Call me superstitious, but I don’t trust an FSU quarterback. Winston is the only one that has a claim to “success” if you even want to call it that.
Actually, Brad Johnson has better career numbers than Winston does, though he had far less of a natural skill set, didn't actually play much at FSU, and didn't really play in the NFL until he was 28 years old. After that, yeah yikes. Christian Ponder and Danny Kanell are your next two up.
For a guy who had a great season, set his team up to be conference champs and had he stayed healthy, would have had his team in the CFP (neither of which Maye or Daniels did), I have not heard his name mentioned much at all. Is his injury status such that he will not be ready for the start of the season?
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · Follow Florida St QB and draft prospect Jordan Travis, whose season ended with an ankle injury, was told by doctors during a recent checkup that he should be fully cleared by April, according to his agent @djackson_legacy. In time for spring work. The kid has a lot of work to do to build his body up, he’s not big and strong and the injury looked to me robbed him from progressing in that area But we’re talking about a hi upside developmental project. So I would take him and Shelve him for two years in my strength dept
I don’t necessarily take into account the school, as long as it’s a D1 school with a good football program, which FSU undoubtedly is and has, so I won’t judge Travis by using the play of any former FSU QB’s. I doubt he amounts to much more than a back-up in the NFL. Which is fine. The league needs good (and cheap) back-ups. So if the Dolphins had a large amount of late round picks I’d be OK using one on him (6th or 7th). They don’t have that luxury though. However, I can see Travis going I drafted so maybe he’s there after the draft?
I would like them to take a shot on QB Joe Milton. Have him work with McDaniels for awhile to see if he could develop him.
Yeah sure he could go undrafted but if we’re looking for the next Brock Purdy or just someone who has upside we might wanna drop a late rounder.
I’ve looked at that kid. All I keep saying out loud is “ late late late” Usually the next level it’s gonna be more late for a while
Late round QBs just feel like a wasted pick. It's just a wasteland, and the chances of getting a Brock Purdy are ridiculous. I keep hearing "the Brock Purdy effect" like it's an actual thing that teams are going to make their strategy. No, they are not. Niners got lucky in many different ways with Purdy. If there is a guy you think might be able to outcompete Thompson as a UDFA that's fine. Frankly I'm starting to wonder if having a random Joe vs. established "backup" is better over a short term anyway. But I'd rather not flush my draft picks down the drain. At least take a guy who could become a special teamer or something.
