When the Dolphins took the field at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday for their final AFC East clash against the Patriots this season, the Miami wideout built a stronger case for his goal of becoming the first player in league history to surpass 2,000 receiving yards.

During the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Hill eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in only eight games this season, becoming the first player in the Super Bowl era to accomplish the feat. Currently, Hill has seven receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown while averaging 14.6 yards per catch as the Dolphins lead the Patriots, 24-10, in the fourth quarter.

As Hill continues his pursuit of 2,000 receiving yards, the All-Pro wide receiver has also garnered attention in the league’s MVP conversation. Last week, NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, one of the greatest wide receivers in league history, said the 29-year-old could potentially win this year’s MVP award.

“I think he has a great chance (to be named MVP) because speed kills, man,” Rice said on an episode of NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” “What’s happening is you cannot play him one-on-one, you cannot play him bump-and-run and you cannot play him man-to-man. He’s making plays over the middle. He’s catching deep balls. He’s doing everything. I think he has a great chance of being the Most Valuable Player.”

If Hill continues his outstanding play on the field, it is likely that he could reach his 2,000-yard milestone and capture one of the league’s highest honors this season.

On one hand, it’s pretty cool to have a player and team putting up historic numbers. But if we don’t win some playoff games, stats don’t matter.

What is up with you people. We have a talent like no other we’ve seen in decades and you can’t marvel in the excellence of play.

Well, these stats are increasing the probability of making the playoffs and winning playoff games, so until we actually play some playoff games, the stats do matter.

As far as MVP, there's never been a WR that's won the MVP in the NFL in 70 years, so breaking 2000 yards might not do it either (fair or not). MVP lately is almost always QBs. Last non-QB MVP was Adrian Peterson in 2012, but never a WR.

The problem for Hill to win MVP is that Tua is on track to throw for 4830 yards and 36 TD’s with a 108 passer rating. I don’t see how Tua doesn’t win it if he keeps that up.

Tyreek will get offensive player of the year. How that doesn't translate to MVP is mind boggling especially considering his team is tied for the best record in football. And it's largely because of him. If he was on a bottom tier 2-6 team putting up meaningless stats then discount him as MVP. But if he gets to 2000, Miami wins in the playoffs and he doesn't win MVP then it's safe to say WRs are ineligible.

I swear that there are some "fans" who don't really even enjoy watching football. They only care about the final score and listing who wins championships.

I had someone tell me a while ago that they felt the exact same way about an 11-5 team as a 5-11 team if they didn't win in the playoffs. They're just jaded and bitter.
