Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has never played a road playoff game, but he’s played plenty at home, and if the Chiefs beat the Dolphins on Saturday night, Mahomes will join some truly elite company in NFL history.

A Chiefs win at Arrowhead Stadium would be the 10th home playoff win of Mahomes’ career. Only Tom Brady, who won 21 home playoff games, has more home playoff wins among all quarterbacks in NFL history. Two other quarterbacks, Joe Montana and Peyton Manning, won exactly 10 home playoff games.

Mahomes is currently in a three-way tie with John Elway and Brett Favre with nine home playoff wins.

The only postseason games Mahomes has played outside Kansas City are his three Super Bowl appearances on neutral fields. The Chiefs have won two of those three.

If the Chiefs win on Saturday and the Bills beat the Steelers on Sunday, Mahomes will play at Buffalo next, going on the road in the divisional round for the first time in his career. If the Steelers upset the Bills, Mahomes can get another home playoff game in the divisional round and try to go for home playoff win No. 11.

ME - lets spoil that record.

I'd be wearing whatever gloves the Chiefs are wearing.

Anyone watch Ryder McConville videos on YouTube? There's one today I'm going through about the Dolphins O vs KC D.
Early on he's showing how the KC linebackers are bailing out, backs turned after play action. We must take advantage of that with Achane especially by creating plays for this. Easy throws and easy yards.
He also talked about the use of pitch plays for Achane and Mostert going North/South rather than trying to run him outside. Avoid big negative plays Mike, use these guys wisely.

    Back to the video...

The Chiefs will have their left tackle back for Saturday’s game against the Dolphins and may have one of their receivers back, too.

Donovan Smith is off the injury report and is set to start at left tackle this weekend. Smith has been sidelined for the last five games after suffering a stinger.

Smith’s return is timely as backup left tackle Wanya Morris is out for this weekend with a concussion. He did not practice all week.

Kadarus Toney (hip/ankle) and Justyn Ross (hamstring) are both questionable. Toney has not played since the win over New England on Dec. 17. Even if Toney is available, head coach Andy Reid said at his Friday press conference that Toney would have a limited role in the wild card round.

Toney has struggled plenty throughout the season, catching 27 passes for 169 yards with one touchdown in 13 games. He’s also rushed 11 times for 31 yards.

Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (calf), running back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder), receiver Rashee Rice (hamstring), linebacker Nick Bolton (wrist), safety Deon Bush (elbow), defensive back Chamarri Conner (shoulder), tight end Noah Gray (elbow), offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee), receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (oblique), and cornerback Jaylen Watson (calf) are all off the injury report and set to play.

this is why I’ve been harping on Tua cutting a defense when they turn their backs to them in coverage

    Can you post the vid?

This is a winnable game…if the Dolphins can ignore the arctic conditions.

Offensively, Miami has to establish the run. I hate saying it because every time I do, we seem to end up losing but truth, good or bad it’s gotta be told.

Against the Bills, we were running the ball and running it well. Achane and Wilson both were averaging more than 5 yards per carry. The offense was perfectly balanced in the first half, 16 passes and 16 runs. We led against the Bills 14-7 going into the half. For whatever reason though, we completely abandoned the run in the 2nd half, rushing the ball only 3 times. We went 3 and out on 4 consecutive drives if memory serves correctly. That’s not going to cut it. The best way to keep the Chiefs from scoring is keeping their offense on the sidelines. We need long sustained drives that end in touchdowns. With the defense decimated, that has to be the game plan. It just has to.

Defensively as I stated, we are decimated. We have so many key injuries that we’re filling round holes with square pegs. Hopefully Houston will be able to effectively fill the role of pass rusher to help the rest of the line get to and contain Mahomes in the pocket…and cause said pocket to collapse around him. The defense has been pretty good at stopping the run so I’m not TOO concerned there but it’s ultimately going to come down to putting Kansas City in 3rd long and containing him.

Field goals are not going to be any gimmes. With the temperature being sub zero, it’s going to be like kicking a rock.

I see this being an old fashioned slug fest. I WANT to say Miami wins 17-13…but we’ll see.

    Fins Up!!

We'll see if Mostert plays and how healthy Achane is. We can't seem to field a healthy backfield and OL to run the offense properly

The forecast for Saturday night in Kansas City started bad, and it has gotten worse. The kickoff temperature and the potential wind chill keeps dropping and dropping for Dolphins-Chiefs. Currently, the high for Saturday (per Weather.com) is 8 degrees, with a low of -9. The kickoff at temperature, according to the iPhone weather app, is below zero. The wind chill will be in the neighborhood of 25 below.

It will be one of the coldest games in league history. As noted by Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, it will be the coldest game ever for the Dolphins.

Multiple Dolphins players have vowed to go sleeveless for the game. “Well, it’s a mindset,” Hill said, via Schad. “I feel like if you believe it’s going to be cold, then you’re going to freeze your *** off. But if you go into this game not even thinking any of that, you’ll be fine.”

He’s right, but there’s a point where it’s so cold that mind over matter doesn’t matter. And it could be so cold that it’s dangerously cold — for players, coaches, fans, anyone.

Which raises a fair question, given that the NFL is so concerned about health and safety. Are there weather conditions where it’s unsafe? Is there a temperature or a wind chill that is regarded as unacceptable for anyone to be out in the elements?

We’ve asked the league if there is a minimum temperature below which a game won’t be played. There should be. And, frankly, if there’s ever a game played that results in multiple cases of severe frostbite for fans, players, anyone, there will be.

Our OL coach in college wouldn’t let us wear sleeves when it was cold. Still has some base immunity to the cold. Having said that, not wearing sleeves when it’s 30 below is just stupid

Weird. Just watched this and was about to post it.
It’s crazy. Yeah, he talks about and shows a lot of examples of Tua’s predetermined/spot throwing. Kind of worrisome, huh?

It's funny, because weren't people using Warner's comments last year to try to prove that we are wrong about Tua?

Funny how he says it isn't about scheme but it is. The offense is about seeing what the defense does ACCORDING to the alignments. He read the play and the throw was open but he over threw it by inches. And then later he says just settle in and make the throw. As he turns around and he sees the rusher all ready on him he has 1/2 step to throw it. But isn't the one read what we've been saying? Yes cherry pick a couple of plays to make your narrative stick WHEN IT DOESN'T work and disregard when he looks off or goes through progression when it does work. I'm SO FN sick of you people that just keep HARPING ON THE SAME BULL#*@%. Give it a Fn rest.

And now back to the game...

We played poorly last time vs the Chiefs. Back to back poorly played games is unlikely. Tua needs to play better but we also need to get the Chiefs playing the run to open those passing lanes.

I'm assuming Mostert, Waddle and Achane will all be ready to go? With a healthy enough backfield I think we will win by rushing for at least 120 and hopefully more like 180.

Funny because yesterday I was thinking that is Tua wears gloves, the best gloves that are tight and gripping and if he wears long sleeves, he could be ok.

You sick of us people? Is Kurt Warner part of "us people"? I've been saying since last season Tua is a one read quarterback who throws to spots and makes his mind up pre-snap where he is going with the ball. Now Kurt Warner says the same thing.

You blame the system, wrong, the other reads and throws are there, Tua is just not progressing through them because he gets fixated on his first read and only wants to win with timing and throwing to spots.

You blame the offense even though the other reads and throws are there, you blame the oline even though he is one of the least pressured and hit quarterbacks and most of the throws he is forcing are throws where he has no pressure, you blame recievers for not running perfect routes even though it's not their fualt they are double and tripple covered and Tua forces the throw in anyway. Blame everyone but Tua.

I don’t think he’s played as well as he did during the beginning of the season. I’m not a Tua lover or a Tua hater. But If the read is right the read is right. If he starts holding the ball longer he could take more sacks. Then a different narrative comes out. Can he get /do better -for sure.

Weird how the players and coaches voted him to be the starting all pro. 1st time a Miami QB has got that in 20 years. Lead the league in passing yards. 3rd in yards per game. 6 in touchdowns. If I put that tag line at the beginning of any year and asked a rationale fan if they want that guy before the season 99% say yes.

He isn’t superhuman and some robot. And defiantly not perfect by any stretch.

Here’s a question. Don’t pay him and then do what?

Right. No one argues the stats. They are arguing who is more responsible for the stats.

I'd take lower stats for a better team. Great stats are a consolation prize.

I think this year was better than last year and last year was better than the year before. In both QB play and Coaching. It’s a huge disappointment not to win the division and we’ll see about a playoff game.

Even if they don’t win today, for me seeing what they have put out as the product, I’m encouraged. I haven’t seen this much innovation, excellent QB play, O Line play and the development of a running game in the last 20 years.

Ultimately they need to win because all that “improvement” doesn’t count in a production league.

Here’s hoping on a great result tonight. I’m not sure I can take the chit show that will ensue if they don’t.

Players were playing in frozen conditions, battling the snow, rain, wind, and other elements since football became a sport. It's what makes the game fun at times. It would truly be the lamest excuse ever to cancel a football game. "Oh it's too cold today to play."

    Call me soft or whatever…..

But I think it’s funny people will lament for days/weeks/years about the Ref missing one single holding call. And complain about how the integrity of the game was ruined by the officials.

However, no one minds when the most important game of the year rolls around and teams are expected to basically play on the glacier shield of the Antarctic. Temperature will be so cold frostbite could occur in 20 minutes.

Both these teams played in fairly normal conditions all season. There is no way to actually prepare and practice for this. The entire integrity of the game is impacted.

I understand it’s football. And it’s been like that for years. It’s still wild though…

Will be watching from NC! Been a fan for many, many years now. Never an easy game for anyone who has to go to KC but I think we can do it as long as we keep our heads on straight and come out with an attitude.
