The Dolphins' offense is playing at a completely different level than the rest of the NFL. Through six games this season, the Dolphins have totaled 2,992 yards on 374 plays, an average of exactly 8.00 yards per play. No other team in the NFL is even close. In second place in the yards per play ranking are the Bills and 49ers, both averaging 5.98 yards per play. The gap of over two yards per play between first place and second place is bigger than the difference between second place and last place (the Giants at 4.05 yards per play). The Dolphins are first in the NFL in both yards per pass (9.2) and yards per run (6.5). They're more than a full yard ahead of the second-place team in both categories. The Dolphins have 15 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing touchdowns, both first in the NFL. They're first in the NFL in first downs with 147. Miami has 223 points this season; no other team is even at 185. By just about any measure, their offense is the best in the league. And no one else is close.
And yet, we still get the hot takes: Stephen A: “To me, I’m not giving credit to Tua for throwing a 3 yard slant to Tyreek and he takes it to the house.” You'd think that somebody with 40 years in the game would at least study facts before he said something stupid. But Stephen A., Skip, Cowherd, Nick Wright, and half a dozen others just like to spout off as loud as they can. Screw 'em.
With the exception of when they take quarters off... (see Panthers game) Or when we play the Bills. The statement is true..... The Dolphins offence is a complete step above every other one in the NFL
Alot of these plot charts are a bit confusing to me. I am a bit of a simpleton but even with them being a bit confusing, when I see teh Dolphins (however they're plotted) on an island all by themselves, that's pretty telling in itself. There's the Dolphins...and then there's the rest of the league way over "there"
In most of them, top right is the best position that you can be. Hence, the name Top Right Tua. That Achane chart is probably the craziest one that I've seen. Here's another:
Top left should not be possible. That would be a case where the receiver on average gains 0 yards per route run but has a high EPA = higher probability of the team scoring points given the new down/distance/game situation, which on average is the same down/distance/game situation as before because you on average gained 0 yards! That would be paranormal NFL, not the real thing lol.
It’s theoretically possible if you have a TE or FB who does nothing but catch 1 yard TD passes or 2 yard 4th down conversions. But in practical terms it should be impossible.
And Steve Young And Joe Montana. edit to add In other words every QB whose game is based on timing, accuracy and anticipation instead of freakish arm talent or video game character running.
