Called this signing in the Tannehill thread.
Would rather start him then Skylar, but I don’t expect that will be in the cards.

Been a long time since the Dolphins had a QB with this much athleticism….

He may not start this week, but I can definitely see him playing after that if Tua doesn't go.

Not in the cards now but if Tua doesn't come back I can't picture Skylar playing 15 more games

It's all going to depend on how quickly he picks up on the offense and if can make plays downfield.

Sheesh, thats the best option we had? Gotta say, thats pretty discouraging.. guessing teams are not letting go of their backup depth

I think this could be interesting. I think Skylar will still get a game or two though.

I'm okay with Skylar starting as long as the offense changes to suit his abilities. Not a fan of Huntley but again, if he starts, offense will need adjustments.

We shall see on Sunday. Haven't seen him play since the playoffs in Buffalo where drops doomed the Dolphins

Tannehill has made the decision that he’s not signing with a team to just be a back-up.

It's a good signing in my opinion. He can play. I would expect him to eventually start over Thompson if he struggles.

I think we can see him as early as halftime on Sunday.

In other news, Tua is not going to be put on IR for now.

Hopefully that isn't the case because it would either mean that Thompson got smashed or he threw a ton of picks. The backup QB position has been suspect at best. I know some on here (Resnor was one of them) suggested that we start Thompson over Tua after his preseason performance against third string defenses his rookie season, but I personally have my questions about him. I hope he comes out and throws all over Seattle though. We just have to hold it down until Tua comes back (if he decides to). If Thompson can do that, it'll be amazing. Huntley...Is definitely a nice second option in the likely possibility of disaster. He can move and use his legs and he can make some nice throws. Thompson will get his shot, but Huntley is going to be on his ***. He did some nice things with Baltimore a couple years ago.

There's probably ~20 starter quality QBs. The best we can hope for is a game manager who is capable of letting our playmakers make plays. Behind our leaky OL, McDaniel needs to employ some RPO and not rely on Huntley's or Skylar's arm as much as their ability to quickly process the play and go to the guy with the best chance to pick up yards. Coach has a chance to earn his contract by adapting his offense from relying on timing in the downfield passing game to creating one-on-one opportunities in space.

Tua's timing and quick decisions are his strongest attributes. If McDaniel designed an offense around Tua's arm, he might be able to retool it to cater to Thompson and/or Huntley's particular strengths. It just sucks that Hill and Waddle were perfect for Tua and will probably be much closer to ordinary with somebody else.

I wonder if we kicked the tires on Trey Lance. McDaniel was in San Francisco when he was drafted with the third pick and has to have an opinion on whether his skills match our version of Shanahan's WCO.

I believe I said that after he came in to a game after Tua left injured, and I was actually pretty pleased with how he had played, especially considering that he hadn't played with the First Team.

He's shown since that he's not a great option. But feel to bring up more things that are no longer relevant.

Not putting him on IR yet points there too but I don't read anything into signing Huntley because it was always Tannehill or raid a practice squad no matter happens with Tua.

No, you said this after preseason during his rookie year. You suggested that he start over Tua which was beyond hysterical! Oh, and not once has Skylar Thompson ever subbed in for an injured Tua to light up the scoreboard, or even play remotely well enough for anyone with half a brain to suggest that he should be starting over Tua. The only reason for suggesting such lunacy would be simply, and nothing more than blind hatred for Tua.

Either way, I certainly hope Skylar Thompson can hold it down and win us some ball games while Tua decides what he wants to do. After all...Winning is really all that matters. I just want to see us do well on a yearly basis. I have no agenda other than that. I know you personally very concerned for Tua's long term health and that you feel it would be in his best interest to retire abruptly, but we'll just have to wait and see. It really is awesome to see fans care about the players as much as you do.

He actually did better than Tua in the playoffs and against the Bills.
He could have beaten them had Mcdaniels not completely f’’d up with the clock.

Time management is certainly not one of his strengths and that was shown again in this last game:

That will be the interesting part. Can coach do it? Is the OL going to be able to do something different then what it was built for?

no way no how. Most of here talk about the need for accuracy and quick decision making to run this offense, Tannehill has neither of those.

OK let's see where we after the next four games. We have Skylar Thompson and two practice squad QBs until Tua ever makes it back.

I would assume based on what we have heard about what Tannehill is looking for that he would probably not have signed if he was only guaranteed a few starts.

If I was Tannehill I would take the bet that Tua is done. I doubt Miami called him unless someone here can provide info that Grier reached out to him.

We're already looking at starting second and their string guys on the left side. If run blocking is their strength, I hope to see a few more runs going that way. Hopefully Jones and Armstead are ready to go.

There have been reports that GB reached out to Tannehill after Love got hurt. Evidently he declined that offer. I don't think the Dolphins have reached out to him, it hasn't been reported to my knowledge, but I doubt he'd be interested for the same reasons mentioned here. Anything is possible, especially since Tua could have a set back or end up retiring, but I don't think he'd be good for this offense.

Gotta be honest, watching Bryce Young do a couple of jump passes and still have his footballs deflected, makes me think he just isnt big enough for this league. There needs to be a height measurement sign outside the NFL draft like they do on roller coaster rides, unless youre a punter or kicker, if youre not taller than this sign you cant go in.

It's a fact that short QBs don't do as well at the NFL level. Of the recent SB winners Aaron Rodgers was about the shortest at 6'2". Mahomes is 6'3", Brady is 6'4". Both the Manning boys were 6'4". Nick Foles was 6'5". Stafford is 6'3".

Height, 5’10” and above, from the studies I’ve seen, doesn’t really affect QB play. There may be some limitations due to height, both short and tall, but overall their successes are about equal to that of taller QB’s.
