I'm sure in the very long history of football someone lined the running back in the quaterback position before....i doubt highly it was invented at arkansas.....sorry
Well the wild hog did start at Arkansas, lol, but it is the same as the wildcat offense which I don't think was invented at Arkansas.

Yes, it came from Harrison HS, in Harrison, AR. It was brought to the Hogs by Lee's predecessor at OC for the Razorbacks. Sorry, wrong info: It was brought to the Hogs by Gus Malzahn, now the OC at Uof Tulsa, when he was the Hogs OC. He came to the Razorbacks after being the OC at Springdale(AR) HS for a few years. He was the predecessor of Lee at U of Arkansas.
It's an old offense. Tom Jackson was talking about people running it against UofL when he went their and Lee Corso talking about how to defend against it back in the day. Arkansas, or the HS coach they got to be their OC didnt invent it. They just used it.

but in the 50's version they used one back. this offense uses two backs and can be snapped to either one.
i didn't say invented, i said "started". Lee brought it out of moth balls, inserted another back and called it the "wild hog" instead of "wildcat"
maybe the NAME- "wild hog" but not the formation itself.... comon man....thats like saying the dolphins started the 2 back system....because we are dolphin fans....this game has been around a long time, it is foolish to think that this was started in arkansas not that long ago.... and my highschool coach started the wing-T offense....

your statement is not one of opinion....you are claiming that this formation/style of offense was STARTED at arkansas.....i say that in this long history of football i find it hard to believe that this formation was STARTED at arkansas a few years ago...... dont take it personal dood

I think I understand what dolfan06 is saying. The original single-wing offense that Pop Warner came up with did not feature the extra back. With the addition of the back, the scheme/formation is its own. For example, Don Coryell's offense was originally the WCO. Paul Brown then add his own stuff to it and then it eventually ended up with Bill Walsh. Walsh added his stuff which was then known as the WCO while Coryell's offense is known as "Air Coryell." Basically, he's saying that Arkansas started the "Wildhog" offense while Pop Warner invented the single-wing.
I don't understand why it is so important to fight about this. Arkansas figured out a way to make an obsolete play relevant again. They brought it back into use, what is so hard about giving them the credit? The Miami Dolphins Staff does, why can't we?

A lot more teams are starting to use the wild hog. UCLA used it today and that's not something you see out of Norm Chow's playbook (this time they used a WR). So teams are picking it up with defenses getting caught off guard.
