Tua is not the Problem

So who was it that threw the 45 yard pass on 3rd and 22 that split the safeties and hit Waddle perfectly in stride? Did Teddy or Skylar come in for that? I must have missed it.

With takes like this it's pretty obvious you will never be fair or happy with Tua. So, if we get rid of him, who do you want to be QB next year? To be honest, you don't even sound like a Dolphins fan with that take.

 

By the same people using the same old narrative which has mostly been proven false this year. I haven't been back on the board for long but I'm beginning to wonder if some of them are even Dolphins fans.

San Diego are the first team to successfully take away the middle of the field. I doubt Buffalo will play like that but if they do I expect to see a lot of quick outs instead.

From memory, I'm sure Tua made a few good throws in the Browns game that were outs.

At the start of the season it was that he couldn't throw deep and was a dink and dunk QB (like Herbert this year) but now it's he can only throw deep and is too agressive. If we go back to dink and dunk for the remainder of the year I 'm sure people will go back to saying he can't throw deep.

 

Unfortunately, they are pretty screwed. They traded all their picks. So if anyone becomes available on the market, they can't make a move for him. It's pretty much the exact scenario of Tannehill years that I wanted to avoid. Not bad enough to draft at the top, not good enough to win anything. Personally, I'd keep drafting QBs and hope you find one in a later round ala Jalen Hurts.

 

I agree that he's not bad enough to draft at the top, he's proven that even in a terrible situation his floor is around #20 best QB in the league. I'm still not ready to give up on the winning part yet, let's see how the next 4 games play out.

For me, the Bills game is a game we just have to get through. I don't expect Tua to play well due to the conditions and the defence. The Bills have been great on defence all year at limiting QB's. Also, I read earlier that superman himself, Josh Allen has a passer rating of 52 when games are played at 32F or less. If even that big, strong armed QB is terrible in cold weather what chance does our small, puny QB have? /s btw in case it's needed.

The Packers at home will be interesting. That's where I would hope we start to see some progression from Tua on throwing outside the numbers or taking the checkdown as I think they will probably play the same way as the Chargers on defence.

The last two games he has to play well for us to make the play-offs imho. Those are the real make or break games. He failed last year with the season on the line, let's see if he's learned anything.

 

The advantage Allen will have is running. So even if the weather is bad for throwing, he can run the ball.

Yes Tua can throw over the middle. Yes Tua can make the throws when he can set in a clean pocket.

No one is questioning Tua's abilities when everything is great.

It won’t matter. Tua could be 50/50 for 5000 yards, 50 TDs and it would still, “well that was just 1 game”.

Neither quarterbacks’ stats are going to be barnstorming tonight if the forecast holds. If the weather goes south right quick and in a hurry, I’d be surprised if either quarterback throws for over 100 yards.

 

Well just for reference, Tua's 4 coldest games so far are all away games: Broncos and Bills in 2020, and Bills and Titans in 2021. He's winless in all 4 with a combined passer rating of 61.6, Y/A = 5.5 and 2 TDs vs. 5 INT's.

He's been getting worse too. The 4 passer ratings in chronological order are: 81.9, 62.5, 58.2 and 53.1. So aside from any other comparisons, it'll be interesting to see if he can improve on his miserable and declining cold weather/away game performance.

Played well today despite the cold.

 

Yeah, he missed a bunch of throws but made up for it with some key TD passes. Ended with a 104 rating. He's getting his mojo back slowly. And he did that against the #2 defense. Our defense is why we ultimately lost. The offense was good enough despite mistakes.

Tua played ok, but he was obviously the second best QB on the field again for the second week in a row. Allen outplayed Tua by a mile.

Again, Tua is a good but not great QB.

 

I think the problem is unless you have Burrow, Allen or Mahomes, you better have a great team around your QB to beat them. And we certainly don’t. It’s nice luxury to have Hill and Waddle but our GM has done a sh*** job of drafting and it shows on defense and OL.

 

Allen made some unbelievable plays and also some really poor ones as well like every QB does. That over throw to Diggs would have had this place in meltdown.

Big difference for me was Tua was playing against the #2 rated defence in the league while Allen was playing against a secondary that wouldn’t look out of place in a pre-season game.

 

Once again you only focus on negatives. Tua proved you wrong today. Under no circumstances would you have predicted he would play as well as he did today, well enough to win against a very good defense in December in the cold in a playoff-like game. Our defense lost the game for us, not the offense. I agree he didn't play "great", but it wasn't just "OK" either. He played well even if you can't admit it.

 

Played well enough to win in a tough environment in poor weather against an elite defense. Its increasingly clear hes a top 10 qb and not the problem as the thread posits. You have him for 4more years minimum so you better just get used to it as the cost to get the guys “clearly” better than him is prohibitive. The roster should be built around him and his game. Defense needs an upgrade in second and third levels badly

 

The defense gave up 32 points. Whether it was our sh**iness or Allen’s greatness I don’t know. What I do know is they’ve given up 24.6 points a game and it’s one of the worst in the NFL. So has Minnesota but somehow their offense is good enough to overcome that.

 

Minnesota is deeper. And in addition to the only WR duo that holds a candle to ours they have hammers at TE and RB.

 

We were ranked #8 in points scored and #22 in points allowed prior to this game. We'll most likely move down on that list in defense after this. There's only one time in NFL history where a team with those kind of statistics won the SB: the 2011 Giants who were #9 in points scored and #25 in points allowed. That's how rare it is.

The #1 priority this offseason has to be building a good defense, starting with finding a real DC. Otherwise we'll just waste what looks like a perennial top 10 offense. We get that wrong and it's almost as bad as not finding the right HC or QB.

 

No doubt. Grier has done a sh*** job of managing this roster and drafting. We literally had a cowboys dynasty type of trade and are a marginal playoff team. Let that sink in for a bit

I hope it’s scheme and not players. Howard and Holands play has dropped off significantly but maybe it’s due to injuries around them. Our ILB’s are horrible. Maybe Chubb has helped other pass rushers but he’s been non-existent for what we’ve invested in him.

 

x is banged up. Jones hasnt played one anap. Jones missed 3/4 of the season. Its tough.

 

I agree with others saying it's primarily the DC that needs to change — been saying we should replace Boyer for 2 months at least. So really it's more McDaniel's responsibility to fire Boyer and find a new DC. We'll see if he has the balls.

 

I don’t think you fire the DC at this point in the season. Day one of the off-season though definitely

 

Everybody has injuries. Buffalo was missing 2 all pro defensive players and managed to shut us down when it mattered.
