Josh Boyers fate is about to be decided IMHO. We have run through the bad teams the last 6 weeks and now we are heading into the final stretch of games and there are no more freebies!

Boyer has to dial up some impressive defenses down the stretch here and I’m scared he actually can’t do it. We have been letting really bad teams move the ball at will at times and asked our offense to play madden to get 30 points+ to bail them out. That’s not going to happen from here out.

we are probably going to be in a lot of close 17-24 type games throughout this stretch starting with 3 road games against good teams.

If we go <500 down the wire here which I believe is going to happen we could be looking at a possible wildcard spot or miss out by 1 game again. I do not trust Boyer can match up.

If we end up 9-8 or 10-7 or worse I think we need to seriously look at replacing Boyer in the off-season.

Do you have faith that the defense under Boyer is going to hold up down the stretch?

11 games will get us in the playoffs. If we go 3-3 then we're in.

We're very likely to make the playoffs, but without a decent defense we're not going far in the postseason. A (barely) top 10 defense gives up around 20 points per game. I think that's where Boyer's defense needs to be post-bye to say we should keep him. Before the bye we gave up 24.1 ppg when the league average was 21.9.

We can't make the same mistake as during (most of) Marino's years and have a great offense with a bad defense.

Josh Boyer is going to survive based on his relationship with McDaniel.

I'm currently more worried about our OL, did you see that second half?

Goodbye Josh, and hello Vic Fangio, the week our season ends, hopefully! Our defense has some talent, but the scheme is straight up trash, and they have horrible problems both with tackling and in coverage.

36 yards rushing and 215 passing. 15 points. And everyone is crapping the bed. Don't let the bandwagon run your arse over as you jump off. LoL.

Did you watch the game? Are you OK with a defense only play a half?

They scored 1 touchdown, set up another touchdown, and only allowed 15 points. Yes they took the foot off the gas in the second half, but so did the offense. The offense did nothing in the second half to assist.

I see that as more of a McDaniel problem than a defense problem.

Did you? In the 2nd half they gave up 166 yards in the air and 23 on the ground. 2 sacks and 1 Int. Other than the 2 long passes of 25 and 39, there wasn't another play over 20 yards in the 2nd half.

Against the worse offense in the league with a rookie quarterback who moved the Balla t will for the entire second half of the game. Also have you watched any of our previous games where were giving up 24+ plus a game? Allowing average quarterbacks to gain 100 yards rushing and 300 yards passing?

Im not saying we're 32nd in the league but we are going to have real problems if the defense isn't stout down the road here and into the playoffs. The defense is a pure liability IMHO.

Of course, the Dolphins have real problems. Bethel and Crossen are both significant players on the Dolphins' defense when both were signed to be special teams players. The Dolphins have significant injuries to their secondary, on a defense that by design relies on the secondary.

Also, Kyle Allen is not a rookie.

Kyle Allen has been in the league since 2018.

The Dolphins D allowed a whopping 15 points against the Texans, with a forced fumble returned for a TD and a pick 6.

I’m not sure what more you want against a team. Keep in mind, Houston had more opportunities with the ball after Armstead went out and then Tua went out. Miami’s offense pretty much stalled after halftime.

When you give a team that many opportunities, as the old adage goes, even a blind squirrel finds a nut. We gave Houston more than enough opportunities as our offense was pretty much inept after halftime.

I'm not griping about the overall performance of the D against Houston. That 2nd half was sloppy though, which the HC needs to fix.

The gripe about the D is that even after such a performance, for the year we're 19th in points allowed per game. Contrast that with the offense where we're 6th in points scored per game (including the crappy games with our backup QBs).

The average rank for points scored per game and for points allowed per game by SB winners is between 5.5 and 6. So we're statistically exactly where we need to be on offense. Nowhere near on defense. That's why the gripe about the defense.

We're still quite a bit better than the worst team (statistically) to win a SB though: 2011 Giants who were 9th in points scored and 25th in points allowed lol. But I'd like to see us increase the odds a bit more from the low single digit percentages.

What concerns me most about the defense is their significant difference between home and away games.

At home, the Dolphins are allowing only 15.3 points per game but on road games, they’re allowing 32.8 points per game. Granted, we’re 8-3 and vying for the playoffs but allowing nearly 33 points per game on the road doesn’t bode well for a playoff contender.

If the defense doesn’t step up and doesn’t start shutting teams down on away games, our potential post season is going to be a short one.

It kinda worries me that basically the defense scored 14 of the 30 points in the game.

That doesn't worry me at all.

I am more concerned about McDaniel coaching in this game. Though I think he can learn from this.

This defence should be very good in cold weather actually as they are absolutely great against the run and people haven't really noticed it. I don't think a single RB has gained 100 yards on us this year. All people see is the average per rush which is inflated massively due to Lamar, Fields and Allen.

If we didn't have all those injuries in the secondary chances are this is a top 10-12 defence at worse. We have essentially lost CB1, CB2, CB3 and S2 for most of the year as X has not been himself. We've had to rely on UDFA and special teamers being starters. For that alone, Boyer is going to get a pass this year I think.

How much of that yardage was given up in the second half?

166 pass and 20 rush. You have to remember that they started to play the prevent D which allows for those 8-12 yards passed. if you take the 2 long receptions out they had roughly 100 yards in the air on approx. 11 rec. It was the fumble in our own end that really made things worse.
