I just don't trust those two to stay healthy at all, and feel like last year was a lucky fluke. Either one of them could break down and just be finished by next season too.
Barry Jackson is reporting that the Phins have sent a contract offer to Dalvin. No discussion of the dollar amount.
The only reason I want Miami to sign Cook is to keep him from going to the Jets. We're fine without him.
I'd much rather they spend on the line than a position they are deep in. RBs are a terrible investment.
I tend to agree, but Cook is way more talented and known commodity than any other running back they have on the roster. I like Mostert and Wilson, but they are spell players. Achane we don't know if he's going to pickup a McDaniel playbook. If they are going to lose Hill for a couple of games, I'd feel much more comfortable with Cook on this roster to take some of the weight off that's going to be on Waddle's shoulders.
We ran the ball pretty well last year. I think McD gave up on the run too quickly and he's said as much.
When did we run the ball well? Maybe three or four games? Most of the time it was pretty bleak outside of the random big play.
We were 19th in avg yards per carry and 31st in attempts. So it seems that we maybe should attempted more but the O Line was doing their job.
I think Dalvin Cook is better than either of our current RBs. With that being said, I think our current room is more than adequate for us to have a great season. Adding Cook would be an embarrassment of riches that would provide dividends but seems unnecessary.
Cook has been to 4 pro bowls, rushing for 1,000 yards, averaging 350 yards receiving and over 10 TDs per year over the past 4 years. I like Mostert and Wilson but its disingenuous to think they are in the same class as Cook. You can debate how much Cook will add to the offense or whether its wise to sign a 28-year old RB but there's no debate that Cook is a better RB.
You can watch Cook highlights and see he is 5x the runningback of Wilson and is at least 2x the runningback of Mostert. The only issue with Cook is salary cap and allocation of funds in 2024 and beyond. There is zero question that Cook would make the Dolphins a better team in 2023.
Especially because you then have built in redundancy. Running one guy 30 times a game for 150 yards is going to wear him out, but running three guys 10 times for 50 yards each and they're good to go. If one gets dinged (which Mostert and Wilson probably are) then you still have two to go with. And a good run game is absolutely to the benefit of both Tua and the Defense. It makes everything else on the team easier.
Wilson doesn't get dinged up more than any other running back. Cook is just as injury prone as he is. Which is another thing to consider with Cook. He has started to get dinged up a bit in the last two years
He has, but the bulk of it dates back to one injury on his shoulder. The question is whether he can get past that and be close to what he was before or not. Its a fair question, but I think the odds are in his favor. The important thing though is that any commitment to Cook would be a short one, likely for just two seasons. He's not going to damage the cap or prevent us from doing anything else for 2025 and beyond. X Howard, for example, will be a bigger burden on the team in 2026 than Cook would in 2024. Same with Armstead and Chubb.
Mozart had 891 rushing yards. 200 receiving and 5 TD's Wilson had 860 rushing yards, 185 receiving and 6 TD's Seems to me they out produced Cook.
Both had better per carry average then Cook. Seems odd that would occur if Cook is twice as good as either of them.
Why not? Those two would be used this same way this year barring injury. They both had enough carries to be valid discussions, not like one of them only had 50 carries.
It is, but only if the output from other Vikings RBs was minimal which I didn't watch enough of their games to know if that was the case or not.
I feel like we are saying two completely different things. You originally said that "I just feel like the back we currently have can produce the same numbers." I'm not sure which back you are talking about but that would take a big leap of faith as no RB on our roster has ever produced at the level near what Cook has. Combining Mostert and Wilson's stats to suggest that they are on par with Cook isn't a fair comparison. It would be like saying the Patriots' WRs are better than Hill because combined they had more yards than he did. It just doesn't work like that. What I think you are trying to say is that our RB room is good enough and that upgrading to Cook isn't worth the money. That's an argument that may have some merit (depending on how important you think the running game is) but to deny Cook is an upgrade is not a valid agrument in my opinion.
I agree with both of those that Mostert is good enough and also the combined backs in the room are better then Cook. WR and RB is not really a fair comparison because there are more then one WR on the field at one time.
He wants to play here, and is using interest from rivals NE and NYJ to bump up the contract offer: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...also-interested-tag-deadline-key-per-reports/
I had to stop watching after the dude referred to the Jets as " a stacked team". The way that the national media is now considering them to be awesome just makes me want to puke. This is a 7-10 team that added a 40 year old QB.
He's not a national media guy. Boomer has a local radio show on WFAN in NY and he's the co-host. I personally loved the disappointment in his voice when he came to terms with the Jets were likely getting used.
The Jets defense will be exposed this year when they actually play starting caliber quarterbacks for 17 games.
We'll see if the officials actually call garnener for all of the holding and DPI that he got away with last season too.
