I'm curious as to how short Fitz's leash is. The OL looked quite solid. I do not think that putting Tua behind that line poses any threats to his safety. We are going up a cluster of stronger defenses in the near future, so that is worth taking into consideration. Fitz's arm looked dead, and it is hard to see the value in keeping him in if he is throwing INTS. Perhaps, Parker being out for extended time could prolong his debut.
Both teams ran a vanilla gameplan on both sides of the ball. It was honestly the quality of a preseason game and I'm not reading too much into it. I dont think Fitz arm looked dead so much as his brain on that second interception. His arm was fine, his decision making was questionable at best.
I dont agree with that. Every throw isnt meant to be a bullet, and the ones that were looked like they always have. Either way, Tua has a weaker arm than Fitz so I dont really see how that would help.
They would be smart to base the length of Fitzpatrick’s leash on whatever developmental plan is most appropriate for Tua, because with the amount of personnel turnover this team has had, it stands very little chance of having the requisite leadership among the players coalesce within one season. With Tua or without Tua, this team is going nowhere this season.
Tua processes the field ultra-fast and has great ball placement, so he's the superior QB on paper even as a rookie. Fitz brings that 15 years of experience and leadership though, so he's probably the better choice for next week and most of this season. I am very excited to see what Tua can do but like most people here, I'm perfectly content to wait a while to see it.
I dont agree that on paper Tua is better, but that's my own personal feeling. I guess the entire question revolves around how a person evaluates Tua. Personally I think this entire QB class is going to be one of the worst in recent memory when all is said and done.
I sorta agree with this. If Tua is lost or appears totally unready, fine keep him on the bench. I wouldn't argue with that at all. Here is the thing. I have a really hard time believing that is the case. He seems like a pretty intelligent kid. Is he behind Fitz, a Harvard man with an entire career behind him, probably not. But let's be serious, I don't know if Tua will ever be smarter than Fitz. That being said, I don't think Tua is gonna the guy who will have a lot of 3 INT games in his career. He is a highly accurate passer with great anticipation. I think he will certainly have bad games, but not in the sense that he turns the ball over a ton. On the other hand, that is Fitzpatrick's MO. Things will go great for him for extended periods of time, but then he starts turning the ball over. This is where it might be better to deviate slightly from the developmental plan for Tua. There probably comes a time that a bad Tua game is better than a bad Fitzmagic game. We are also sorta struggling at WR, and having a more athletic QB could add a much needed dynamic to the team. Remember back to the Herbert/Tua argument. Personality really mattered. I wanted Herbert, but I concede that Tua has better leadership/character. I do not think that if he struggles early, it is going to ruin his career or anything. I think he is very mature and can deal with struggles probably better than many rookies that we have seen recently. If Fitz struggles again, I would be open to starting this party sooner rather than later.
It's called a projection based on their play and individual skills at the college level. You might as well draft John Beck number one overall because there is no proof from his college tape he ISNT the next Peyton Manning by this incredibly foolish logic you decided to share, which was a bad idea because it made you look really really dumb, and I dont think you are. Not sure what you mean by sample size. These guys played in college you know.
What will you do when Tua exceeds your foolishly low expectations? Will you admit to being wrong? Have you watched Tua play college football? Do you really want to argue that his accuracy, pocket awareness and overall demeanor in the pocket makes him a sure fire bust?
