Tom Jackson is also the source of the "Reggie Bush is the next Gale Sayers" crap from 2006. He can be safely ignored, kind of like DeAngelo Hall this game. Raiders really need to get something going. There's too much young talent on that team now. They need to start winning.
That's it. Eddie Royal, meet my fantasy team. You can have Nate Burleson's chair. Or not. SOMEONE claimed him.
I took a flier on Ted Ginn for the final spot on my stacked team. GOODBYE Ted Ginn, hello Eddie Royal.
Yes, that's why Burleson's chair is free. Damn, in the three leagues I could use him, he's already been claimed.
hahaha that was me in The Phinsmate 2008 i'm still bummed we lost but after watching the Raiders, I'm glad I'm a Fins fan.
You're the third guy. Calphin either drafted or claimed him in the one league I could use him, and Boik just claimed him in the league where I REALLY need him. Well stated. Have a thanks.
I feel like I am watching Mike and Mike.... (and Mike) in the morning... MNF edition. It is kinda weird. I wish they would bring Brad Nessler in like they did 2 years ago. Nessler, Jaws, and Vermeil was an outstanding crew.
Oakland is so bad I am laughing out loud right now. This is great comedy. Disappointed there is only 16 minutes left of this comedy classic.
They have a decent nucleus they just need a damn coach. Russel's first game but man that guy has an arm. Just needs to learn a tiny bit more touch. They just need to get it together.
You know, he hasn't looked that bad during preseason and this game running down the middle. I saw the draft film of him going down on simple contact, but he seemed to do ok from what I've seen during the preseason and maybe a bit in this game.
Tough break for the Raiders, but he wasn't doing much anyway. Use Michael Bush more, guys. Play power football.
'yeah, Russell needs to learn touch on his ball. his WR had his man beat there. all you chicken little folks need to be happy we aren't bad as "Da Raiders" and at least our coach and FO are on the same page compared to Kiffin and Al Davis.
hahaha. i love it when Bill Gates shows his platinum Clown card but the commercial doesn't make sense. I heard Jerry Sienfield got paid $10m to do those commercials.
If I'm a Raiders fan, I'm hoping Al Davis sells his portion of the team AND that Lane Kiffin gets fired.
I wouldn't be surprised if Lane is tanking this team on purpose. I have some insight into that relationship and had heard reports that Kiffin was set to resign shortly before the seaosn opener. Obviously that did not happen. But Al Davis has made it clear that he detests Kiffin and vice versa. It won't last much longer.
I don't think Hall, Russell, or McStoppedOnInitialContact needed any help sucking out there. What's the source of the enmity between Davis and his latest coach?
Maybe the so called Raider Nation aka Gangster Nation will shut up for a week.I live by too many of them. I tell them there in Oakland not So. Cal.
Russel and McFadden played very well today, esp. for first game starters. Not sure what you're talking about?
Asked if Denver had a game plan / scheme to get Royal involved, "No. Eddy Royal just beat DeAngelo Hall time and time and time again. That's what happened." - Jay Cutler. DeAngelo FALL getting crabbed in the media by a QB. You've got to love it.
This was not Russell's first start, and McFadden didn't even outplay Fargas, let alone live up to his hype.
I'd say Russel played fair, not any better...but he was under pressure most of the time. McFadden IS going to be this years big draft-bust. As long as nobody touches him, he runs pretty well. It was interesting watching him try to outrun the Denver Linebackers...didnt work to well. Then it was interesting watching him try to break tackles from fore-mentioned linebackers (Something he never had to do in college cause the he could usually outrun the linebackers)....he really failed that test. I agree MUCH with what Travis says, although you have a few typos there A4. Al Davis is really blowing it to biblical proportions. He has completely MIS-SPENT money and draft picks. All the talent he thought he brought in, just got absolutely OWNED...
Well placed sources within the Raider organization. This is how I was able to break Randy Moss getting traded before anyone else. When Lane was first hired, he called all of his players to introduve himself. Randy demanded that the guy never call him again because there was no way he was playing for Oakland again. I was told that based off of that conversation (which involved a lot of swearing) the Raiders made the decsion to try and trade Randy. And Voila, they ended up doing so. Same source told me about Kiffin/Davis not liking one another. In fact, Davis wants Kiffin to quit, but so far, Kiffin has refused. Davis picked DMC despite Kiffin not wanting to and the Raiders giving Fargas a big contract. My source speculated that Lane is in over his head in Oakland and might possibly resign before the season. Either way, he most likely won't last this seaosn barring a miracle.
I think Russell looks alot better this year. He's made alot of progress year to year. He needs to keep making progress and not rest on his laurels but if he does he could be amazing. That arm is unbelievable. It would be interesting to see what he could do if he had better receivers
Did Russell start a game last year? I stopped watching them after a while, I know he got some time in. I guess you're right. But he did not play bad at all. 17 of 26, 2 TDs, 0 Ints, two deep passes off the hands of Ronald Curry. 111 QBR. He made some mistakes, like holding on the ball too long etc., but these may go away with time. With us having pennington, man is that strong arm sexy! McFadden not living up to his own hype after one game, in which they pulled him? He still ran for 5.1 ypc. Fargas kept going and Fargas is no slouch himself. They look 10 times better than our running game did yesterday. Behind a crappy oline while ours was supposed to be vaunted Maybe with those two on our team we could have gotten two yards on the goal line. I know Fargas would have. Ok I'm bitter still.
Vaunted? We have two rookies, one a late round non-heard of rookie, a second year man (Stud but still) and keep in mind that only two of the five played together last year. And...V-Carey is learning a new position. I do agree that Russel didnt look that bad, cept he did hold onto it too long. Curry dropped two very catchable balls, and both important plays. Russel is going to be fine after the Raiders go 3-13 this year and get the Cream of the WR crop next year...cept Alice Davis will probably select Tim Tebow...
That's not what was being said last week azn. Remember that. Before this game, we were all excited about this oline. That's why I said "vaunted." Ricky looked damn good, and we were running the ball. Then the regular season happened. Doh!
McFadden played well last night but it was the Denver rush defense. I'm personally not high on McFadden because I don't think he can withstand the beating of the NFL and that may just be the case. He got dinged up in the fourth quarter last night and left from what I understand. Regarding Russell, watching him in the first half, I wasn't too impressed with him but this is basically his rookie year and he's still progressing so I can't really bash him or anything. He missed TC last year because of boneheaded holdout. He holds on to the too long as some mentioned but he can also make some throws. He just needs to ease up a tiny bit on the arm strength. His receivers often stretched-out for the ball and some were not caught. I know its hard for him because he is so strong. Another note is that he played against the Denver Broncos secondary which isn't very good. Dre' Bly had a 70% completion rate against him last year and that looks like it will happen again this year. Bailey is back there so they're fine with him. At the Safety spots, they have average players in Manuel and McCree. Basically, they're not a very good defensive team overall. I liked what I saw with the Broncos offense despite not having Marshall. Cutler is going to emerge as a star very soon and Eddie Royal torched DeAngelo Hall. Hall's not the best Corner but he is still in the top 15 range imo. Btw he has to be the biggest bonehead I've seen in a while. Terrible play and terrible penalties. I believe the Raiders played off the Receivers of the Broncos so they gave the players cushion which may have lead to Royal's big day. The Broncos running game was pretty good with an average of 4.6 ypc. The Raiders run defense isn't very good so that may be the case. Overall, it seems that both teams success against each other came against the weaknesses of their opponent. We'll have to see how they fair against stronger teams.
