I'm more worried that the NFL has passed by the Fangio system. Most teams that are still trying to run it have shocking defences now. Teams will happily beat you up short and running if all you want to do is sit back at stop big plays. Also, he needs to adjust the system to the players he has now. No point him keep saying "we don't have the players". He has to work with what he has and he has to make adjustments before he totally derails the whole season. We aren't asking for a top 5 defence here, anything in the 10-15 range would likely make the Dolphins a contender.
If I remember correctly wasn't 2006 the year the Colts got Bob Sanders back just in time for the playoffs and the defence suddenly played lights out throughout them? Let's hope history repeats with the Dolphins getting Ramsey back...
we have a defense that has been together for a couple year, one would think that would help them jell fast, but they are looking terrible so far.
The average increase in ranking for points allowed the first year is 9.25. However, in the 2nd year it decreases by 5, then increases by 3.5 the 3rd year, then decreases by 7.5 the 4th year. In other words, on average — however this includes all stints with 6 teams from 1995 to 2022 — Fangio gets the most the first year then plateaus. The counter to that is that the last 3 stints the defense averaged top 5 in year 3. In other words, earlier in Fangio's career year 3 was bad, while lately he's been able to get defenses to elite or near elite status by year 3.
No, he's saying that on average, when Vic takes over a defense, they get better by more than 9 spots from the year before. Yes, they tend to also get better the longer he's there, but if he can get this defense to around average (last year they were ranked 24th so 9 spots would have them at 15th) that could mean we go from a one and done in the playoffs to a win or two in the postseason.
I don't think Tyreek will retire that quickly as long as we keep winning. He looks like he's having fun, and he's going to realize that spending a few more years earning tons of money doing something he likes is not something you should just throw away, especially since he has all the time post-retirement to have a 2nd and 3rd career doing whatever else he wants.
Well it’s safe to say, with how many of our defensive starters that have returned, our players are going to have that learning curve. They’ve all played together 2-3 years in a certain defensive scheme and muscle memory can be a challenge to break. I just don’t want Fangio to keep saying he doesn’t have the players he needs. You’re getting paid $4-$5 million a year. Adjust to what you have.
We still have the best offense in the league and every team will try to do exactly what Buffalo just did against us. Expect a run-first offense for the next few weeks to set up the pass, because you better believe that McDaniel is already getting ahead of what he knows we'll face. I don't think average teams have much hope against us because they can't blitz and expect their corners to cover Tyreek and Waddle in space...that's the whole madness of playing us. You have to get after Tua, but Tua's going to pick you apart when you do. So you play a prevent defense and he picks you apart some more. Or you try to jam the field and Miami runs the ball up the middle for a 50 yard gain. McDaniel is just that good at staying one step ahead and Buffalo only beat us because they were clearly more talented and more prepared. That won't be true for the average .500 team though and I expect we'll continue to destroy those types of opponents. Remember, we opened against the Bills, Broncos, Chargers, and Pats...that's three playoff teams and one joke. Those do not represent our typical opponent for all 17 weeks.
Rest of season prediction: Giants - win Panthers - win @ Eagles - loss Patriots - close win @Chiefs - loss Raiders - Win @Jets - loss @Commanders - win Titans - loss Jets - win Cowboys - loss Ravens - loss Bills - loss That leaves us at 9-8, best case we sweep the Jets and also beat the Ravens, 11-6 The season ends on a tough schedule and we never finish strong.
How are you getting 9-8 out of that? We're 3-1 and you have 5 wins and 8 losses there, so you're actually predicting we end with a losing record: 8-9. No way we end with a losing record!
Did you see what they just did to Burrow and the begnals holding them to 3 points? They play physical, and we have problems with physical teams. That plus Tannehil always comes here with a chip on his shoulder.
I think we sweep the Jets, beat the Titans, win one against either the Cowboys or Ravens, and then I think we finish strong with beating the Bills. That's how I got to my 13-4 prediction. I do think that we'll play the Eagles and Chiefs closer than many would expect as well, so there's a potential win there to open up a later loss. I agree with you though, we have a history of closing the season terribly. It could be L, L, L in the last three games and if that's the case, we better dominate over the next three months.
Burrow isn't playing like Burrow. He's hurt and not hiding it too well. I wouldn't judge the Titans by that game.
True, Titans get a lot of pressure on the QB, and Burrow not being able to move very well right now had an effect. But Tua is not much more mobile than Burrow either so it's a wash. Titans had trouble with Watson because he is very mobile and athletic, he basically supermaned his way out 3 or 4 sacks in that game. Tua won't be able to get away from the pressure like that.
Hitman has them losing a lot of home games when Miami has won 13 out of its last 15, soon to be 15 out of 17, home games.
Wow, one loss against a division rival on the road and suddenly we suck to the highest level of sucktivity. Gee, let me jump on the bandwagon… Tua’s going to throw 5 interceptions every game for the rest of the season. The defense is going to give up 127 points per game for the rest of the season. Mike McDaniel is going to be fired 7:30 into the 1st quarter next week against the Giants. Steven Ross is going to reveal that Skeletor is his identical twin brother. Hows that for jumping on the doom and gloom bandwagon?
Think you are too pessimistic, just can't see that many losses. Jets and Titans don't have enough offence to beat the Dolphins, we will score at least 20+ on them and their offences won't be able to keep up. I'll be shocked if this team loses 3 of their last 4 home games as well. I'm still thinking 11-6 at worse, 13-4 at best barring injuries.
Jets just went toe to toe with the Chiefs, and Titans completely embarrased the bengals. We could definitely lose to them
So what does that tell you? Are the Titans an actual powerhouse this season or did the Bengals have a bad game? Are the Jets an actual powerhouse or did the Chiefs have a bad game? Anybody can beat anybody on any given Sunday. The Chiefs more than likely took the Jets way too lightly and had a wake up call. Same thing with the Bengals. Just like we had with the Bills.
Haven't seen tackling that bad in awhile. Just guys out of position and then failing to fly to the ball and hitting/wrapping up. Turribul And this pass rush...yikes. Fangio needs to start getting creative because they aren't winning at the line
Burrow should have sat week one. Better to take one L and get him closer to 100% than be where they are now. Yeah, he’s tough, and even hurt he’s better than most, but sometimes you have to look long term. The Bengals are in big trouble right now. PS The Bengals are further proof that building a solid OL isn’t easy - they went with the “big name” overhaul and that hasn’t worked out too well for them
I’m not sure he’s better than most while hurt, isn’t he statistically one of the worst QB’s in the league this season?
Thanks to a perpetually crappy OL, he’s been banged up every year he’s been in the league. This year his leg injury is really affecting his ability to get any velocity on his throws, which is why I said he should have sat out the beginning of the season.
Not saying it's you, but why does Burow deserve the "excuses" of poor O-line and injuries regarding his play, but if Tua gets hurt he should retire and if the O-line is poor he's not good enough to overcome it? Burrows has a calf injury. Not serious. He's just not as good as some would have us believe. lol...I just can't with you anymore. Trouble with physical teams? The Pats are physical, we beat them this year. The Chargers are physical, we beat them. We lost against the Bills. Last season the Dolphins beat the Ravens, Steelers, Pats x2, Bills x1, and Jets x2. That's 7 wins against really physical teams. First you can't even add the number of games per season correctly, twice you made addition errors, then you claim that because Burrow is hurt, he and Tua or "equal" and make excuses for Burrow. lmao...And now you're just making stuff up about playing poorly against "physical teams" when recent history proves that you're wrong. You're just not good at this. Go back to your Jets forum, troll.
All the games you mentioned us beating physical teams were close games we easily could have lost, and the Jets demolished us in game 1 last year, then we squeeked out a win in game two. The Bills demolished us this year, and we barely won the Pats game because their offense sucks. Name one game against a physical team where we won convincingly, even when playing less talented physical teams like Pittsburgh and the Jets last year we barely won, or lost convincingly. No one is making excuses for Burrow, it's obvious he is playing through injury and is not very mobile, if Tua had a similar injury it would be undetstandable if his play diminished. Your arguments are childish and petty, grow up.
