A sad day for the Dolphins football family as we say goodbye to one of the all time greats of the game. I was lucky enough to see him play, and was born the year he and Csonka provided the ground and pound combo for one of the greatest teams to ever play the game.

Goodbye and thank you Mr. Morris for your part in inspiring my life long love for the game.

RIP Mercury Morris! He made me laugh so hard when NE lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. "It just goes to show anybody can beat anybody any given Sunday... except in 1972" - Mercury Morris

In the run-up to the 72 SB there was a pre-game segment that featured the contrasting running styles of Mercury and Csonka. The highlights of Mercury's running style was set to bluegrass banjo music and Csonk's bruising runs were set to hard rock guitar solos and, they kept switching back and forth. It was classic. Mercury had a unique running style, he could stop and run in place until the would-be tackler committed and then Merc would go the other way. He was fun to watch.

He was indeed a legend! During his 7 year career in Miami, he averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

    Rest in peace

R.I.P. Champ. We had one of the greatest backfields in history with Morris, Csonka, and Kiick and Morris was the one who was the most exciting. Paul Warfield was my first favorite NFL player as a boy and I'd imagine that Morris or Griese would have held that respect if not for Warfield. I'm praying that his family will hold tightly to the joy from his life and not crumble under the grief of his passing.

Beautifully said. It was that team led by Coach Shula who gave the Dolphins organization an aura of class and discipline that lasted for decades.

That was the hardest thing to watch during the post Shula years, seeing that reputation slowly eroded as the years went by with mediocre coaching and poor front office performance in building quality teams from the bottom up. Under Ross' ownership and Grier's management that erosion has went into overdrive like a Gulf Storm sucking the ground and foundation out from under a high rise resort.

You can truly say they don't build em like that anymore, and Mercury Morris was one of the cornerstones of the best team to ever take the field in any era.
