It's pretty simple. Ezukanma and Cracraft aren't going to be back anytime soon. Chosen can't block or do much of anything else.

I think Claypool jumps into that Ezukanma/Deebo role, gives them a big target in the red zone and can block very well.

Low risk, high reward in my opinion.

Didn’t really give up much, so can’t blame him if he returns to any former shell of his self. Would love to see a trade for an ILB or OL.

Seems to be a LOT of red flags about attitude? Getting dumped by a second team might wake him up though, as this could be his last chance to continue his career in the NFL. I'd expect Hill to be able to keep him in line OR Claypool is gone quickly.

I'm assuming it was a 6th or 7th rounder given up in the trade?

Also, a big physical WR with some speed is never a bad thing to have. A low-risk-high-reward move.

Dont like the trade.. we have other needs at our offensive line and linebacker .. waste of resources on a position we are so deep in..

He certainly didn't do any blocking in Chicago but maybe this wakes him up and he starts putting in effort.

I saw Dolphins give a 6th and get a 7th and Claypool back. So, even less. Dude has the body and maybe Welker and the WR room that the Dolphins have will get his mind right.

2025 6th for 7th is essentially nothing. Worse case is its a waste of a roster spot.

Not THAT deep at the moment though. I agree that getting a decent backup Center would be nice. So odd how they want to ignore the OL and run with what we have on hand.

Not really. Berrios is currently the #3 wide receiver and Chosen and Wilson are just not good.

Honestly, I like this move. But like any other move grier has made there's a strong element of risk to it. Claypool's attitude is a major problem. So you have to hope that it's just from being in the dumpster fire that is Chicago. That QB, that staff, everything about that team currently is a mess. Not surprising that he wanted out, and hell since he criticized the coaches (and rightfully so) he's been benched. We haven't really given up anything valuable but late round picks. Hard to be upset there.

Here's the thing though... Hill and Waddle are obviously smaller. Chosen has some height and speed, but he's not exactly physical in any way. Claypool has height, and speed, and can be physical. We don't have a big body WR on the roster that can go up and get a ball, especially in the redzone. I think he's a nice addition here so we don't just have to rely on speed all the time, especially in the redzone where speed is a bit negated with the tight spaces. Claypool can go up and get it like a TE that we lack on the roster. I don't think we should expect him to set the world on fire here, but if he gets his crap together and gets over himself and comes into work and play as part of a team heading in the right direction this could be a great move for the offense.

This should signal the end of the Wilson experiment. Maybe we can use Wilson and Chosen as some trade bait to help the OL in some way. Neither of those guys are going to fetch you a big return though.

To me though, this has the potential to be really great for us. It also has the potential to blow up in our face though. So, it's a a typical move for this team.

After seeing some of his blocking online, he's actually worse than Chosen believe it or not. I've never seen such a big guy put so little effort into blocking. If he blocks like that here he will be off the team by November.

I like the move, we didn't give up much, and Claypool has high upside. I wanted us to target him in the draft when he came out.

We do need to get a true cente on the roster though. That should be priority #1.

If we're playing Something Nothing or Everything, this is something that has the potential to be everything. If Claypool buys in, our WR3 will be a fringe WR1 for some teams in the league. He also gives us a different WR archetype that can change the dynamics of an already dynamic scheme.

I like the swing at an opportunity and see more positive upside than negative but don't expect it to work. It feels too much like Mike Wallace 2.0 for me to really appreciate. I'd say we are looking at 20% something, 75% nothing, and 5% everything.

Hope the 5% hits, just like I hope I win the Powerball tonight.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool is on his way to Miami and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spent time at his Friday press conference discussing why the team made a trade with the Bears to acquire him.

McDaniel called it an “exciting opportunity” to acquire a player who “wants to take things into his own hands” and that the Dolphins weren’t actively looking for help at wide receiver when the chance to acquire Claypool came up.

“You have to stay steadfast to the commitment of making your team as good as it could be,” McDaniel said. “Sometimes things come across your radar that you weren’t even looking for, but, when you assess it, if it falls under the category this has a chance to make us better then you jump on that.”

McDaniel was asked about chatter from Claypool’s previous stops that his work effort was lacking and he said he prefers to use his eyes rather than his ears when it comes to evaluating things like that on a player. He said that the team was “crystal clear” with Claypool about their expectations for him and added a part of his skill set that he believes will make him a good fit for the high-velocity Dolphins

“You guys want me to say it, don’t you? He’s fast,” McDaniel said.

Claypool won’t be with the Dolphins for this weekend’s game against the Giants, but should start working on finding a role on their offense next week.

Actually, it was a pick swap. Like somebody giving you a $10 gift card in exchange for you to pay $100 for repairs of a clunker that you get to keep.

From what I read, the Bears were going to move on from him regardless over contract disputes (it's a contract year for him) and just a bad attitude towards the team. He was a healthy scratch the past two weeks and going into this week, they told him not to come to practice. So there's definitely some concern there and I would guess he's being brought in as a one-year rental.

On the plus side, this kid actually has talent and can contribute immediately. Chicago was a winless team and you don't get noticed in a dysfunctional offense, so that could have played a dynamic (similar to Minkah going to Pitt). He's also young and should be an immediate upgrade to our backups. He could realistically be a starter in the slot this season.

I like this trade but I am also realistic- a bad attitude rarely changes and this is his 3rd team. Unless he puts up Pro-Bowl numbers, we will not be paying him and that's perfectly okay to have him just for this season. On his side, he has Tua throwing with pin-point accuracy on a team that's definitely getting noticed, so it's his best shot at getting paid somewhere next year. It's a win-win regardless if his attitude changes or not.

so if he comes in and is a troublemaker you could really mess this teams chemistry up. However he may make the mental turn and become an all pro for a 6th rounder so it's a risk. I wish however we could get a help on the Oline since Armstead is out for the season now.

A 6th for a Bears 7th? Including comp picks and what not, there's a good chance that we haven't moved too far away from where we'd have drafted anyway.

    Good athlete.
But a truly awful football player.

Really not on board with this one. He could cost us a game anytime he steps on the field.

I’ll never forget the last minute of that Steelers game and they were down by a score. Claypool catches a first down, jumps up and spikes the ball and starts celebrating. Problem is it was a running clock and Steelers had no timeout. You see a lot of dumb stuff on a football field but that one is ingrained on my memory.

Low risk high reward, good trade from Grier. Claypool seems to like Tua maybe he‘ll turn it around here although that’s pretty unlikely…

A sixth round pick would have been best spent on Gregory than this headcase who likely wont be in the NFL very soon if he dont get his act right

Sixth round picks don't make the team. We can barely keep guys on our practice squad as it is. Claypool has a chance to straighten up. If he blows it, he gets cut before he ever sees the field. There's not much of a downside.

To me, this was a no brainer.

Clearly his time with the Bears was a disaster, but in fairness, the Bears have been a disaster as well. I will readily admit, there are concerns about his work ethic.

That being said, for what the compensation was, we have no real obligation to keep him. If we cut him in three weeks, I wouldn't be bothered at all : not all gambles pay off.

Reasons for optimism - Multiple teams offered a second round pick for the guy a year ago, so clearly the talent is there. This is a great buy-low move. Also, it is nice to add a size guy to the roster. Moreover, this is a nice depth piece in case we suffer a significant WR injury.

I think players really like McDaniel, and I really think we might see a significant change in attitude from Claypool. Why? This is so clearly a rental. If Claypool balls out, I really think he could get a lucrative contract elsewhere. He has to know that if he cannot thrive in this offense, other teams will notice, and his NFL future could be in real jeopardy. There really are no excuses for him, and if he plays his cards right, this could be a major win for him and the Dolphins.

Realistic expectations - Honestly, if he can carve a role as a situational, red zone target, I will be happy. I think that he could fit the Mike Gesicki role that we are currently lacking.

We got Claypool and a 7th for that 6th, it’s cost next to nothing.

Why would we even be interested in Gregory? We have enough players who can’t get pressure without adding another.
