He's #18 in passer rating, #23 in Y/A, #22 in NY/A. Those are the 3 most important stats to look at. He's also #15 in TD% and #24 in INT%. Mahomes this year is no more than an average QB. He's not close to the top 10 in any important metric. That the team is 11-1 despite that shows how much the rest of the team is compensating for Mahomes being only average.
I think you guys are looking at this all wrong and forgetting the MOST important person on that team. It’s not Kelce, it’s not Mahomes, it’s Andy Reid. I’m not taking anything away from the talent to Chiefs have or had and what they or did on the field. It takes a GREAT head coach to use the talent he has. Does anyone TRULY believe if Mahomes had gone to the Bears instead of Trubitsky that we would still be talking about Mahomes and the Bears? I seriously doubt it. Mahomes is having an off season statistically but the Chiefs are still winning. That’s not because of Mahomes or any other player on the team. That’s Andy Reid!
I think you can have a good head coach and a poor GM, but you can’t have good GM and a bad head coach. What I mean is you can have that good head coach but the GM is just so bad at building a team the coach looks bad because he only has so much to work with. On the flip side, if your GM who is deemed “good”, he’s not going to hire bad head coaches…again and again and again. That’s exactly what Grier has done. If you’re on your 3rd head coach and the team still isn’t winning, the team’s problem is staring at you in the mirror.
McD definitely needs to improve, but he’s still learning. Grier should know better, and refuses to learn. He doubles down on his losing methods. He needs to go.
I‘m not sure McDaniel and Flores are really bad coaches though. They‘re no Reed, Harbough or Shula, but there are not many like that out there. When you look at Man Campbell for instance, he‘s no Shula but he seems to be a good coach but he has a really good GM the way it looks like. When you talk dynasty, you need a great coach, a good GM and a great QB. To bad we don’t have anything (Tua is good for me but not great) of those things and as long as Grier is here, we probably won’t have that here ever again.
They're not meaningless games though. If we win the next few games we can be right there at the end of the season with a chance to get in.
Winning two games in the elements and a game on the road against a playoff team would not be meaningless. It's the main gripe of many people here, winning in the cold and beating winning teams.
Sure. Except I've seen nothing from this team that indicates that they can be competitive in a playoff game. I've already stated that if they make they playoffs and are competitive, then we should double down on this team. I just don't think we can be competitive.
Yall gotta stop with this meaningless wins stuff.. the draft is deep.. and i dont see anyone you should tank for this upcoming offseason.. Shedeur Sanders is likely the first qb taken and itll be the Raiders.. we arent drafting a qb with a day 1 or early day 2 pick.. so what are some of you tanking for.. travis Hunter? Lol im taking the best linemen available at the spot we end up at and be good with it.. and if we have cap space, or can clear more cap space, im again investing in a starting guard or right tackle.. For now though, keep winning.. and hope the dominos fall in place
I still think Belichick is/was a great coach despite the cheating although Brady played a huge part in their success as well as their o-line coach.
Of course he was. Just pointing out that QB and HC are similar in importance in the NFL. Peyton Manning's effect when changing teams is another great example. Most SB winners won with either a historically great QB or one that played great that season. Same can't be said for any other position.
The issue is GRIER. Winning keeps Grier around, keeping Grier around equals more of the last 20 years. So when people say meaningless wins, that's what we mean.
I don't know man...You take Mahomes off that Chiefs roster and they aren't going to be 11-1. The team is just built incredibly well all around. You have great coaching, a great defense, and of course a franchise QB. Mahomes just doesn't have to do as much and when and IF those moments do occur where he either has to carry them OR go and make due on a game winning drive...He will.
You can have a winning team and the general manager still gets fired. The Chiefs seem to be the topic of conversation, so let’s take a look at them. The 2015 Kansas City Chiefs went 11-5 on the season, won their wildcard game and lost in the divisional playoff game. The 2016 Kansas City Chiefs went 12-4 on the season but lost the divisional playoff game to the Steelers. Two consecutive winning seasons, two consecutive playoff appearances and yet John Dorsey was let go at the end of the season. Now the Hunt family is definitely a different animal than Ross, but the fact is the Dolphins don’t have to lose out for Grier to be fired. There is precedence for firing a GM with a winning record.
Dark, I was not implying that no winning team had ever moved on from the GM. Rather, that Ross will see wins as justification to keep Grier. Which I have every reason to believe is an accurate prediction.
Tua is an issue himself, when he's injured. Are you legitimately trying to have a conversation or are you just trying to play Gotcha and troll? And are you so obtuse that you think that any time I use the words "the issue is..." that the context of the conversation has no bearing? For instance, in this case we were talking about why someone would think winning wasn't good. Frankly, this is all just a complete and total rehash of the Tannehill arguments, we've just switched sides and you think Tua is elite. Plenty of people argued that wins with Tannehill were pointless because wins just kept Tannehill around, and people didn't think Tannehill could get us to there playoffs, or be successful in them. That's exactly the argument being given here, just instead of QB, it is GM. Wouldn't you prefer that we get a different GM, who actually prioritizes the oline, so that Tua could truly be the player he can be? If you had to have a few more losses this season, wouldn't that be worth it? Like, just drop all the arguing and whatever thoughts about me that you have, and just think about it. Pain now for lasting gain? Now you can argue that losing still doesn't guarantee Grier would be gone, and that's true. But the chances are way better that he's gone if we don't finish with a winning record vs if we run the table and make the playoffs. Still, though, if that happens, and we are competitive in a playoff game, then I will say I was wrong, and we should stick with everything as Grier has made it.
Were the Dolphins not competitive in a playoff game with this regime two years ago with a backup quarterback?
If you want to get on them for last year, that's fine. With the freezing cold and basically playing with a patchwork defense and offensive line, that game was 10-7 late into the first half.
Dude, I don't need a raging novella. I legit thought that you considered Tua to be the issue. I wasn't trying to troll. My apologies if it seemed that way. I didn't mean to make you angry again. FWIW, we are in agreement on Grier. I especially did not like his past off-season moves. I definitely think we need to prioritize the offensive line. Also...I never said Tua was elite. Please stick to the facts. I do think Tua is good enough to win with. Was Warren Moon elite? He was damn good during his time. Elite? That's debatable, but he was damn good. That's who I compare Tua to. I also see Drew Brees. Who coincidentally had a similar trajectory to Tua. Early struggles in his career, moved past them and became great at what he did.
