Are you arguing with me? I'm not disagreeing with you. I think seen strength matters a great deal. That doesn't mean a weak arm can't be good at dei balls though...he's just needs a better set of circumstances to complete his than the strong armed guy does.

Tl;dr I agree with you, a strong armed accurate QB is better than a weak armed accurate QB

Yeah... The difference in timing with the velocity over the distances that you are talking about isn't what you seem to think it is. Average NFL throws are 54 MPH, Strong high velocity throws are about 64 MPH. So on a 100 yard throw a strong velocity throw would be about .5 seconds quicker. But, that is the most extreme example, that no one can throw. The differences in velocities for throwing deep is less, and the distance that the ball travels is less. Strong arms are better for mid range outs and off platform (feet not set) throws. Timing and accuracy matter more.

Per PFF the top 5 Deep throwers in 2023 Via EPA in order were Purdy, Stroud, Tua, Stafford, and Dak.

Per NFL next gen stats the 5 best deep ball passers in 2022 were Geno, Tua, Hurts, Dak, Cousins.

Pick your deep stat passing stat and look up who was the best at it over the last few years. It's not a bunch of strong armed guys.

Tua's accuracy quite frankly sucks on passes that travel over 40 yards in the air. Look at our first two games. He routinely misses the target on deep down the field passes. His entire college career his one pass over 50 yards that was caught was an interception.

Sorry, I misunderstood your intent. For one I am not saying a canon arm equals greater accuracy, but that all other things being equal the stronger armed QB will have better deep ball accuracy.

I imagine Skylar Thompson gets the start again on Monday against the Titans? I'm ready to see Tyler Huntley as soon as possible. He's an upgrade over Thompson all day. They need to let Huntley play in week 5. The thing I really like about him is that he moves well in the pocket and can throw a bit on the run. He throws a high ball that's hard to intercept, but he does make his receivers work to catch the ball. Huntley is accurate, but he's not Tua accurate. I'm interested to see what the deep ball looks like. He hasn't thrown too many of them in the league. I look for him to throw more to Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Waddle. Beckham could get involved too because he's played with Huntley in the past. I think we'll see a lot more Waddle though. Similar to his usage during his rookie season. That's all assuming that Huntley will eventually get to start. In fact, if I was a betting man, I'd say he'll be playing no later than week 6.

He never said that. Look through his posts. His claim is that ONLY strong armed QB’s can be good at deep passing. He’s wrong.

In an earlier post you claimed that you can’t have good deep ball accuracy without a powerful arm.

When you disappeared last time was after it was shown that Tua’s deep ball was elite after you claimed he wasn’t. Now you’re back trying to push this same BS. Why not actually look at the stats before you make such incorrect statements?

Per Sports Illustrated in 2023 Tua had a total of 11 completions of 40+ yards, most of which came as the benefit of yards after catch.

His average yards per completion was 7.65 which was 17th in the league.

His average yards in the air per attempt was 7.7 which tied for 15th in the league.

We have fast receivers who can get behind the defense in a hurry, but our team does not take advantage of that regularly because Tua does not have the arm strength and accuracy on really deep throws to capitalize on those opportunities.

Look at what happened on the few passes he tried to really air it out on this year. I'm talking 30-40+ yards in the air. He missed the receiver on almost all of them, either over throwing or under throwing, one of which led to an INT.

Flacco is better than every QB this team has had since Marino, and a strong argument could be made he is better than Dan was. He is and always has been far beyond Tua's ceiling.

And before I feel the wrath of the Hater Parade think about this. In Joe's first 5 yrs in the league he tallied 9 playoff wins and hoisted a Lombardy Trophy over his head. Joe is an elite QB. Just for $h*ts and giggles do you know Patrick Mahomes the newly appointed GOAT's post season record for his first 5 yrs in the league? 8 playoff wins and 1 Lombardy Trophy in his hands. Over his career Joe has made it past the wild card and into the divisional round many more times than not, and has made it to the Conference Championship game 3 times. If Tua ever did half that at least half of ya'll would be calling him the Hawaiian Jesus.

    Way t
Way to go, cherry picking an article. Your first statement is flat out wrong, attributing Tua’s 40+ yard passes to YAC.

Here’s the link. I’ll post it since you didn’t.
    https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/new...the advanced stats category,did in 2022 (4.9).

And way to skewer the narrative as well. In 2022, Tua had 12 passes of 40+ air yards in 2022 compared to 11 in 2023. Your narrative is suggesting that 1 less pass of that depth is a significant drop off between 2022 and 2023.

What a stupid way to determine QB elite-ness… Playoff wins.
And anyone that believes Flacco was/is even half the QB of what Dan was has brain damage.
If this post doesn’t prove you’re trolling I guess nothing will. What a joke.

Flacco was not better than Marino. Flacco had that success largely due to that incredibly dominant stacked defense.

Flacco was a middling QB with a couple of very good seasons. He was nowhere near an “elite” QB.

Those 12 passes were not 40+ yards in the air. They were 40+ yards including yards after the catch. Why does everyone want to rewrite the history of this man including college. He is a good quarterback, but not the perfect quarterback that can do all the things an elite QB can. Tua has had one consistent short coming since college, and that is his lack of a big arm for deep throws downfield. It isn't going to magically appear out of nowhere once he starts playing for us. He has good mechanics, great accuracy on short to mid range routes, great timing, reads defenses well, has learned to go through his progressions well when our offensive line holds up well enough for him to do so, but he still lacks the same thing he did coming out of college. It was what every scout said about him, but you guys somehow know better than all of the leagues main talent evaluators and try to change history by attributing yards gained by his receivers to his arm.

I'm not hating on the guy, just being real. Give it a try some time.

Flacco Is so accurate on long passes that they.did a segment on Stan Lee's show "Super Humans" about the dude when he was in college. I wanted us to draft him so bad after that, but obviously our front office thought they had better options.

Even if you somehow convinced yourself that Flacco was elite once he certainly isn't now. They certainly would be a lot more watchable but the Dolphins would still go nowhere.

I actually liked Flacco. He’s definitely better, even now, than any QB that we have healthy. Claiming he’s a better QB than Tua, much less Marino, is possibly one of the dumbest things I’ve read on this forum.

    You’re still lying.

In 2023, Tua wasn’t 15th in Air yards. He was 2nd in air yards per attempt, and 1st in total air yards. You ignored all of this before and vanished for months when presented with the facts. Now you’re back once again pushing these lies.

He was also 3rd on 40+ yard passes and 1st in 50+yard passes.

Per PFF: “Tagovailoa leads the position in deep throw EPA (0.941) over the past two seasons.

Tagovailoa threw for 11 touchdowns and 33 first downs on deep attempts, both top-five figures, and ranked sixth in big-time throw rate (38.2%).

He knows they are wrong. Months ago he was claiming these exact same things and was shown he was incorrect. He then ignored that post, vanished for months, and now he’s back trying it once again. The dude thinks Flacco was better than Marino for crying out loud. There’s just no way he’s not trolling.

You can’t be serious. No one who has ever watched more than three minutes of football in their lives would compare Joe Flacco favorably to Dan Marino. Forget about this forum, that’s gotta be one of the dumbest things posted anywhere.

Number one it's a good thing to not go around telling a grown man what to do, but it's OK, I know you only do it because you don't have to look another grown man in the eyes when you do so here. That says all I need to know about you.

Second, Dan Marino is my favorite QB ever, and I am not saying Joe is better. However Joe's stats are pretty damn good, and his playoff record eclipses Dan's by a hell of a wide margin. When it comes to measurables in pro-football QB's everyone can quote this stat or that stat for declaring rankings, but in the end there is one set of stats that stands above all others. That set of stats is how many times did he take his team to the playoffs, how many playoff games did he win, and how many Lombardy trophies did he hold over his head.

If you call that dumb, then I'm gonna have to surmise that your argument is based soley in ignorance.

Done with this one. Can someone find me a real sparring partner?

Not only that, for a good while he had one of the best power run games in the league thanks to a total beast named Jamal Lewis.

Our GM could learn a thing or two about building a perennial playoff contender by looking at film.of the early Ravens teams.

Why are so many around here obsessed with using the word dumb? As an adhominin deragotory statement t does nothing to bolster an argument, and only makes the user seem less intelligent and resourceful in debating over a topic.
