Hear me out. I'm all about players having fun, and I'm not opposed to players celebrating when they score; but to choreograph the celebrations before the game is even played? I know it's nothing new, but Hard Knocks has really pulled the curtain back. When I watched the Redskins game that roller coaster celebration was just too stupid, and clearly rehearsed. Then when we saw the idea hatched and PRACTICED on Hard Knocks it invoked douche chills. Fast forward to last night - wheel barrow racing. Stupid. Cringe. Douche Chills. Clearly rehearsed. Then whatever the hell the defense did after the fumble. Forget about whether I as a fan think the celebrations are lame and cringey. Let's focus on what they mean to the team. After the defense did their nonsensical choreographed celebration they 100% stopped playing. It's almost like the celebrations were done so the players reacted as if the game was over too but the Titans weren't done playing, and I'm sure those celebrations gave them plenty of motivation to keep playing hard. Nobody will convince me the pre-mature choreographed celebrations weren't part of the loss last night. This is a defense that held the Titans to 13 points through 3 3/4 quarters of football only to give up 15 in less than 3 minutes. The defense stopped playing and so did the offense. The players are spending too much time practicing celebrations versus practicing football. And then they get to do the celebrations in the game, and that seems to give them the Pavlov's dog indication that the game is over and won. I didn't like seeing it in a game they won, and I despised seeing it in a game they lost. I hope we've seen the last of it! /rant over.
I don’t mind them doing it when it’s the 4th TD of the game and they are up by 21 points but last night was uncalled for. They were stinking up the joint on offence and as soon as they got into the end zone they couldn’t wait to bust out their new celebration in a tight 1 score game. Totally uncalled for and a ridiculous look.
Other teams see this stuff too. All it does is give our opponents added bulletin board material. It was funny earlier in the season but it's becoming a turnoff for me personally. I agree it should stop but unfortunately nobody is going to control them and it will continue until defenses keep us out of the end zone.
I think it's kind of a fun midseason thing, but after a garbage loss like that, against the elite teams we are going to start hitting, rolling into December playoff mode ball ... put a lid on it. Celebrate, team hugs, stuff like that is fine. But dial it back and be more spontaneous. And that needs to come from McDaniel. He's a young, hip, "fun" dude but he will need to learn when to put on the angry teacher face and get things done. A test, to be sure.
If we see a choreographed celebration in the Jets game, win or lose, I think it will be a very damning statement about this team and how seriously they took the Monday night loss. I doubt, or at least hope we won't see it this week. And hopefully that's because they learned from last week and not because the Jets keep them out of the end zone the entire game.
Agree about the celebrations, wonder if they will say no more BS time to roll up cuffs and get to work.
As I said, I won't mind it if it's Mostert strolling in to make it 42-10 in the 4th, have at it then. But if it's Mostert punching it in on 3rd and 1 in the 4th to go ahead 14-10 they better not do it then.
Here's the thing- I think confidence was so high going into that game that none of us thought they could lose. What I want to see is a clear rebound this week, people getting blown off the line of scrimmage and the defense lighting people up. They got cocky and it cost us a game- no big deal as long as they immediately right the ship. This happened last year as well, mostly because Tua and key line/WR players were out, and the fan base is going to go ballistic if we don't destroy the Jets this week. Drop 50 on the Jets and dance all you want- I'll dance too! But that offense better be rolling.
I disagree. The team should strive to be what the team has been at their best, and that's having fun. They can have fun and keep focus, they didn't on Monday, they have before. Learn from it and move on.
I agree. If you watch Hard Knocks, they literally spend 2 minutes thinking of a celebration right after practice. And, don't lie that you weren't pumped up when they finally broke through and took what seemed like an insurmountable 7 point and then a 14 point lead. Just imagine how they felt after busting their *** for 55 minutes.
Maybe it’s just me as I get older but here’s how I look at it… Act like you’ve been there before! Every time Barry Sanders rushed for a touchdown, his celebration? Handed to ball to the referee and trotted back to the sideline. Im not saying not to have any fun or get excited or anything of the sort but to me your conduct should be so confident that after scoring your demeanor oozes “yea, just another touchdown”.
if i were opposing team watching them celebrate would piss me off. Would certainly motivate me even more to beat them.
