I totally get that. I'd have been nervous as hell myself with it taking that long. They're still where I probably want to buy my own eventually though, because they're the only one that lets you buy a 4-year accidental damage plan.

When I got my PS5 from amazon, I ordered it at 11am and I got it at 5pm. Honestly I thought it might be a scam until it got here.

I have an Amazon distribution center an hours drive from my house, and even with Prime I've never gotten anything faster than two days. And that's generally the very end of the second day. When I get notified I'm getting a UPS delivery at 7am, it generally comes after 7pm.

That is the thing. I have an Amazon distribution center about 15 to 20 minutes from where I live. I generally get things from prime the day after. Until the last few months, stupid post office being defunded.

So the fact that I ordered a PS5, which seemed impossible to get and then the shipping was the same day just seemed too good to be true.

Part of me thought I was going to open a box of bricks.

Biomutant has the same issue that several of my earliest PS4 games did with Rest Mode. The play time on my file says I've been at it for about five days (125ish hours) when in reality, its been more like 40 hours according to the tracker website that I use. I don't think I've had another game with this bug in a long time.

I've been playing Amazon's New World for about two weeks now (after I grew bored with Vanguard and 2042 was just terrible). Cost was about $30 IIRC. It's definitely been a good buy so far. It's the only thing I'm gaming at the moment. Just doing solo stuff. I've been looking to test my new PC. Even with the graphx settings on low I lag, and I know that's not my PC (because it was awesome on the FPS games). It could be in part due to my ISP although it's even laggy when I'm on my own (with the kids at school and not using up bandwidth streaming lol). Anyway, if anyone playing NW, lmk.

40 hours into Octopath Traveler, and I'm very much enjoying it. the developers really care about what they were trying to do, and its basically a "lost" SNES Final Fantasy title in between 6 and 7. Very, very high marks in that regard. They've totally gotten it right. The look, the feel, the dialogue, the combat mechanics, the grinding and leveling up and equipment and skills. Its all there.

That being said, I am in the bullseye of the target audience, as someone who was a teenager and obsessed with those older games when they originally came out. For people who don't have that same perspective, it very well could be less appealing with the lack of nostalgia.

On a related note, its being rumored that the Pixel Remasters of the first six FF games will be coming to the Switch at some point this year. If so, I'm in.

I was able to borrow it for a week from my local library to check it out, and I'm really glad that I did. Sold me on it. I was on the fence before that.

The next two months (Feb/Mar) are absolutely loaded and I'm going to have to make some tough decisions.

    • Elden Ring
    • Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West
    • Dying Light 2
    • Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
    • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

I'm certainly extremely looking forward to HZD:FW when I get a PS5. I'm not settling for a PS4 version, especially on my standard machine. I can be patient. I'll probably eventually check out Stranger of Paradise too. Interesting concept, especially since the original Final Fantasy that its based on was part of my kickstart to the life in gaming that I've lived ever since.

My next game is Edge of Eternity, which comes to consoles next month after being in production the entire lifecycle of the PS4.

If you like medieval city builders Against The Storm is pretty fun. It is a city-building rogue-like. Basically, there is a city-ending event every few years that cause all the outposts to be destroyed, but some of the resources you build allow you to upgrade your main citadel.

So far each city takes about an hour to complete, which gives you a lot of the thrills of building the city but also stops when it can become a redundant boring experience. Also, it is nice to feel accomplished in about an hour.

I played it when it came out (to the endgame), and just a little of Iceborne, but it was a lot of fun.

I only used the Hammer though, because some of the other weapons I found too technically difficult while trying to acclimate to the game as well.

I'm using the switch axe and it's a lot of fun. I love the complexity of all weapons. Definitely a lot of depth and replayability. I am only HR 14 and killed one of the three elders, so I am getting to end game which I want to complete before buying Iceborne. Gotta slay all elders to get to HR50+ now.

Not really what I'm playing, but the opposite. With all of the talk about Microsoft buying Activision, I was curious about the last Activision game I played, thinking it was back in the SNES or NES days. But it turns out that although I've been familiar with the company since the 80s, I've never once played their games in any generation. They just have never made games that I'm interested in. So as a Sony gamer, this is all just hot air to me. They can have them.

    Welcome.
I got to around tier 4 or 5 in Iceborne and stopped. I'm now waiting for the expansion for Monster Hunter Rise on Switch, which is like World but the -lite version. The combat in Rise is the most accessible and quickest of the series. World was more ambitious- they both have their strengths and weaknesses and I love how Capcom adds wrinkles to the DNA with each entry.

If you believe the leaks, the sequel to MH World will be out 2024. It will be glorious.

I am about to beat the game Per Aspera. It is a simple game with an interesting story. If you like building cities, gathering resources, and watching your automation work, it is a fun game.

It isn't super hard, however, it is easy to allow things to run away from you if you aren't paying attention or expand too quickly.

Basically, you are an AI that is in charge of terraforming Mars. The story is basically you are an adaptive AI and so sophisticated that you start questioning what is life and if you are a sentient being. Then there is a mystery as to what is really going on. The latest patch a few months back allowed you to turn Mars green. It is satisfying watching Mars go from barren, to full of water, and then becoming green.

It isn't the best version of this game ever, however, it is simple enough to not be overwhelmed and difficult enough to have a challenge to it.

I completed my playthrough of Biomutant at about 60 hours. Its a fun, ambitious game, and bigger than I expected it to be. It offers the player a whole lot of freedom, but doesn't give nearly as much guidance as I think is necessary. Even as an experienced gamer, I found myself needing to look up things online that should have been plainly laid out of made more basic.

The good is that there's a lot of content, and as long as you pace yourself, the game remains at about the right level of challenge, as the enemies level up with you. By coincidence and not intent, I fought the final boss at Level 50, which seems appropriate. The game has an enormous amount of loot to find, but the overwhelming majority of it is total junk and basically useless. I found what would be my final pieces of some of the gear about 20% of the way through.

The bad is that the game had more slowdown and crashing issues than any other PS4 title I've ever played, despite the graphics being pretty simple. I imagine this is probably in part due to it being from a smaller studio. The worst was that the game crashed after I'd beaten the final boss in a long battle without autosaving, and I had to go back and do the entire thing a second time. There are also issues occasionally with the platforming not working, and the controls were never as tight as I would have liked. It felt more like a PS2 game in those ways than one being made today.

In the end, I would recommend the game to anyone who enjoys action RPGs, with the caveat that its not a AAA title. Probably a $30 value.

Haven't bought it and won't, but I couldn't roll my eyes any harder at Pokemon Arceus.

It just looks like a quickly slapped together mixture of the same old stale Pokemon and a little bit of BotW. And the world is ugly and lazy. Critics are praising because it's different than the usual, but it certainly doesn't look well-executed.

I'm actually very interested in it. I'd never played a Pokemon game before Shield, but I had fun with it. And then I absolutely loved Breath of the Wild, so I was very intrigued by this mash up. I'll definately borrow it from my local library if they get it and try it out for a week to see for myself (and my kids) should they get it.

I finished my first ever playthrough of Mass Effect 1 as part of the Legendary Edition. Very glad to be able to experience it firsthand. And even after playing 2 and 3 multiple times and being very familiar with the ME Universe, there were still things that I learned which I didn't know before. They also did a really solid job of making it more playable as a 3rd person shooter.

Yes, I worked as a tester for Microsoft Studios on Mass Effect 1. Brett Dupree is my name.

I was so happy when I learned I was on the credits. One of my life's goals. The other credit I am on as a tester is Zoo Tycoon Extinct Animal Edition. Which was a very interesting game to test. I once had to spend 30 minutes reducing the fun of two penguins to see if they would play on a toy ice berg. Also my favorite bug I ever found, which was if you cloned two super animals their babies would be twice the size that they should be. That took a long time to set up but it was worth it.

That's really cool! I'm glad that you got that experience.

I had a friend who worked as a tester about 10-15 years ago, and he grew to hate it. He didn't get to choose which games, or even which genres that he would work with, and so most of the time they were absolutely terrible games where he had to test the limits of this or that to make sure it wouldn't break, rather than experience it as a player and give feedback, as I think most people who aren't exposed to it assume would be the case.

    Yea, it was pretty cool.

Yea, I can see why he grew to hate it. It is not fun in the sense that playing games is fun. In fact, other than User Interface and Artifical Intelligence, there is little difference between testing a game and testing banking software. It is really doing something and making sure the right numbers come out a lot of the time.

Plus, take your favorite game. And now play it for 40 hours a week for months. Unless it is a MMORPG, there is not that much content. Of course you also have to create little reports everytime you find an issue, so it is a lot of paper work. Also, games are not fun until about a month before release. I found it interesting to test Mass Effect, however, it sucked as a game. If you think the Maco is hard to drive now, imagine how it was before it was fixed. It bounced everywhere and sometimes would just continue bouncing and you couldn't move it because it was bouncing.

The queen lady wasn't put in a month before release so I have no idea what happens during that level. I had to go to Zoo Tycoon during the time they were doing playthroughs. Yes, playthroughs, all the testers had two weeks to just play the game everyday, as many times as they could before launch to find any game breaking issues.

I also do not know because I did not buy the game because I was sick of it. I have played through that first level so many times. I might get the new edition since it has been 15 years since I tested it.

When ME2 came out, I had a friend describe what a pain in the *** ME1 was to play, and how excited he was that the second one was much better. He loved the story and graphics of the first one, but hated both the combat and the Mako. Basically told me that I wasn't missing anything in regards to that experience.

When I played ME2 I was disappointed because they streamlined the combat and took many of the RPG elements out of it. ME1 was a lot like Dragon Age Origins in space. I would have loved it if it wasn't ruined by testing it.

I've long been a minority in the Dragon Age community with my opinions. Loved the story of DA1, absolutely hated the gameplay. I thought that in many ways DA2 was a huge upgrade. In that realm, ME2 is still one of my favorite games of all time. Personal inner circle HOF of video games. For me, the combat was (is) just right.

I hated the gameplay of DA2. I felt the combat very unsatisfying. I set up my squad, fight and all of a sudden people come drop from ropes behind my mage? **** that.

It was like strategy didn't even count.

I did love the story. Loved how it felt like my decisions mattered and the time jumps really showed a huge epic story.

The combat certainly wasn't perfect. They really improved it for DA:I, which like ME2, is one of my favorite games. But the combat in DA1 was just miserable if you played it as an action RPG with a controller, like I did. I know that PC players would choose to do it as an isometric strategy thing, but that was absolutely not for me, and the whole game just ended up being me hacking away at enemies over and over and healing when I needed to. It was lacking, to say the least.

Yea that is what I did and why I liked it. It was like Baulder's Gate. I loved it. Felt DA2 had almost zero strategy and felt more like a hack and slash. Half the time I didn't know what was going on.
