Here is the list from the WHO.

    https://www.who.int/news-room/comme...plications-for-ipc-precaution-recommendations

Basically, it can transfer from many bodily fluids from one person to another, and that can include things like one person spitting or sweating on the other's clothes, and then the other person touching that spot, and then putting their finger on their own face.

Obviously, players breathing on, and inadvertantly spitting on one another happens all the time in football. I don't see how that can be avoided.

This is what I don't understand. If it can spread like that, why did the FDA say you can't get it from someone touching say, fruit in the store, and then you get it from the fruit?

There just is so much conflicting information.

That is partially due to viral load and how well it lives on individual surfaces I'd guess.

I guess that there's some nuance to it. I mean, in most cases people aren't going to be covered in sweat when they're touching produce at the store like football players are, and hopefully they aren't spitting on it. My wife and I have long done a water/vinegar rinse with all of our fruit when we bring it home anyways, and then I always rinse it with water again before I eat it.

I've researched this extensively and the CDC believes that the virus doesn't survive on most surfaces for long. They think cardboard is ideal and it could live there up to 24 to 48 hours, while it would be minutes to less than a few hours on metals and plastics. Sun exposure and good ventilation shrink that time. Meanwhile, airborne particles also last minutes to hours...but they're really not positive with any of it!

All I can say is, wipe down everything (including your hands) during any shopping trip...that's all you can really do since we don't know enough to have a definitive answer on any of this. To spin this back to the mask conversation, one of the reasons for it is you touch the checkout screen at walmart then scratch your nose (or wipe your eye, whatever), and now you have everyone else's germs on your face. I think that's the key to all this- just don't touch your face before washing your hands.

NFL teams have, technically, a “virtual bubble” around each practice facility. But the bubble bursts each night, as players and coaches go home.

Coupled with testing that has a 24-hour turnaround, the ability of players to go home (and potentially catch the virus from a family member, even if the player himself doesn’t go anywhere) creates a real risk of an outbreak. An easy way to limit that risk is to harden the bubble, putting players, coaches, and other essential staff in a hotel.

That issue has been discussed in recent days from the perspective of whether the league should mandate a harder bubble. Apparently, however, there’s another way to skin the cat: Set up a voluntary bubble.

You know, voluntary. Like voluntary workouts. Voluntary, as in not really voluntary.

That’s exactly what the Saints are doing during camp. According to the NFL, nothing prohibits it, because the Saints aren’t mandating it. It’s voluntary.

So why isn’t every team doing it during training camp? Those that do it likely will have fewer outbreaks, and in turn will have a team that is more prepared for the regular season.

As to the regular season, why not continue the voluntary bubble? If the coaches are doing it and the executives are doing it and the team leaders are doing it, everyone else will fall in line. Really, who wants to be the one who’s going home at night and showing up the next day to interact with teammates who are sacrificing family time to remain sequestered? Whether side eye or stink eye or evil eye or some combination of the three, the player who doesn’t go along will have a hard time getting along.

That’s not to say that squeezing a player to choose living with the team over living with his family is right or wrong. But the reality is that teams can set up a voluntary bubble, and that the teams that are the most effective at getting everyone to volunteer will likely do a better job of keeping their players available to play. Which will in turn give them a better chance to win.

There are several ways it can spread. They don’t completely know and, at this stage, things are still unpredictable. Regardless, I think it is safe to say that lining up face to face, breathing heavy on each other’s faces, sweating, smashing each other, bleeding etc, etc, etc, is not a good thing. It’s safe to say the risk greatly increases. That’s why the world is wearing face masks.

    https://sports.yahoo.com/source-pen...out-declare-for-2021-nfl-draft-020419910.html

Penn St LB Micha Parsons becomes the third high profile player to opt out of the 2020 season, with the expectation that he's finished playing college football, joining VT CB Caleb Farley and MIN WR Rashod Bateman. All three are expected to be first round picks.

I think that this should help persuade people that there will be a draft next April no matter what happens otherwise.

Honestly, it would be FANTASTIC for us draft wise if there was no season.

I highly doubt we end up with the #5 pick again. They would either need to roll the draft positions or do some sort of lottery for the top where our odds would still be weighted well.

Then again without a season it would be really tough to draft everyone in somewhat accurate slotting to where it should be.

There could be a Joe Burrow waiting to break out who doesnt get a shot. A guy with first round potential who goes in the 4th or later.

I think that they should be forced to join a conference full time anyways, though I think that it should be the Big 10. I'm never going to give up on my dream of WVU getting into the ACC.

The NCAA said today that any player who opts out of college football this season will retain an extra year on their scholarship, should they choose to. At the moment, the players who are opting out don't seem to be the type who will come back, but that could of course change dramatically and rapidly as we get closer to the start of the season.

They could also make the call to cancel all fall sports other than football this month, and have the power to cancel football conference championships as well.

And now the NCAA has in fact canceled sports championships at the D2 and D3 levels, with the top tier pending.

At the moment, 57 college football teams, most below D1, have already cancelled their 2020 season. That's roughly a third of the teams in D2 and D3. For now, the rest can still play regular season games without a post season if they choose to, but the expectation is that many more will follow suit.

It will be interesting to see how schools deal with the lost revenue from cancelling sports...not sure how much it affects lower schools, but D1 sports, specifically football, bring in massive amounts of money.

I'd think they'd have to? For instance, if Div 1 gets cancelled, how could Alabama afford to pay Saban without the revenue generated from playing the season? I think Alabama pulls in like $150 million from the football program?

I agree with you. But I'm not convinced that it would happen easily. There are at least 15 coaches who make more than 5m per season, and more than 25 who make at least 4m. None of them are going to end up on the street if they can't get paid in 2020. In fact, I would bet that there are boosters who would willingly give them tons of cash should it happen. College football is ridiculously dirty.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing- I'd be more worried about the guy selling programs or the girl in the concession stand that's making minimum wage plus tips. If you earned $3-5M last year but still need a weekly paycheck to make it through the season, then you did something very wrong in 2019.

Side note- NCAA players can make money off their likeness this season, can't they? I'm wondering if that will take some money out of each school's hands that would have come from boosters/sponsors. I'm not sure if that's in effect yet but it could be a "perfect storm" for college programs that need the money.

For me, almost all stadium workers are there as a part time, second job. Its not how they make their main living. So I'm not going to worry too much about it. While those are the people I care about the most in all of this, they're also I think in most cases not dependent on it.

And as for the people who own the concessions, its hard to feel bad when they're making a 90% profit on the things that they sell the fans every week.

Probably over half the stadiums in the country use a temp workforce through an events company- meaning you work the stadium for NFL sports and events, then the rest of the week maybe you cater corporate events, work the NBA/MLB games, convention center events, private catering, etc. Those folks are out of work 100%, but then again they've been drawing $800-1k a week unemployment for a job that paid them $300-400.

So I guess you're right for the most part, the heck with them...LOL! Hopefully they banked those free taxpayer bonus dollars when they could.

Restaurants are different than concession stands. They don't charge $10 for a beer when you go to Chills. Or $5 for a slice of pizza at Dominos.

The NFL will do everything it can to have a season. There is simply too much money on the line. I could see a shortened season, like 12 regular season games, and they can play a lot of games on Saturday to help fill the void of college football, so the ratings should be fantastic for most every game.

We'll see if it goes down. The colleges have been saying for months that they won't play in empty stadiums. They've been quieter about that now. It may come down to what the states and localities allow.

The NCAA has cancelled all fall sports for 2020 except for football, which it doesn't have direct control over. They will attempt to move most sports to the Spring, should circumstances allow. So for now, the only college sports still trying to take place are three of the Power Five conferences and CUSA.

Jimmy Johnson says that he plans to work from home due to the pandemic and will contribute remotely to FOX's pregame shows. I would imagine that should the NFL season move forward, there will be others in TV of advanced age or with health issues that will do the same, or sit it out.

No reason to suspect the NFL won’t play, no evidence whatsoever that you won’t see the Chiefs/Texans in a few weeks. All pro sports have been doing fantastic, only two idiotic conferences in the power 5 have made the bad decision to not play.

In going to have to adopt an interim CFB team to root for this season, but I and all of you will be watching Miami Dolphins football Sept.13th

Georgia St, who plays in the Sun Belt and hasn't yet cancelled their 2020 season, has lost their starting QB to a heart condition that developed after he contacted Covid 19. At this point, its unclear if he'll be able to play football again in the future. Despite having the dangers now obvious front and center, they still plan on continuing with their season.
