    You got the wrong stats:
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/GaseAd0.htm

Gase was OC in Denver with Manning in 2013 and 2014 where the offense was ranked #1 and #2 by points scored. Gase wasn't with Denver in 2015 when they won the SB.

This btw is one great piece of evidence it was the QB not the coach because you can see Gase failed everywhere else.

I'm really not sure whether I want the Jets to keep Gase or not. They keep him, they'll keep losing, but if they lose too much they might get the #1 pick and get Lawrence. Tough decisions...

I think his stint here was pretty bad. I don't think he came close to getting the most out of the talent. He was an achor around the team's neck.

    I feel weird.

I just realized that today that this is the first game I expect Miami to win in a long time.

Like, since last season I have been watching games like it was preseason. Enjoying them for what they are and looking for growth.

I feel excitement and I am looking forward to a game. I will actually be upset if they lose.

I almost forgot what it feels like to root for a team to win and to care about the outcome.

You're right, I got the wrong year. But my point about him being a Wunderkind *cough cough* still stands. His offenses have been outright AWFUL!!!

This is why I've always been a fan of Tannehill. I knew Gase was screwing him in Miami just like he's screwing Darnold in New York...but then again, I've never trusted any USC quarterback :tongue2:

To expand on my boo boo, but to validate my point with Gase:

    Year / Team /Offensive Ranking
    2015 /CHI / 21st
    2016 / MIA / 24th
    2017 / MIA / 29th
    2018 / MIA / 30th
    2019 / NYJ / 25th
    2020 / NYJ / 30th (to date)

Like I told Key, that's not offensive genius, it's just offensive!

I certainly dont think he was spectacular either. He was doing well with Tannehill though before his injuries, he was definitely getting the most out of him before he got hurt. After that everything went 100% downhill.

    Yeah Gase is terrible.

But those are rankings for point differentials, so including defense (though for 2020 it's 32nd, not 30th). Just saying, since you wrote "Offensive Ranking". Result is similarly bad for offensive ranking of course.

I mean, that's my whole point. Tannehill under Philbin was awkward- they used him completely wrong for his skill-set. Other coaches coming in to interview wanted to move on from RT basically thinking Philbin "ruined him". Gase saw the opportunity though and felt confident he could get him playing great football....and he did.

Year 1 was the playoffs (without RT). Year two was the stadium closed and bring in Cutler last-minute. Year three was Osweiler for most of the season doing what he could in an offense devoid of talent or protection. Three QB's, three years...and we were a game or two below .500. That's nowhere near as deplorable as everyone is trying to make it out to be.

Plain and simple, if Flores had that exact same make-shift line with all his veteran starters on IR, we'd be 0-5 right now. If you take away his preferred QB and tell him to find a starter on two weeks notice, we might be at negative wins for the year. Gase had some issues but we also had a crap front office and not the right players to compliment RT (when we actually had RT). That's not as black and white as everyone is pushing here- the problem wasn't 100% on Gase at all.

Yeah this is more or less exactly how I feel too. Agreed 100%.

I also think like you said earlier that his skill as a coach is in terms of X's and O's not necessarily leadership. That would be fine on a veteran squad where players can take over some of that burden, but on the Jets I think you are seeing the opposite really. No veteran leadership worth very much and a lack of talent to execute what good ideas he does have.

At the end of the day I think it was a massive mistake for him to both go to the Jets and to be the GM.

I also thought we had found our new "Shula" in 16, he may be a smart guy, but the dude just can not lead men. He is on the spectrum and can not communicate. Every where he goes he there is conflict with some one or some thing. I really jumped hard on the Gase train and saw it end up in flames. I am abs love love love loving BFLOW but I was so jaded after Gase it honestly took me a minute to come around on him. I feel like Gase not only coached his way out of a hc spot, but out of the NFL all together.

    SO Cal
    From PFT:

Jets head coach Adam Gase opened the week musing about the possibility that he would give up his role as the offensive playcaller after an 0-5 start to the season. Gase ultimately didn’t go that route. He said on Wednesday that he will remain in the role after conversations with members of the coaching staff about the problems on offense.

One might wonder if assistant coaches might tell their boss what they think he wants to hear, but offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said on Thursday that isn’t the case. Loggains said “the staff would have no problem telling the boss” that his play calls were an issue and that he believes the issue lies elsewhere.

“Our issues on offense are bigger than playcalling right now. It comes down to execution,” Loggains said, via Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “It comes down to making sure your guys are in the right spots. Whoever calls the plays isn’t [himself] converting on third-and-1, isn’t converting the fourth-and-1 last week in the game. Those are things that come down to details.”

The Jets have been bad enough that any explanation for their shortcomings has some truth to it. None of those explanations reflect all that well on the coaching staff, but the team has thus far avoided joining the Texans and Falcons in making a change.

This is EXACTLY what Gase said when in Miami. The guys weren't executing the plan properly.

I wonder what it's going to be like on the other side of those bubble screens and 3rd and long runs? Could be fun!

I don't want to drag the game day thread down with Gase analysis so I'm going to share some thoughts in the Jets thread in reply to your post @Finatik . Thanks -

I thought that as well- but look at our offensive line today vs at any point in the past 4 seasons. Does it look different to you?

The problem was execution...which was caused by the bigger problem of playing third string linemen.....which was caused by the even bigger problem of bringing in old free agents with histories of injury that ended up on IR for most of the season. Now, you can say it's Gase's fault for the poor execution and in a generic way, you'd be right. But you can't polish a turd into a diamond no matter how hard you scrub.

HOWEVER, Gase started last season as the GM and he had the power to draft linemen, bring in young linemen, etc. He did not do that and every other skill position is now suffering for it. He also said in Miami that guards weren't a huge priority in his offense, then said it wasn't RT's fault when he had zero time to do anything. So a lot of this falls on Gase I think for not fighting hard enough to the GM's to see that priority.

When he's talking about others not executing properly, I would assume he means route trees and all the little things that we're doing well today. That could be a number of problems but most likely, it's that the team communication is a problem and people are not responding properly. Either that's the staff or it's Gase…but it's someone above the players that's ultimately failing.

This one's mainly for cBrad, but I thought everyone will find it interesting. According to NFL Game Theory, the Dolphins have a 72% chance to win this week with an expected score of 29-19....which is the largest win % probability of any game. However, zero context was provided on how they got there...it's just a predicted score and the win probability.

Doesn't look like I can embed the video, but here's the link. They predict the Fins at the 0:50 mark.

Also, the video that auto-plays afterwards says we have a 7% chance of making the playoffs going into week 6.

Fun little quote from NFL power rankings; here's their recap for us at #20-

"My favorite stat from Week 5 … and maybe, ever: With his brilliant performance against the 49ers on Sunday, Ryan Fitzpatrick now has more games of 300-plus yards passing and at least three TDs (12) than John Elway managed during his entire Hall of Fame career with the Broncos."

"Does this mean that Fitzpatrick is a better quarterback than Elway? Well … probably not ... but it's a testament to the enduring nature of Fitzmagic."

"Fitzpatrick's 16th season has been the best of his career by various metrics, and it puts Dolphins coach Brian Flores in a very interesting position with first-round pick Tua waiting on the sideline."

Yeah you search the net and at least for me absolutely nothing comes up about what that model is (there might not even be one lol!!). I did check one thing though: is it just Vegas odds? The answer is no. For example, that "model" says the Steelers have a 56% win probability but at sportsbook.ag (where I sometimes bet) the moneyline is -185 for the Steelers, which corresponds to about a 65% win probability.
    https://www.sportsbook.ag/sbk/sportsbook4/nfl-betting/nfl-game-lines.sbk

Dolphins are -400 right now so 80% win probability and favored to win by 9 points. We BETTER not lose this one.

btw.. note that the Giants are favorites at -145 (59% win probability) over the Redskins. So Vegas is expecting the 0-5 Giants to leave the Tanking for Trevor, or Losing for Lawrence, sweepstakes.

It gave a woman's name- maybe it's her own personal formula? I couldn't find anything either. Not that it matters, I wasn't putting any faith in it....we've just had hundreds of discussions over predictions in recent years and it felt interesting to me.

I think the Dolphins/coaches are aware the Jets are supposed to be horrible and don't want to take anything for granted.

Once the Jets' weaknesses open up I think we'll see Miami open it up.
