The Dolphins were 9-8 in Flores last year. Not 9-7. Raheem Mostert is a nice little player, but he was a journeyman running back his entire career. They didn't sign Barry Sanders in his prime. They signed a 30 year old journeyman and he had a career year in McDaniel's offense.
You’re missing a vital point, well several vital points. You state when McDaniel took over, he took over a team with a winning record. Should we take a closer look at that 2021 season? Under the defensive guru of Brain Flores, the Dolphins won their first game…and then LOST SEVEN IN A ROW!!!! Surely you aren’t going to tout the “greatness” of McDaniel’s predecessor, are you? The Dolphins at 1-7, that in itself warranted his dismissal, regardless if Miami win 7 in a row and 8 of their last 9. Gee, what else happened that season? Oh yea, the very public un-endorsement of Tua and the soap opera drama that was Deshaun Watson. Here you are the HEAD COACH of a team with your 2nd year 1st round draft pick quarterback and instead of helping mold him, groom him and oh I don’t know, COACH HIM, Flores was constantly belittling him. All of this finally came light last year. So let’s put the whole Flores topic into perspective. As for “no improvement” in McDaniel’s first season as head coach, that’s utter nonsense. Most first year head coaches have abysmal seasons. Having to completely revamp the team, teach new offenses/defenses…oh sidebar; didn’t we keep Boyer as DC because it was determined defense wasn’t an issue with the team? Yes, I do recall that and I also recall the defense being so horrible Boyer was fired immediately after the season. But back to the point, McDaniel has incredible success his first season DESPITE the poor defensive showing…including making the playoffs. Now year 3 the league has figured out how to stop the offense? Have you not watched the film breakdown videos I posted? The league hasn’t “figured out” how to stop the offense, our backup quarterbacks can’t execute the offense. Thompson, Boyle and Huntley left points on the field for missing touchdown scoring plays…plays Tua executes routinely. Now for pre-snap penalties? I’ll give you that one and McDaniel needs to hold players to account, especially on pre snap penalties. Grier trades draft picks and signs players, not McDaniel. Point that finger in the right direction. At 2-4, you’re ready to throw in the towel on McDaniel when anyone with any common sense knows HE isn’t THE problem.
He hasn't been "figured out". The problem is the Broncos game last year, everyone expects 70 points, 400+ yards, 5+ TD's every game from this offense. Tua threw for 335 yards and won in Week 1 and people were acting like they got shut out. It is ironic though, the same people that are crying now that we only gave Flores three years, are the same people wanting to fire McDaniel after two and a half years. What's going to happen when McDaniel goes to another team as a head coach or offensive coordinator and has the number one offense again and the Dolphins are going 4-13 for the next two years in a rebuild?
Well how many times have I said Tua could throw 5000 yards in a single game, throw 15 touchdowns and he STILL would suck? Some folks seem to simply embrace the suck.
What makes you think he would go to another team and be a head coach or OC and have the number 1 offense? He was never a head coach or OC before joining the Dolphins, and he never had the number 1 offense.
It was only a year ago, man. Jeez. https://www.foxsports.com/articles/nfl/2023-nfl-offense-rankings-team-pass-and-rush-stats
McDaniel was the 49ers OC in 2021 and the Dolphins had the league’s number 1 scoring offense just last season.
Dolphins offense was #1 in yards and #2 in points last season. Dallas outscored the Dolphins by something like 11 points.
When you go all in and put in all the resources the Dolphins have, then a playoff win should be the minimal goal.
2 years of what 4.9 yards per carry averaging for the 2 years just under 1000 yards rushing... He broke the all time touchdown reecord for a running back... If that is NOT a #1 running back then there is no such thing as a #1 running back. Just because he did not lead the league in touchdowns or was not the F**king man before is of no consequence... He was the man here the last 2 years. As for the 9-7 typo... Please excuse me... It was still the same number of wins. And it still averages out to just over a win a season.... All of that talent all of the trades and all of the mega contracts for one more victory.... And again no growth from the young head coach in 3 years... Same dumb mistakes... He keeps getting outcoached on almost a weekly basis... Same dumb penalties... same poor clock management. etc... etc... etc...
i agree that Grier should have been fired along with Flores but let's not pretend Flores was THAT good. In year number 3 of the Flores regime, he was steam rolled, 7 losses in a row!!! Had Flores lost 7 in a row his first season, that would have been expected in his 3rd year as head coach?
That doesn’t make him a rat or piece of ****, I understand why he was fired but he’s great defensive mind and brought us back to back winning seasons after we haven’t had that in like 20 years. Meanwhile McDaniel in his third year is fielding the worst offense in the NFL, you still have stupid penalties and he still struggles with being a good game day coach. I think criticism is definitely warranted and let’s see if he can right the ship with Tua back.
When you file a lawsuit against the team that just fired you...and you resort to racism as one of the charges in your lawsuit? Sorry, I can't agree with you. THAT is a rat piece of sh!t. Sorry, that's just how I feel about it.
Like I wrote he was definitely but hurt afterwards and overreacted but that is not all on him, Grier and Ross played a huge part in it as well.
Not if he experienced it. Would you still think that if the judge agreed with him and awarded him damages, or the Dolphins settled out of court? The judge presiding over the case has already denied the NFL's attempt to force Flores' case into arbitration while requiring the two other coaches who joined his suit after filing to proceed into league mandated arbitration, and at the same time citing that the facts she has seen so far indicate a troubling persistence of racially motivated discrimination at the highest levels of the league. That would seem to paint a picture that while all three coaches' experiences were troubling and worthy of note that Flores' case was particularly egregious and worthy of proceeding into litigation. That doesn't sound like a rat crying foul with no reason to feel entitled to damages. It sounds like a case of a man who was legitimately discriminated against, and who deserves a right to have his case ruled over by outside authorities due to the ongoing racially discriminative culture within the league's ownership and committee. https://www.nfl.com/news/former-dol...discrimination-case-against-nfl-three-teams-g
Maybe it's dumb in my part, but I stopped reading after your first sentence. Brian Flores, a black man who worked for Chris Grier who...wait for it...is a black man. Yea, I'm sure Grier racially degraded Flores.
Give me a break man. He wasn't just pulling the race card on the Dolphins, he also cried about Houston. First of all if Ross was so racist then Flores wouldn't have been hired to begin with. We also have a black GM the majority of the fan base wants fired but the racist bigot Stephen Ross won't fire him. We also replaced Flores with McDaniel who is half black. And Houston hired another black HC instead of Flores so how can anyone seriously say this man was discriminated against because of his race? You can question how things were handled but the racism accusations are a joke. Please explain if you can.
I don't think anything can explain it better than the judge's ruling on the case's merit to proceed forward into litigation while forcing the two other joint filers to enter league arbitration. There is something she saw there that justified that. If all three were forced into league arbitration or all three were allowed to proceed to litigation, then one could honestly assume that either all three were filings that fell short of the legal definition of discrimination, OR that the judge is biased and overly sensitive to claims of racism. However that did not occur, and she saw something in Flores' filing that was particularly troubling. Nothing I can say personally carries more weight than the obviously fair and unbiased ruling of a sitting judge presiding over the case, and her decision regarding the progress of the three filings she examined. I mean the only bias right now to consider that might possibly invalidate the judge's opinion is that she could just be a Jets fan.
How many times are you going to just pretend you do not know? McD took over a team that had a WINNING RECORD... That added the best wideout in football and a #1 running back to the team that already had a W I N N I N G R E C O R D In San Fran it was a 2 win team that traded away all of their top talent and went all in to do a multi-year rebuild. Committing to at least a 2 year rebuild through the draft... But yeah let's compare the first 2 or 3 seasons of both coaches on their new teams.... LOL I know that the team has sucked this year... I know that has all of us in a somewhat foul mood. But come on man... You gotta let this go... LOL Remember that song on Sesame Street where they sing: "One of these things is not like the other." ??? That applies here.... The two situations are not comparable as apples to apples. If you want to find a way to defend McD or give him praise.... Find another way.
I am not black so I do not exactly know... But at the time it sure looked like Flores was being portrayed as the "Angry Black Man" after his firing from the Dolphins. A couple of teams interviewed him so they would not break rules with the leagues minority hiring policies. But we saw in the Denver Broncos case he was brought in and Elway was drunk with buddies instead of interviewing Flores and they never had any intention of offering him the job they brought him in to comply with the rules. So the way Flores left Miami did damage his reputation and then several teams yanked his chain never really intending to hire him... He has a right to be steaming mad... I am not sure if I would have sued the league and the teams... but i understand why he did what he did. His career path and his success was set back several years because of the Dolphins...
I would not call you dumb, but possibly disinterested in reading another's valid opinion. See my reply to Tuanon4llife's response if you want to see my basis for accepting that Flores might have a legitimate claim.
I'm not familiar with who the judge is but if she was a liberal judge then I can guarantee she sides with Flores regardless of anything else.
You obviously have access to more facts, claims, and legal precedence than the judge with jurisdiction over the case does. My bad. From now on I'm adding you to my speed dial for whenever I am making legal decisions.
One thing I found very interesting is that when it came time to do the investigation... The league found that Flores told the truth. He said that Ross offered money to multiple people for losses while he was coach... Multiple people verified that Flores was telling the truth. The league chose not to take action against the Dolphins saying that they believed Ross when he said he was not serious when he said that. (Despite Flores properly going up the chain of command to file a complaint at the time and then upper management met with Ross to put a stop to him saying this to people.) So like Flores or Hate him.... He is not a liar. Ross, Grier and all of the Dolphins organisation .... Well... They did not tell the truth initially about the actions of Ross. And I get it... It is pretty hard to come clean and spill the beans when Ross owns the damned team... But Flores told the truth even though he got Black listed for it... No team would hire him because he told the truth... and he had to rely on a friend offering him a lowly assistant defensive back coach position on the Steelers. And then work his way back to being a co-ordinator. He went from being a successful head coach on the worst run team in the league... to an assistant defensive backs coach... That does not translate.... Flores got hosed.
Please read what I actually posted... Like the example of the Broncos calling him in for an interview... And guy giving the interview blows it off to get drunk with his buddies... and it gets revealed that they only brought him in for an interview to comply with league minority hiring policies. That is not me saying that any team that does not hire him is racist. It is not even in the same hemisphere...
Sure and you must know Elway personally. How else would you know he never intended to hire Flores and only interviewed him to check a box.
Better call saul? Fagggett about it. Tuanon 4 you 1-800-call-tua. Okay last joke.... I recently saw Saul for the first time last month and it is still fresh on my mind... (O: Maybe the best Television show I have ever seen... I never thought anything would beat Mad Men...
Lots of head coaches get fired and never get a second chance or even an assistant position. Philbin, Cam Cameron, and many others didn't get another HC offer. Flores is the rule not the exception.
Way to gloss over everything I said, and try to take this thread into a political debate. Good job. As I stated there were two other plaintiffs who added their claims to Flores initial filing, and in both cases she required them to enter league mandated arbitration, but saw enough proof of possible racial discrimination in Flores' case in particular to justify his case be allowed to enter litigation. That does not sound at all like a judge who allows any claim of racism to proceed out of political bias in any way, shape, or form. That sounds like the action of a fair and unbiased judge viewing each individual plaintiff's filing on their merits. As I said quite plainly IF she had forced all three into arbitration, then it could be argued that Flores' case and both the other plaintiff's cases all three fell short of the legal definition of discrimination. AND IF she allowed all three to progress into litigation, then it could be argued she was overly sensitive to claims of racial discrimination. NEITHER of those situations occurred, and that indicates a fair and unbiased judge who examined each plaintiff's filing on their individual merits, and determined that Flores'.case in particular was worthy on its merits to proceed to a jury trial. Leave the political hate out of it, and look at the actual circumstances surrounding the three filings and you will either see that there is merit to Flores' claims, or show me that you are unable to separate facts from your own political ideology. Either way I don't really care. It's your life, cloud the lens you view it through if you wish to or don't. It's all the same to me.
The ability to find sh!t that’s not there in order to make the Dolphins look bad is astounding. Trolls gonna troll….
Actually the Elway story was that Flores had to wait hours for Elway to show up... and when he did he was red eyed and drunk/ hungover... The response from the Broncos was that Elway had a long flight the day before and because of "Extreme Jet Lag" that was why he had red eyes and was not "Himself." It was in all of the papers and the story drug out for some time... There should be a plethora of articles about this via google.
Okay but... You just kind of cherry picked here. How many head coaches that get fired take a job after that is lower than a coordinator? I am guessing it is a very, very low percentage... Flores was already a top coordinator before he went to be a head coach... and suddenly the best he could do was an assistant defensive backs coach? That does not compute.
Dude, you're confusing me with somebody else. Whether or not it is intentional or an accident I cannot say, but don't put words in my mouth. I know how to speak for myself. Now you can either acknowledge what I infact said and the legitimacy of the points I made, or continue to deflect based on political bias. Again I do not really care as it speaks to your debate tactics and personal sociatal beliefs, and not the validity of my statements.
I was the one that brought up the Elway interview... So no biggie he just responded to the wrong person.
I already knew that, but posted that believing whenever he has the time to he will be considerate enough to delete the post where he inaccurately attributed your statement to me. Not a big deal, just stating facts and keeping shizzle straight. Peace.
