How many times do I have to state my position on Tua? You are completely wrong on my stance regarding Tua. This all comes down to I don't think he's elite, and you are desperate to prove he is.
Don, as usual. You don't know what the heck you are talking about. Backdoor passes only work when thrown behind both the defender and reciever, not in front of the defender and behind the reciever. That ball was slow and underthrown which allowed the defender to make a play on it. The ball should have been put out in front of hill with more zip on it instead of floating it out there.
More zip creates a lower trajectory and the DB defends it or intercepts it. If Tyreek never touches the ball, the DB has no chance to get it. It was literally placed in both of Tyreek’s hands like a baby. The DB took it. If Tua puts more air on it then the safety coming over has a chance to kill Tyreek or INT it. The pass was well within the placement for any WR to catch it. Tyreek DID catch it.
Tyreek is just soft. Remember last year against KC in Germany? The ball was ripped away after he caught it and he looked like a b!tch then too.
Does not matter if it has a flatter trajectory. If he could put enough zip on it and out in front of hill it blows by the defender and is completed. Examples below.
If that pass is in front of Tyreek too much the safety has a chance to hit Tyreek or INT. The ball was literally between both of Tyreek’s hands. Could the ball have been a little more in front of Tyreek? Maybe, but now we’re criticizing a 30 yard throw over mere inches.
He’s definitely not coming down with many contested balls. None of the Dolphins WR’s are. When we watch most other QB’s their receivers are catching that pass 99.9% of the time. Chase, Jefferson, Lamb, Kupp, Brown, Gilson, Flowers, Adams, Wilson, Metcalf, etc… all catch that ball. And when they catch it all we would hear about is how good of a pass that was.
One thing that none of us have talked much about (that I’ve seen) was Tua’s idiotic head first dive this game. This type of stuff is why I think the Dolphins need to draft a QB high. And I’m sure this is something most of us can agree on. Tua has been limited this week in practice for a hip injury. I’d bet dollars to donuts it was from the hit he took on that head first dive. A hit he could have avoided. Someone said it would be admirable to dive like that in the SB, but not in a close, regular season game. I can somewhat agree with that, but I’d take it a step further and say only in the Super Bowl with time expiring and you need a TD. If Tua ever gets to the Super Bowl, and gets knocked out in the 2nd quarter for one first down I don’t think that’s a good decision. It would be an idiotic decision.
He was limping around in the 4th quarter Sunday and the first thing I thought was "oh crap hope it's nothing with his hip". He's gotten lucky several times since he came back from IR but sooner or later luck runs out. I forget which game it was but he dove head first on another play and we all remember the tackle against the Rams where he basically used his head to take down the defender. It's really concerning not just for the fate of the team but for himself. The guy just isn't wired to play with caution. If the right QB is on the board I wouldn't say it's a bad idea but it'll hurt our chances of fixing the line.
5 game average is 89 5 game average against playoff teams this year is 89 in case you can't read. That is average Qb play but I guess I am being dishonest! Lol!
Don't care what Dan thinks but for everyone else. I made that Burrow,Tua chart but can't seem to line it up for some reason.Lines up until I hit post.
Sure I do.One guys average is 109 and the other is 89. Simple math but I guess it's dishonest. My point where u aren't smart enough to comprehend is one Qb is Elite against playoff teams and one is average. I could get a 5 year old off the street to understand that. Lol!!!!!!!!!!!
Wrong. Passer rating average isn’t about adding the passer ratings from 5 games and then dividing them by 5. Maybe I could get my 7 yr old son to explain it to you?
Hint: Tua is like 4-5 points behind Burrow in PR for the year. How can he be 20 points behind, even with cherry picking games, according to you? Maybe your math isn't adding up?
How many times do I have to explain Tua is average against playoff teams. This has been my whole point. The 5 games I picked are the playoff teams he has played this year. Qb rating against playoff teams is yes 20 points lower than Burrows! He has 7 TD 7 INT against playoff teams this year look it up! Burrow 15-2.Which is better? I am done arguing with someone that has a poster of Tua on his ceiling its not worth my time.
Interesting exchange. So danmarino is right on one thing: average passer rating isn't really an arithmetic average. That is, if you have 5 passer ratings you don't average those 5. You have to sum each component of passer rating (completions, attempts, yards, TDs, INTs) and calculate the passer rating that way, otherwise you overweight games with low numbers of passing attempts and underweight games with high numbers of attempts. That's what you do with efficiency metrics and it's how it's done officially. So it's not 89, but instead 91 for Tua's rating against teams with winning records. However, pumpdogs is right about the vast difference between Tua's and Burrow's rating against teams with winning records. Burrow's this year is 110.4 (again, not 109 when you calculate correctly). The discrepancy is due to the vast difference between Tua's ratings against teams with winning records vs. teams without winning records.
My point exactly So I was 2 points off Tua and 1 point lower on Burrow what is that Dan 19 pt difference. Hmm! Thank u. I'm done
Before he figured out what a stat was he was all about "Wins vs losses". Then he only cared about TD's. Now he's figured out passer rating (kind of) climbed onto Burrow's jock and is pretending that someone is claiming that Tua is better than Burrow. Why stop there? Let's compare Tua to Joe Montana or Tom Brady? That way we can really prove that Tua sucks. OR...Let's compare Tua to Herbert in 2022-2023 (Tua's first full seasons) to actual playoff teams. The guy that pumpdogs, and a few others, wanted over Tua. (I'll throw in Burrow's stats just for fun) In 2022 and 2023, both Herbert and Tua played the exact number of "playoff teams"...13. The Chargers are 1-12 The Dolphins are 3-10 (Bengals are 9-7 in 16 games) Is anyone even aware of this fact? You may be, but since the sports media doesn't talk about "Herbert's failure" of being 1-12 most here probably don't. Herbert has 22 TD's in these games. (1.69 TD's per game) Tua has 21 TD's. (1.61 TD's per game) Burrow has 25 TD's (In 16 games) (1.56 TD's per game) Using pumpdog's way of averaging passer rating: (Mainly because I don't feel like adding up everything) Tua has an 88 in these 13 games Herbert as an 89 Burrow has a 93 over his 16 games Now, Herbert's career passer rating is 95.9 Tua's is 98.0 Burrow has a 100.5 So, Herbert and Tua play about the same against playoff teams. Burrow is slightly better. Are these numbers indicative of 3 QB's that are vastly different? Burrow is definitely better, but by how much? Maybe TEAMS actually do contribute to wins and losses and it's not just QB's out there playing all by themselves?
What separates Burrow from the other two is what he did in the playoffs, going deep twice with a trash OL. That counts way more than any regular season stats. That's why I hold Burrow in much higher regard. That doesn't diminish what I think of Tua, just that I think Burrow is better. Of course a sample size of N = 1 is extremely small for Tua (and Herbert who also choked). So we'll see what they do in the future. But right now Burrow is way above the other two because of those playoff runs. And yes I've noted before how Herbert has serious difficulty beating good teams, this year too. The same criticism applies to him.
Everyone here saw the game and acknowledged Tua had a bad game. I'm sure he was hoping Tua had a great game but unfortunately he had to gloat and let everyone know Tua isn't the guy because he's human and had a bad game against a "PLAYOFF TEAM". Can't beat a playoff team as the dead horse is beaten into a bloody pancake.
There are definitely people here more interested in Tua playing badly than the Dolphins winning. And not just interested, they actually want it to happen. It’s bizarre. I’m trying to help him here though. He’s obviously a football novice and if he needs help understanding what he posted I’ll help him. Being close to Christmas and all… lol
