After he clears waivers I think he would be a legitimate back up or at least better than anyone we have now. Here's the article:

Daniel Jones is no longer a member of the Giants.

The Giants announced on Friday morning that they have released Jones. Jones said on Thursday that he was “still processing” being benched and dropped to No. 4 on the depth chart earlier this week and team owner John Mara said that Jones requested that the Giants let him go on Friday.

“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,” Mara said in a statement. “We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Jones was buried on the depth chart because the Giants did not want to risk an injury that would trigger a $23 million guarantee on his contract for next season. Jones said that there had been some conversations between the team and his agent about that clause in the wake of his benching, but it will be a moot point for the Giants now.

With the trade deadline behind us, all players are subject to waivers when let go by their teams. Any team claiming Jones would also claim that guarantee, so it’s a good bet that he’ll be a free agent next week.

I very much doubt that we'll bring him on this year. He doesn't know the offense and he may want more money than the team can afford. But he should absolutely be in the mix for guys that we look at in the offseason.

Sorry Finatik, Jones has always looked as lost as a b@stard on Father’s Day…as confused as a baby in a boobie bar…

    No thanks.

I have to disagree TDK. Jones hasn't been a world beater, but he's been put into some tough situations in NY. He's only 27 years old. He's a very athletic guy who seems intelligent and would definitely be worth a look. He's accurate, reads the defense well, and can move around in the pocket really well. He's also been fairly healthy up until last year when he tore his ACL. I'd absolutely love him to come in as Tua's back-up.

The biggest question will be whether some team is willing to pay him to be a bridge starter next season, or if he has to accept pure backup money. The difference between what Jimmy G or Tyrod Taylor are making this season (3m) vs Minshew or Brissett (8m).

I think Minshew would be a better pick up. His game is more like Tua’s.

I don't really think we need someone who's similar to Tua. We just need someone dependable who can drive the bus for a few games if Tua misses time again.

I don't think salary will be as important as fit if he is smart. Anything he makes this year is just going to offset Giants guaranteed salary. Unless someone makes a multi year commitment, he should prioritize team and likelihood of play.

I dont mind it as purely a backup quarterback.. hes better than anything we got behind tua.. but this toxic fan base and miami media will be calling for Daniel Jones starting as soon as Tua throws an incompletion..

I am far from a Tua fan, but hes clearly way better than Daniel Jones..

I heard the announcers this past game claim that Minshew is similar to Tua. I don’t see any similarities between them.

Tua is a one of a kind phenom. Nobody else can run the offense remotely close.

Jones will most likely clear waivers. His ridiculous contract with the Giants and his mediocre performance at best is going to preclude any team from claiming him off waivers.

Once Jones clears waivers, he’ll probably seek a team as a free agent that he feels he could have a shot at starting…Carolina, Tennessee, who knows, maybe stay in Gotham and switch to “gang green”. God only knows there are a number of teams out there that can use a quarterback.

Personally, I think Jones’ only real shot at revitalizing his career is to sign as a back up with a proven team and proven head coach. A couple of years under Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin or John Harbaugh might be quite beneficial for him. THEN sign with a team he could have a shot at the starting job.

As it stands now though, Daniel Jones is going to go down as a top 10 bust in NFL quarterbacks.

I think if he's put with the right coach and team he could be a good QB.'

I just heard Matt Ryan and Bill Cowher say that he'd be a good fit in Miami.

Jones apparently prefers a playoff contender over an immediate starter gig, at least for the remainder of this season.

I think Miami would be a good spot for him. He cold come in and sit, learn the offense, and the Dolphins are hot right now.

Especially when you put in Skyler and he fumbles on the 1 play he’s in.

Grier should have picked up the phone the second Tua had to go back in today.
