Two biggest areas of concern. We shank a punt once a week. And saunders is unreliable. Load up behind 30 and pound the rock.
Special teams hasn’t been good since that coach got released and went to the Pats I think. I can’t remember his name.
I agree with everything except Sanders. Sanders is the Dolphins most accurate kicker in Dolphins history. Yes, he needs to get better from 50+, he’s currently sitting at around 57% in his career for FG’s from 50-59 yards. That percentage is due in large part to his 33% for that range both the previous two seasons and so far this year. Over the last two and half seasons he’s 5 for 15 at 50-59. However, before that he was sitting at 80% when he went 12 for 15 at 50-59. Point being, he’s pretty much automatic from 49 and less, and he’s shown he can be great from 50-59. He just needs to fix whatever has happened and do it soon.
Nothing to really clean up. Run out of one of your normal offensive sets, not complicated. Oddly at times we will bunch up telling the other team we are running. How about a play action out of that? Coach making this way more complicated then it should be.
Exactly. There's no reason the league's top passing offense and top 3 running offense should be anywhere near the bottom when it comes to getting a first on 3rd or 4th with 1-2 yards to go. It's 99% play calling and 1% execution. That 1% typically being poor blocking.
He needs to get it fixed before it ends up costing us this season and him his career. No one wants a kicker who is 33% from 50+ over multiple seasons. Also no chance he is seeing the $4.5M he is due next year but we only save $2.38M by cutting him. I thought it was a good contract at the time as he was one of the best kickers in the league but it looks terrible now.
I remember thinking Sanders was the team MVP and he was the only thing going right. And now he's our biggest liability.
I thought we’d use Jeff Wilson in the short yardage situations (when he was hurt) when we were failing early on. Boy, was I wrong.
