Am I the only person here who's bought this game? Heck, I might be one of the only in the country to buy it; the guy at Gamestop had never even heard of it and thought I was there to buy The Force Unleashed.

Anyway, this is a nice throwback to my childhood, since the old Dragon Warrior games were the first RPGs I ever played. Nice to see that the game retains the classic gameplay but isn't nearly as difficult. The item prices are still housing bubble high, though. The port from the PSOne (which was a remake of the NES game) is done pretty well. All in all, I approve.

If anyone liked Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2, Dragon Warrior VII on the PSOne, NES RPGs, or good games in general, do yourself a favor and buy this.

I will look to get it, but after getting so many games for my DS recently, I can't justify buying this one right now.

I got Rock Band 2 on the way for 360 though (and the new drums).

I never did "get" Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution, and all the rest.

Wow, this is it? No discussion at all about DQ4? No reminiscing about the original NES release during our childhoods?

    :pity:

I never played the original on NES, though I am familiar with it and the DQ/DW franchise.

I have DW3 for gameboy (color?).

Well... I want to get it. It's just that... I still haven't finished FF4 DS. On top of that portable gaming is far from my favorite medium. If I play a game, I want my big TV, and nasty HDMI cables, and whicked surround sound.

The only time I play FF4 (now) is when I'm waiting at the barbershop or something. At this rate, I'll need a new DS game in about 2012.

Give us some info. Is it good? What's it play like?

That was an okay port, nothing great. DQ4 is entirely different, based on the PSOne remake that never came out here. Plays much more smoothly, easier to get around.

Oh, man. I realize your dad is having his midlife crisis and he's Best Buy's new friend, but c'mon. I've played FF4DS three times and I'm about halfway through DQ4 now, having just gotten the ship in chapter 5.

It plays... well, like a Dragon Quest game. More along the lines of the SNES entries we never got than the NES games, though. Great writing, plot reliance more on quirky characters and situational humor than overall story, and the gameplay is typical classic DQ grinding. Thankfully, they made the game easier and money easier to come across; you won't spend four hours leveling up outside each town like the original.

It's far more pick-up-and-play than FF4DS, since the structure is "go to new area, go to dungeon, return to town to solve problem, leave for next destination." Formulaic but fun.
