MIAMI -- Dolphins running back De'Von Achane will play Sunday against the Washington Commanders, coach Mike McDaniel said Friday, giving the team its second-leading rusher.

Achane missed the Dolphins' win over the New York Jets in Week 12 after aggravating his knee injury the previous week in his initial return against the Las Vegas Raiders. The rookie had spent five weeks on injured reserve after originally suffering the knee injury in Week 5.

The third-round pick has rushed for 461 yards and has seven total touchdowns in five games this season, averaging an NFL-high 11.8 yards per carry. His return should give the Dolphins a potent tandem with Raheem Mostert, whose 785 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns rank second and first in the NFL, respectively.

McDaniel wasn't as definitive about the status of safety Jevon Holland, who has been limited throughout the week with injuries to both knees. The third-year star was at practice Friday and didn't appear to have any brace or sleeve on either knee, but McDaniel said the team would err on the side of caution.

Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill’s pursuit of 2,000 receiving yards is set to continue on Sunday. While Hill missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle issue, he’s off the injury report and set to play in Week 13. Hill was limited in practice on both Thursday and Friday. He enters the weekend leading the league in yards (1,324) and touchdowns (10) on 88 receptions.

As head coach Mike McDaniel mentioned earlier on Friday, running back De’Von Achane (knee) is also off the injury report and is expected to play. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday.

But offensive tackle Terron Armstead (knee/quad), running back Chris Brooks (knee), offensive lineman Lester Cotton (illness), safety Jevon Holland (knees), offensive lineman Robert Jones (knee), and offensive tackle Kendall Lamm (back) are all questionable. Holland and Lamm were each able to practice on a limited basis after they didn’t participate on Wednesday or Thursday.

Notably, running back Raheem Mostert (ankle/knee) and linebacker Bradley Chubb (knee) are two of the other several players off the injury report after being listed as limited during the week.

I’ve changed my stance on this, if the rookie is healthy let him have his reps back and allow Mostert some time to heal and get ready for playoffs

I agree 100%. It's becoming more obvious that Mostert will need to be healthy in January for Miami to have any success in the playoffs. He's really turned it up this season and become a key piece to the offense.

Looks like Coach agreed with you by giving Achane the bulk of the carries. He essentially gave Mostert half a game off to let him get a bit healthier.

I love how McDaniel has handled injuries and player snaps this season.

It does seem McDaniel is protecting players from themselves.
