting for the red sox to sweep, yankees to go on a roll and the rays start losing.
Not a Yanks fan...but man....the game was surreal. Its hard to believe there will never be another game in the house that Ruth built. Great game. The pregame and post game events were very classy.
what a sad night. All those memories. man, some of the best memories of my life happened in that stadium. the new place will never be the same. oh well. nothing ever stays the same i guess. i sure will miss it
Not really a Yanks fan but I remember my first time at Yankee Stadium fondly. Sad to see it go with all that history.
Never was at the stadium, got offered tickets 100's of time and turned them down each time. I'm not a Yankee fan, so why go? To me Shea was the Temple, Yankee Stadium was an after thought. From what I understand, the Yankees really didn't need a new stadium (from friends that have season tickets, or I said had season tickets)
Well, my dad was a Yankee fan in his time at Columbia so he always brought me there whenever we were in NY.
Whats everyone think of Cashman being back. I think a solid move he drafts decent when they spend the money and until I actually see it, we all know the Yanks will overpay for players and take overpaid stars from other teams. Its the Yankee way.
So would alot of other teams. As much crap as the Yanks get for spending money, the Red Sox, Mets, etc... aren't to far behind.
I'm glad Cashman is back. I want to see how his emphasis on youth and the farm works. I think 3 years should be a good amount of time to see also, including the last 2-3 years he's put into it also. With that said, don't be surprised to see the Yankees bring in one of the "3": CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Derek Lowe AND Mark Teixeira. Plus, I can see the Yankees taking a look at re-signing Abreu, Pettitte, and Mussina (although I believe Mussina will retire). Also, I think the Yankees will look into dealing Robinson Cano. I think the Yankees organization (Girardi, Cashman, and Steinbrenner) have grown tired of his lackadaisical attitude.
Smart extension...thrilled with Cashman returning at the helm! #1 priority should be Tex. I know Pitching wins Championships, etc...but I still believe in the Yanks farm system, and our young arms, as long as they are healthy. We have lots of quality arms in the system. Tex's switching hitting 1B bat & defense will be key however.
Now, plan B, is to pass on Tex, and move Posada to play 1B (defense?), go after say Holliday for LF, and bring Pudge/Molina back as C? Then, I suspect with the $$$ they go after CC. I also wouldnt be surprised to see Cano moved this offseason, but I suspect I will say that each and every offseason for as long as he is with the Yanks. (Same with Melky)
Nah, call me old school, rather have MoMo close the old one as he did and be the first to close a game in the new one.
Nah it would make absolutely no sense and does more harm than good, especially in the long run a record like who started/closed the first/last game at a field is meaningless. I mean does anyone even remember and/or care who started the first game at the original YS?
Aren't too far behind? The Yanks are 70 Million over the next closest free spending team the Tigers. Pick one NFL team and give them a 70 million surplus over the next closest team and talk to me about whether parity would exist with that team. Baseball sorely needs a cap. The sport is a joke without it. The fact that the Yanks couldn't even make the playoffs spending 70 million more than the next highest payroll is pathetic.... amusing but pathetic.
