I thought the same thing during preseason..I was baffled at them not working him into rotation in the first couple games. If he stays healthy, then I believe that dude is gonna break some club records, and possibly league records. I see some early Barry Sanders in his play.
I haven't seen anyone that reminded me of Barry until Ashton Jeanty at Boise State this year. He is so shifty it's hard to hit him strait on and he can change direction almost 90 degrees as he is being tackled and run out of the tackle, and be heading upfield an instant later like Barry could. Haven't seen anyone else do that. Best RB in College Football Ashton Jeanty Early Season Highlights (youtube.com) Those highlights don't include his 186 yards (3TDs) on 13 carries from last weekend.
Fwiw, I'm not saying he's the second coming of one of the greatest backs to ever play the game. What I see is that he's got shifty hips, makes quick decisive cuts, follows his blockers with patience, when they give him an opening he has a huge speed burst once he sees the hole, and for his size is incredibly good at shedding tackles. Those aspects all remind me of watching Sanders play. I'm definitely going to check out that Boise RB. What year is he in?
He could end up being the steal of the draft, especially if they can ever get some consistent line play.
Holland has been piss poor this season. Maye came in and played pretty good in his absence on Sunday. Maye and Elijah Campbell looked way more competent than Holland and Poyer have. I wonder if Budda Baker becomes available they make an inquiry.
Holland showed such promise; not sure what happened with him; Poyer clearly is not the player he once was.
To be fair, with the poor offense we have at the moment, EVERY FG is critical. No room for misses now.
