Yes, that's correct. If you finished first or tank in the league, makes no difference (outside of order), you won't get a competitive balance pick if you aren't low revenue AND in a small market. Those are the rules. Unfortunately for you, I do know what I'm talking about.

Uh oh. Here's comes the classic cbrad strawman shift instead of admitting they were wrong about Verlander. I didn't say their draft picks were irrelevant, I actually said in one of the posts how well they did with Correa, Springer, and Bregman. However, your point was that tanking led to the draft picks that acquired Verlander, and that's just terribly wrong and inaccurate.

Funny enough, what put the Astros over the top that year wasn't the prospects they had for the Verlander deal, which again they didn't need because anyone could have had him if they claimed him off waivers, but was their willingness to spend money and take on the Verlander contract. That's what matters by far the most in baseball. Payroll disparity.

Did you miss the memo that this isn’t a baseball string.

You seem to be stuck in this draft pick nirvana. Now I know Brad is going to fight me on this but here’s what I want you to do…please…if you’re going to keep beating this drum about the draft.

Go back and look at ANY TEAM in their draft picks and please tell me any team in which all of their 1st round draft picks were instant superstars that led to their team winning the Super Bowl.

It just doesn’t work out that way. Most 1st round draft picks end up being busts. Sure quite a few go on to have decent careers but winning Super Bowls? Nope, it just doesn’t happen.

Draft picks are not always guaranteed.

What is guaranteed is not doing anything means no chance at improvement.

When you add multiple draft picks you increase the chance of adding talent.

    That is just simple math

The 49ers lost to the lowly Seachickens. They suck. Purdy sucks. Shanahan sucks. Deebo sucks. McCaffery sucks… etc etc…

Their entire team is in decline. Purdy is as good as he's ever going to be. Fire sale.

It does happen occasionally. Roethlisberger is a good example. Picked 11th in the 1st round — only pick by Pittsburgh in the 1st — and immediately played at an elite level (5th in passer rating in 2004 and 3rd in 2005), changed a 6-10 team in 2003 to a 15-1 team in 2004 that went to the Conference Championships and won the SB in 2005. QB was the missing piece for the Steelers.

So it does happen even if it's rare.

He did struggle his sophomore season in the league but he did play incredibly well his freshman year in the league.

The point I was trying to make is most team’s first round pick…or even multiple 1st round picks don’t pan out as most fan bases would like.

Teams that draft that high usually don't go to Super Bowls that quickly. However, Burrow and Chase are pretty close to that.

Also, the perfect example of why it's better to lose and draft higher.

When the team loses it's Chicken Littles all day and I get that. I've been there. Negativity creeps in and we all get emotional. But it's really strange as I see so much negative energy when the team is winning and trending in the right direction with a lot of life left in the season. Some of you should come out and get on the train. Feeling bad when your team wins isn't good for your mental health. Fins up baby!

Sophmore season as in 2005? He was #3 in passer rating and #1 in Y/A. He didn't struggle at all except for knee injuries.

I agree with your overall point though, just pointing out an exception.

Are the Rams the worst team in the league? If you're a fan of another team, feel free to head to their board.

And he he cheers less for the current season? Nah...I realize what he'll say he was doing, but that's a little over the top, IMO, regardless of the 1972 season. That game was probably a win-win game for most Phin fans. Bills ensure no one has an undefeated season or the Bills lose...6 of one and 1/2 a dozen of another...it's not like this was week 18 and KC was 16-0.

Certain people here do not want the Dolphins to succeed. That's where the constant negativity comes from. They're not fans of the Dolphins.

When winning costs us a top 5 draft pick in a season where we have zero chance of meaningful football after Christmas.

you celebrate winning a meaningless battle while we continue to lose the war.

I know that feeling, but hey, one day they might surprise you and me as long as Grier is here that’s my only hope and they still have a chance to do so this season although very unlikely…
