No, the DOLPHINS didn't lose 3 of the last 4 last season. What now? Do you need to make something else up in order to push your false narrative? BTW, Allen had a 60-something against KC in the regular season last year and the Bills won. Tua had an 80- something against KC and they lost.
It is so overly simplistic to the point of ignorance to lay wins and losses on a single player, such as the quarterback in the context of this ongoing conversation. It’s nothing more than emotional nonsense. Take last season’s loss to Tennessee on Monday night? Did Tua throw a pick 6 then fumble a snap recovered by the Titans that resulted in them scoring 2 touchdowns with less than what, 4 minutes left in the game? Nope! Up 2 touchdowns with less than 4 minutes left in the game, the DEFENSE allowed the hapless Titans March down the field and score not just once, but TWICE! Yet, let’s place the blame on that loss to Tua. Yea, it was HIS fault. How about this on Thanksgiving against the Packers? Did Tua throw a pick after the defense forces and early 3 and out that allowed the Packers to go up 7-0 early in the game? Nope, that was a muffed punt that gave the Packers the ball on the 9 yard line. Did Tua fumble the ball that gave the Packers great field position to score yet another touchdown to go up 14-0 in the 1st? Nope, again that was the DEFENSE that allowed the Packers to march down the field virtually unchallenged to score again, putting the Dolphins in a deep hole already. But yet, let’s blame all of that on Tua, that loss was HIS fault. It’s ridiculously over simplistic to say Tua can’t do this and Tua can’t do that but when you look at his actual PERFORMANCE, he did exactly what you want from your quarterback. Did he have a PERFECT game? Nope, but then again what quarterback ever does? Were there thing he COULD have done better? Of course there were. But did TUA lose that game? Tua is having yet ANOTHER elite season but because he personally can’t overcome the shortcomings of the entire roster assembled by Grier, it just HAS to be Tua’s fault the Dolphins lose the games that truly matter.
The biggest indicator that Tua detractors aren’t being honest is when they allow Burrow and Herbert to play badly while putting the blame on their teams and give no such concessions for Tua. Most of them hated the pick from the get go and refuse to admit that they are wrong.
No, I don't have to subscribe to YOUR version or meaning of consistency. We have college and like 5 years of NFL. If you are continuing to argue sample size, the sample you're using to argue he's turned the corner is the smallest sample of his play you can look at.
We lost 2 games in December, going from having the division crown to playing in a Wildcard game, right? I love how you act like my position is SO crazy. You right you right, they lost 2 of the last 4, to lose the division crown. I said 3 of 4. You do not have good faith discussions.
Also, in those 2 losses, Tua barely broke 200 yards. Then we lost in the playoffs. So of the last 5 games Miami played last year, they went 2-3.
That's where you're provably wrong. There is no such thing as "my" or "your" version of consistency. Something is either logically consistent or not. If small sample size is sufficient to make a claim that Tua is not good at something, then it's also sufficient to claim he is good at something. It's fine if you want to argue you need to see more, but that's goalpost moving from what we've seen anti-Tua posters argue here, which was based on very small sample size. And the NFL is different from college. You don't mix stats due to the low correlation (the reason there are so many busts from top picked QBs in the draft). Besides, if you did include college you wouldn't argue he's not good in do-or-die games. The guy won a national championship!
Res, December last season… Dec 3; win against the redskins Dec 11; loss against the Titans Dec 17; win against the Jets Dec 24; win against the Cowboys Dec 31; loss against the Ravens 3 wins, 2 losses in December. Jan 7th, loss against Buffalo Jan 13th; loss against Chiefs in Wildcard game. 0-2 in January. Just putting it into perspective.
I wasn't a member here when Tua was drafted but I was lurking often as a guest. I wanted Herbert over Tua. I felt like Tua was damaged goods. I grew up in the 80s and couldn't help but remember Bo Jackson injuring his hip and never being the same. But the second we drafted Tua I got behind him and the pick. Anyone who still wishes we took Herbert needs to just get over it. Digging in your heels and outright rooting for your team's QB to fail just to gloat saying I told ya so is just stupid. Every Dolphin fan should be 110% behind the best QB we've had since Marino. When he's gone someday we're going to miss him.
This is so true. The Dolphins would have won at least 1 SB and possibly more since Marino retired had we not been in QB purgatory the entire period (except one year with Pennington). Wannstedt would have won a SB if he had Tua instead of Fiedler. Knowing what we know now about Drew Brees we would have probably won one with him too, even if we got him through free agency and not in the draft. This is the first time in a long time we have our solution at QB. We need to focus on the rest of the team, not haggle about QB.
Let‘s see how he plays today and against the 49ers, but I think he took another step in the right direction this season only real concern now is his concussions and it seems like he finally learned his lesson in that he plays smarter without abandoning the run totally…
He had around 240 against the Ravens. Herbert is averaging about 212 for this entire season. CJ Stroud is averaging about 237 per game this season. Allen is averaging about 233 this year. Keep cherry picking though.
yeah I agree. I'm just not getting all excited because of 2 games. Offense is trash through two series today.
Herbert/Stroud/Allen have nothing to do with the discussion, not sure why you want to bring him up and strawman. Tua threw it 37 times against Baltimore, for 237 yards and 2 ints. You're arguing with me when I said that he struggled to break 200. It's ridiculous.
No. You completely ignore context and everything else involved in a game and concentrate solely on Tua. Which causes you to be wrong about nearly every conclusion you make.
25% of his passes are BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE this season, most in the league. Maybe that has something to do with his "historic season" and why the offense still looks garbage despite his completion percentage
Are you actually implying that throwing short passes aren't easier to complete than long? Are you implying that he doesn't lead the league in throws behind the line of scrimmage? Are you implying that he hasn't thrown 25% of his passes behind the LoS? Like when you make posts liked that, it's why I can't take anything you say seriously. If Allen was throwing a quarter of his passes behind the LoS, you'd be hammering him for that. You just ignore anything that runs counter to your narrative.
Two seasons ago, Rogers was 1st with 30% of his throws behind the LOS and Mahomes was second with 29.9%. Neither were close to the all time completion % reord. They suck… lmao
Really like the guy and hope he plays well the rest of the season and develops even more, but boy, some things he is not even responsible for, make it real hard to really root for the guy. Coming from a guy who believed in him from the start if it wasn’t for the injuries and he seems to be actually more durable than I thought…
You claimed the offense was “garbage” due to his short passes. Why do you make claims and then claim you didn’t make them so much? You realize that your posts don’t just disappear, right?
Nope. 25% is not a historic pace for that. Also, there have been games that they struggled, but with Tua the O hasn't been garbage, in his 9 completed games the team averaged 24.4 points a game, good for 10th most. Add the games he missed and the average drops to 19.7 on the year and 24th spot for the team as a whole. Bottom of the league are the NY football Giants at 14.9 per game. While down compared to the last couple of years for the Dolphins, not at all garbage. The question is what is the offense without Tua doing what he has been doing, and how does it compare? After all he missed time after an avoidable injury. It wasn't pretty. 10 points a game over 5 games. I don't know why a certain part of the fan base is in such Tua denial, but his problem is injuries. All QBs have bad games. His play has been overall exceptional.
Well they had a 3 game lead over the Bills going into Titans game and managed to blow that! Feel justified?
So just watched dougliedowrong who had the game film and clearly you see it was a horrible underthrown ball from Tua.The safety had no chance to intercept if he throws it ahead of Hill.
Not true at all. I mean, I posted the still showing the DB side by side with Hill and the safety coming over the top. If Tua throws that in front of Hill the safety is going to either smoke Hill or possibly INT the ball.
Tua threw a death ball to Dubose and it was most definitely on his mind the rest of the game. Not making excuses but I doubt Tua's head was in the game after his WR was just taken off the field on a stretcher in the condition he was in. It is what it is. Someone's life might be more important than who's fault an int was.
If Tua was putting up average or worse numbers the Tua haters would say, “Tua sucks and needs to play better for this team to win.” But when Tua is putting up elite numbers he somehow still gets the blame for the losses. It’s pretty clear that some are just Tua haters and nothing more.
If we had an effective offensive line, the Dolphins could have easily run the ball and run out the clock against the Titans last season. If during crunch time, you don’t have a running game that can rush for 4 or 5 yards per carry when you’re trying to run the clock out, the problem isn’t the quarterback. It’s not having a complete team with the ability to compete at every level.
But, how did he play? What is clear after this season is the team is being held up by Tua, and if he isn't playing well, or at all, the offense isn't doing anything. There is going to be a difference between your starter and the back up, but averaging 10 points a game, vs 24.4 is way bigger of a swing than should be expected. A 14 point spread is massive. To put that in perspective, the Giants are last in points per game averaging 14.9, (still almost 50% more than the Tua less Dolphins) that big of a per game point raise would move the Giants from 32nd to 4th at 29.3. Tua hides many problems. I am much higher on his skills and ability, and lower on him taking care of himself, and overall long term prospects because of that after this season. He absolutely needs to start old Tom Brady'ing it to have a career. Crumple and take the sack to avoid hits. Even if he might be able to make something happen. Save that for 4th down in the Super Bowl. IF he doesn't, he isn't worth the $. He is the offense right now.
I'll admit Tua had a very bad game Sunday. But when you have a terrible o line, no run game, your #2 receiver on the sidelines all game with a knee injury, and your best receiver getting robbed by a rookie CB what else can we expect? This is a 1-16 team without Tua.
Great post. I said as much after he dove head first AGAIN this past game. He doesn’t seem willing to protect himself. In some circumstances, as you wrote, that’s great. It’s not great for an extra yard midway through a close game. My only gripe about Tua is this fact. And it’s the only reason (it’s a big reason IMO) why I think drafting a QB high should be considered.
And all QB’s have bad games. Jared Goff had a 58 and 61 passer rating in 2 games this season. The Lions won both. Tua had a 124 and 114 in 2 games and the Dolphins lost. The entire team matters. Some don’t think that way because they hate Tua. Plain and simple.
