I’ve been critical of Grier but this was a great move. He was rated #3 by PFF last year and even if he drops off 10-20 spots, that level of play changes our defense. We can be more aggressive blitzing with better coverage. Maybe Phillips and Chubb get more sacks. More sacks equals more turnovers. More turnovers equals more wins.

Miami is a premier destination, expect another splash or two. Players wants to be here, a lot of them have family or homes here.

Who's next? Dalvin Cook? Bobby Wagner? Jordan Poyer?

Poyer is very likely, let’s see what happens during the Monday news cycle.

Miami is just trying to meet the mandated quota of (some variation allowed for spelling) players named; 'Jalen'.

just like a year ago, some exciting free agency signings. Shame when the season starts it all goes downhill.

If somehow Poyer ended up in Miami that would be beyond Elite. It would be Legendary.

I agree. Ramsey was the 3rd best CB last year and everyone is saying he had a down year? That is some kind of standard right there. And now everyone is essentially saying X is done. Lest we forget the guy played 75% of the season with TWO groin injuries and on top of that was playing with a bunch of 3rd string guys. I think I'm gonna give X a pass until we can see what he looks like on the field this year, thank you very much.

Personally I love this trade. Grier seems to be a genius at trading and pretty poor at drafting so I'm all for using picks on proven veteran players. We basically have a 2 year window here to win with Tua on his rookie deal although the restructures were clever giving the team outs on them in a couple of years time in case we need to blow everything up again.

I'd love for us to sign Bobby Wagner as well, old or not that would be a massive upgrade at LB.

Miami is a destination now. It's always been advantageous because of the TAX situation and, well, it's Florida. Now that we scored in the #2 spot on that NFLPA poll I think that opens a lot of players eye some that may not have considered Miami before. And before we start getting a bunch of "it's just a poll that means nothing" remember it is a poll that was answered by players themselves on their own work environment and ultimately the poll is for them. Fans only get bragging rights out of the thing.

    It's a thought anyway.

At his age Wagner would probably be relatively inexpensive, but the guy can still flat play.

Do you think there will be a dramatic cost difference between Wagner and Tremaine Edmunds?
Edmunds is a lot younger and signing him would hurt Buffalo.

I think Edmunds is going to command much more. Weird thing is in discussions with some friends that are Bills fans, they don't seem that impressed with him anymore. Anyone know why that may be?

Jumping in on this a bit late but how can anyone not LOVE this trade?

Ramsey is a 6 time pro bowl cornerback and to get that kind of talent we gave up a 3rd round draft pick and TE Long, who only had 1 catch last season.

If only Grier could but it out of the park with draft picks. Have to give credit where credit is due. Armstead, Hill and now Ramsey?

Unless something catastrophic happens next season, the Dolphins are going to be scary to play!

The Dolphins are starting two CB's that made the Pro Bowl last season. That's insane. Sure neither are young upstarts like Sauce Gardener. But if they can get any level of pressure with their pass rushers they'll be scary good.

They were lit up several games last season but the Defense kept them in just about every game when Tua was out or when he was struggling. (San Fran and LA).

Love the trade. A 3rd rounder and a scrub.

I hope we're not getting into Rams territory with trading picks for vets. In todays salary cap that strategy isn't sustainable long term. You need the cheap 1 - 3 rounders to pan out at low $$$ to keep paying your up and coming players.

    Eff them Picks.

The Dolphins aren't in a mood for building anything through the Draft. If this team falls a part due to injury, we're back to 2019 when we can see them Trading all these players for Draft capital and fielding a JV team.

But lets enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Ummm.. the Rams won the SB trading picks for vets. They're unloading now as a consequence. Who cares. They won the SB! I'm all for trading picks for vets if you make great deals, and Grier seems to be pretty good at this. Great trade, hoping for more!

The difference is the Dolphins potentially have a young superstar quarterback to fall back on.

Tua is still unproven. I'm very happy we picked up his 5th year as there's really no other clearly better option for the next 2 years — fantasies like Rodgers I don't think we could afford while signing vets like Ramsey, and we need help on defense — but Tua is still in a prove it mode given how he ended last season. How he ends up long term who knows.

I think pre-2021 Stafford vs. pre-2023 Tua is a wash. Pre-2021 Stafford was solidly above average but not elite, and the Rams needed an elite season out of him. It was a gamble and they got one elite season but not two (shows the unsustainability of high level play with Stafford). Dolphins need Tua to last the season and play well in postseason the next 2 years. A similar gamble. Hope it works.

Ramsey made it known that he has a "Miami" price, and then an "everywhere else" price. That's awesome news because that means our needle is pointing in the right direction around the league. Unlike the talking heads, Ramsey is no fool and he came to Miami to pick up additional rings. Hopefully he's a 2-3 year starter before the wheels fall off the bus and we can't afford all these studs anymore.

Like you said though, who cares!?!

Have to hand it to Grier, he does know how to pull off major trades for top players. If he was half as good at drafting as he is at trading we'd be perennial superbowl contenders by now. The problem is he gets the major decisions wrong, and his philosophy of how to build a team is flawed imo. He builds the team from the outside in instead of from the inside out. Focuses too much on skill positions and neglects the trenches, and also got the QB wrong which was his biggest mistake.

You keep saying that but this team looks seriously improved from last year. Our DC is a massive upgrade and so is our CB situation given Jones' unavailability. We managed to make the playoffs last year with our starting QB out for 5 games and the 24th ranked defense. I understand the risk of Tua getting injured again, but this year's team looks like a more solid playoff team than last year's team.

We make the playoffs again and we're in new territory: 4 straight winning seasons and 2 straight years making the playoffs. Have to go back more than 20 years for that in Dolphins history. It's going to be hard to argue we're moving in the wrong direction if that happens. Furthermore, we're not tied to Tua for more than 2 years. He proves he's worth it and we have a true franchise QB. He proves otherwise and in 2024 or 2025 we can trade for or draft a new QB.

I actually think this team is being managed relatively well right now compared to much of the last 20 years. All depends on results of course. We fail to make the playoffs in 2023 and it's time to clean house.

NFL.com stating the obvious, two days before players can even sign:

The Dolphins still need more than Jalen Ramsey. It's a sexy trade for all the obvious reasons. Ramsey, 28, is in the prime of his career and the best cornerback in football. You add a player of his caliber to a secondary that already has another stud cornerback (Xavien Howard) and a talented young safety (Jevon Holland) and it's going to look great on paper. The real question is whether Miami can generate a consistent enough pass rush to help the back end perform even better. The Dolphins acquired edge rusher Bradley Chubb in a midseason trade in 2022 -- and Jaelan Phillips showed some promise as a rookie -- but this unit ranked tied for 14th in the league in sacks (40) and 24th in scoring (23.5 points per game). The good news is that new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is one of the most creative minds in the game. He should be able to do a lot more with that talent than his predecessor, Josh Boyer. Ramsey's arrival also will help the Dolphins get over the disappointment that was former cornerback Byron Jones, who never lived up to the huge contract he received in free agency in 2020. Right now, you can't argue against the star power in Miami. The offense has Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle while the defense has improved with the trades for Chubb and Ramsey. You can make these kind of moves when you have a quarterback playing on a rookie deal. Of course, we all know that this team's future rests heavily on whether that quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, can stay healthy for a full season.

Smith asked for a trade at the beginning of the season. Said he would continue to honor his contract but that he wanted out of Chicago.
