Crossing my fingers McDaniel nailed the Butch Berry hire. If you strip away the noise and look at his Denver results, there's reason for optimism. Too long since Miami’s last promising unit.
It's going to be between the Dolphins, Jets and Pats. Pats fans are pissed the missed on Hopkins, so Belichick might have to bite the bullet and overpay. Jets are being hyped as a Super Bowl team and aren't 100% healthy at running back. Dolphins are still hoping on the home town discount.
Dalton Risner is the only “name” out there, and just like JC Tretter last year, there has to be a reason why no team is offering him a contract. With JC, it was his health, but I haven’t heard anything about Risner being injured, just wanting big bucks.
But Faulk and his abilities were part of the Rams’ offensive scheme…much like his and James were a significant part of the Colts scheme in Indy.
I know that Pats have been bantered around but they just don't seem like a team that fits Cooks criteria as a contender plus BB has never spent big on RBs.
For sure. Just pointing out, there are times when a running back IS a massive part of a high powered passing attack, even if it's not typical. If you've got a back with speed AND great hands, that's a dynamic versatile player.
People up there aren't happy with Belichick for not getting Hopkins. They are starting to lose patience with him even saying he's on the hot seat. And, Cook's criteria is money. If it wasn't, he would have signed with the Dolphins already.
Oh don’t get me wrong Res, I wasn’t trying to argue. Just amplifying the offensive scheme point when you mentioned Faulk. I think it’s really a crying shame that so many teams have put all their eggs in the passing game with the running game being an after thought. I know with his library of stats would argue with me, but I’m still a firm true believer that a team with an effective balanced offense is not only better but a more dangerous offense.
And lately its not just all of the eggs in the passing game, but being wildly reckless about it the same time. Its like being told that you now have better odds than ever of surviving jumping off of the roof of a tall building, so you decide to jump instead of taking the elevator, even though the elevator still works just fine. Now, now, now, all or nothing gambling. Its not what I want football to be.
Everything gets reduced to the lowest common denominator. Sports are now no longer about technique or fundamentals. It's about scoring. Everything is done to increase points scored. Obviously I'm speaking from the owner's/league perspectives, not from the individual players.
I wonder if the Bills will kick the tires now.... Monday morning brought word that Bills running back Nyheim Hines is expected to miss the 2023 season with a knee injury that he sustained while away from the team and more details have come to light about how he suffered the injury. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Hines was injured when he was hit by someone riding a Jet Ski. Hines was sitting on his own stationary Jet Ski at the time of the crash and suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. Hines joined the Bills in a trade with the Colts last season and appeared in nine games for the AFC East club. The most memorable game of that run came in Week 18 when he returned two kickoffs, including the one opening the game, for touchdowns in a win over the Patriots. Hines entered the league as a 2018 fourth-round pick and will be trying to work his way back into action for the 2024 season.
If he goes anywhere in the division it will be bad for us, but especially Buffalo, as their lack of a run game (outside of Allen) has been a weakness.
Doubly so, given that their offense was often too eager to go big play and abandon the run and shorter pass game last season, and it came back to bite them again and again. They went 13-3, but could have been even more dominant had they just toned down how aggressive and gung ho they were.
Cook's brother is RB on the team. Word is Delvin would not want to compete against his brother. The RB that was hurt was mostly special teams, not like a starting RB for them.
Seeing rumors that Dalvin Cook is saying he was never offered a contract by us. It's not crazy to think that the addition of Achane in the draft effectively closed the door on signing him. Tobin weighs in below:
Sorry for cribbing your point. I've been scanning these pages in a haze since minicamp. That's all about to change.
No worries, just meant ive been saying all along I would be surprised if they had a real interest in him.
I can seriously believe he would improve our roster. With that being said, I think our committee is strong enough to win as long as Coach uses it correctly.
I've said this before, but the idea that Mostert and Wilson will be healthy and play 17 games is just all hopes and prayers right now. Its more likely both will miss a lot of time. And I don't have any hopes for the rookie. If we don't sigh Cook, I really worry it'll be a notable difference in the potential quality of the offense and our win total.
From NFL.com's article about the most intriguing training camp battles in the league: Raheem Mostert vs. Jeff Wilson vs. De'Von Achane vs. Salvon Ahmed. vs. Myles Gaskin Mostert and Wilson were retained for 2023 after putting together a solid end-of-season run for a Dolphins backfield that got off to a wobbly start in 2022. Mostert generated 1,093 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns last season. Wilson added 392 rushing yards, averaging 4.7 yards per tote in eight games following his arrival via trade from San Francisco. The two figure to share snaps to open the season. Where the real intrigue comes is with Achane, a third-round pick this year. The speedy back should have the chance to carve out a significant role in Mike McDaniel's offense with a solid camp and preseason. All three could wind up splitting reps early in the campaign. Then there's the possibility Miami could add to the group. The Dalvin Cook rumors continue to swirl. An addition of a workhorse like Cook could turn this competition upside down. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-training-camp-ten-most-intriguing-position-battles-to-track-in-2023
The rookie is going to be a legit stud for us. Cook has missed games too. If we did not have the RB's we have now I would be in favor of Cook, but just don't feel a need for him currently.
Watched Mostert interview last night, he is jacked up for season and ready to go. Said start of last season mentally he was still thinking about his injury, but is now ready mentally and started feeling it at end of last season. Seems like a genuine good dude too.
Hopefully the OL comes together, or we’re gonna need Achane to be the second coming of Barry Sanders.
I like Mostert. Glad to have him on the team. But I have no faith that he can stay healthy, and now he's 31. Guys who struggle with injuries their whole career and then have their best season at 30 don't usually have an upward arc after that point. There are almost zero historical comparrisons for that, and guys are fading earlier than they used to now due to the lack of PEDs. Most of the guys who finally turned it on and had a few good years in their late 20s were done by the time they were the age Mostert is now.
Cook is meeting with the Jets this weekend. With Rodgers taking a pay cut, I don't see them letting Cook leave.
Except for the fact that he has not been abused all the previous years of his career with massive carries. I don't think there is any plan to make him the bell cow of the RB room. He with rookie and Wilson will carry the load.
Man this sucks rodgers took a massive pay cut to allow the jests to bring cook in this weekend for a talk. No way they allow him to walk without a contract offer. Miami low balls him an offer and now if he signs with jests he will have a chip on his shoulder when we play them for sure since he wanted to come to Miami. With their defense, rodgers, and cook they honestly will be a fat more potent team to deal with. If anything goes wrong we we could be looking at 3-4 place in our division.
He didn't take a paycut. They just used accountant magic to kick the can. He is going to count $35 million on the cap in 2026, whether he is on the team or not.
No worries. Cook will wish he signed with Miami for less. If he's picking his destination over money then let him go. We don't need him. Miami will win the division and the Jets might get the wild card over Buffalo.
I hear and understand your frustration. Being a Dolphins fan is harder than Chinese algebra, but I’m so tired…years after years of hearing about other teams; who they have, etc… This season I’m completely off that train. This season, I don’t give a dam what other team has. This year, I’m all about… We have one of the greatest, creative offensive minds in Mike McDaniel… We have one of the best quarterbacks in Tua Tagovailoa We have the fastest and most dynamic WR corps in the league We have the fastest RB corps in the league We have without a doubt the greatest current defensive minded coaches in Vic Fangio, who has produced a top 5 defense in the last 10 years. We have Wilkins, Chubb, Ogbah, Phillips, Howard…and a number of other defensive stars under the tutelage of Fangio. No, I’m not worried about any other team in the league. They had better be worried about us!
greta outlook I just can’t shake the dolphins curse. We’re consistently for one reason or another a slightly better than .500 team that sneaks into playoff contention. This year the East is goi g to be very very tough! if we have any injuries and we already have losing our biggest free agent than we could be in trouble really quick
I know Dorf. Trust me I know but this season, I’m going with the philosophy of “you reap what you sow” and I’m not going to sow any seeds of potential negativity.
"Hey, look at me! I am interested in signing with the Patriots and the Jets. Hey look at me, I am interested in the signing with the Bills too! Gee, all of these teams are your rivals. Who woulda thought! Hey, look at me! I am going to visit the Jets. Hey, look at me, there's a pretty high chance I sign with the Jets!" Tell me without telling me that he wants to be a Dolphin, and he is just trying to squeeze Grier for some extra money.
