Nothing any Qb can do when in one game you throw 5tds and lose.
    I don't care if it's Brady,Marino,Montana etc.
You score 35 plus 98 percent of time you win

Stats don’t matter! Only wins and losses matter!

Also, stats matter, but only sometimes when I say they matter, and only then do wins and losses not matter!

The more TD passes a QB has the higher their QBR is right?

Passer rating, yes definitely. We can’t be totally sure when it comes to QBR because we aren’t allowed to see the formula. It seems that it is, however.

"Smart" people will preferentially use stats that have the highest correlation to win% because winning is what matters most. Correlation between passer rating and win% across NFL history is 0.634. Correlation between passing TD% and win% across NFL history is 0.572. Correlation between passing TDs and win% across NFL history is 0.48.

So in terms of importance: passer rating > TD% > TD. But yes TD% is very important as you can see.

btw.. Tua was #2 in TD% in 2022, #7 in 2023 and #11 in 2024 (thus far). On average he's really good.

Why are you conflating stats with wins/losses? Only one matters at any arbitrary time that I deem fit… then the other matters for the same reason!

Yeah, Tua leading the league in long passes kinda stopped that.

Smart.people also know Burrow Qb rating is 107 and doesn't matter when ur def is giving up 27 pts a game.

And as for Tua I said recently he was having his best year.
But after year 5 he still comes up small when it matters.Scoring 12 pts and 17pts on the road when ur team needs you is not getting it done.Don't care about his 114 qb rating when you manage 17 pts.
As for Tua who would you rather have Burrow or Tua?

Right.. but you don't put the blame on the QB in that case. Many put the blame on Tua even when he's not the reason for the loss.
Yeah, us not winning against good teams often enough is a definite issue. Not disagreeing. Just pointing out that in many cases we lost despite Tua playing well. Even against GB you have to ask how it is that we can't run the ball in for a TD from the 1 yard line. And of course the defense gives up 30! Hard to win when that happens. Don't think Tua was the primary issue.

And no question, up till now Burrow is the best QB from the 2020 draft. I'd say Tua is slightly preferable over Herbert right now, but both have issues getting over the hump, and both are well below Burrow. Burrow's amazing play despite a crap OL taking the Bengals deep in the playoffs trumps anything Tua and Herbert have done.

I am just saying when we need Tua to play well on the road against a good team he very rarely shows up.Just like yesterday and the entire team for that matter. Last December I witnessed probably one of the most disappointing games I have witnessed in Baltimore last year.I was completely fooled by this team before that game.
And as Herbert I didn't like him either coming out of the draft I wanted Burrow.
Is what it is and now year 24 with no playoff win.
I don't think its going to happen anytime soon.
They are probably going to run it back with this failed regime one more time and rebuild will start in 2025 offseason.

32 teams in the NFL, you add Joe Burrow (I disagree with Joe Glass but ok)…

    Who else?

Guess u haven't watched Bengals games this year. The Bengals line stinks like ours but still leads league in td passes and yards.
    They actually stink every year.

Stats don’t count. Tua led the league, or was near the top, in nearly all QB stats the past 2 years, and is once again playing better than most QB’s this year. Yet you still only consider wins/losses when it comes to him. Why?

You’re missing the point. Those who are so adamantly opposed to Tua would bring up “this quarterback” or “that quarterback “‘who could have played better against Houston’s defense is small.

No, there's just no reason to have a discussion on it, when you can't understand that arm strength has **** all to do with the length of passes (looking at NFL QBs). They all can throw long. It's just that a stronger arm means you can wait longer before you have to throw it.

Again, Don, i know you've seen this explained a million times, so I'm not sure why you continue to act like it hasn't been explained.

So it's not that we've changed our minds in it, but we've realized that discussion regarding it is impossible.

    Who is "opposed to Tua"?

I was opposed to the price tag for Tua, not necessarily Tua himself. I don't care if a QB is flawed, if he isn't breaking the bank.

By the end of Tua's contract someone will break $70m a year and make Tua's deal look like a bargain.

Next year the cap is being reported to rise between $10-$20m. We won't even need to see a QB get paid $70m per year ( although it's bound to happen) to see that Tua wasn't overpaid.

If memory serves me correctly, Tua’s contract only has $8 million against the salary cap this season. That’s less than Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Goff, Lawrence, Burrow, Jackson, Hurts, Prescott and Love.

Next year, I believe it’s only a $9 million dollar hit. In 2026, that’s when it goes UP!!

Sure, but that just means that Tua helped push those salaries higher...I mean that is what happens, right? Lol it's why they have to keep raising the cap, which makes me question why they even have a cap at all?

My position on Tua has always been that he was good, would have a decent career, but that he's never been the best option. You've constantly misrepresented my position.

I don't care what your little stat guy does.

Noticed you were not posting for awhile. Hope you're ok.

lol.. yeah to set the record straight.. we all know resnor has been strenuously opposed to Tua for many years. You go back to the draft and there are so many posts saying he didn't want to draft Tua. Then you have a ton of posts where he says Tua will never be anything more than a slightly above average QB, even with major weapons around him (i.e., many other QBs could do what Tua does). Then many posts where durability is a sufficient concern to not want him, etc. (i.e., only if you ignore durability concerns is Tua decent). So yes he's been opposed to Tua for a long time.

However, what resnor is referring to here is his claim that he thinks Tua will do well as long as we can afford big weapons like Hill etc. He's been consistent on that one. That wasn't really the context of the discussion prior to this post however. We were talking about his play, his stats, and to what degree he's responsible for the bad win/loss record against good teams.

Resnor claimed he has never been against Tua, just his contract. That’s a lie. Lol

The “bad teams” narrative is true, but it’s more of a team thing than Tua thing.
Last season I posted the passer ratings for QB’s against like teams. Other than Mahomes, the QB’s that I mentioned (Allen, Jackson, Tua, etc) overall play about the same against like teams. However, we see the Ravens and Bills winning more than the Dolphins.
And then we have the constant moving of goalposts and flat out double standards by a few here.
In one post it will be “Tua didn’t do enough against team X” (even if he has an elite passer rating), and “stats don’t matter only wins”.

Then the same people will write, “Burrow is terrific! He can’t help that his team lost. Look at his stats! What else can he do?”

Other QB’s get the benefit of poor Oline play, poor defense, etc. while Tua is never afforded those things.

And of course we have the “I never said that” when they are called out only to have it proved that they did, in fact, say that. lol

Simple don't understand what anyone is saying.
I pulled 5 games for Tua and Burrow against playoff teams this year. And you tell me which one steps up his game against playoff teams.
    It's not even close.
Qb rating. TD. INT. PTS. Team
    TUA
    124.9 2 0 27 Bills
    114.2 2 0 17 Packers
    89.4 1 1 23 Rams
    60.01 1 3 12 Texans
    56.7 1 3 10 Bills
    89.7 7 7
    Burrow
    137 5 1 38 Ravens
    112 3 0 38 Steelers
    108.3. 4 0 34 Ravens
    103.7. 2 0 25 Chiefs
    84.7. 1 1 17 Eagles
    109.2. 15. 2. 30.4
This is why the wins and losses don't matter when you have a defence that can't stop anyone.A Qbs job is to put points on the board.Burrow is doing his part and Tua is not against real teams
And the Bengals.line sucks also just like the Phins
Tua has the stats of an average qb against playoff teams and Burrows are elite.

Why is it when Miami wins it is all because of Tua and his completion %, but when they lose it is because of everyone else on the team except him? How many starting QB's have stayed in the league having a losing record against playoff teams?
