I'm working through the FF7 remake and playing MLB The Show. When I'm done with FF7, I need to clear space on the PS4, because my wife is waiting to play Ni No Kuni 2, and my daughter wants to play Dragon Quest 12. The hard drive space limitations are driving me a little nuts these days, given how big so many of the games are.
One of the benefits of living alone. I plan on playing FF7 as well. Since I am very behind on my game playing, I have decided to just play the good games on the cheaper side. So I have plenty of $20 games to play since I just got my PS4 Pro in November.
I played Kass the first run-thru and was going to do Alexios the 2nd time, but I burnt out before leaving the 1st island....that's just way too much to play thru all over again. So I'm still finishing odds and ends on Kass- I killed all the cultists, finished Atlantis and I think I have 3 bounty hunters ahead of me on the list still....I want to say I'm level 80? To me though, it's tons of fun rushing in and fighting the bounty hunters 10-20 levels ahead of me. I might die 5 times but that 6th battle makes it all worth it! The same goes for the epic creatures....that pig gave me fits early on! The sea battles were the perfect change of pace as well when you got tired of looking for something. I haven't played in a few days, but I'll probably play that one another 10-15 hours anyway to finish the final quest lines and the other odds/ends. I just enjoy the heck out of it. One of my favorite things was to go into a town, slaughter everyone and have the five-star bounty sending hunters back to back to back, then running for my life as I jumped back in, landed a few hits then ran again. I figured out rooftops make ideal hiding places once you get used to the system and circling around buildings, LOL! Then again, I played the assassin tree most of the game- turns out I liked warrior a lot better. I never tried a hunter build but still might! I just loved how you could approach a random fort and get 20-30 minutes of quality fighting time in, even when it had nothing to do with the story. I played on normal...I couldn't imagine higher difficulties because I OFTEN got my butt handed to me when I became too careless. I didn't dominate until the 60's and even then, I'd go too hard and get my feelings hurt, LOL!
Thank you. I definitely will. Generally, I do play as females when I have the choice. It is a nice change of pace.
https://gamingbolt.com/star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-is-the-first-in-a-new-franchise-says-ea-ceo EA has announced that Fallen Order is now officially the first of a new series, and other games will be made. Sweet.
For a while, when given the choice, I often did my first playthrough as a male character, making choices as I naturally would based on my own personality. And then once all the DLC was put out, I'd go back through a second time, this time as a female character, making the choices that I knew/figured would give me the "best" ending. Dragon Age series, Mass Effect series and Skyrim were all that way for me. More recently, I sometimes just choose to play as a female character because she looks cool, or I like her voice actor, or any other whim I might have.
Old World has been released. Made by the company that made the Offworld Trading Company. It is still in Early Access, so there are some bugs and features that are not fully fleshed out. I played one game and it is in a playable state. Though I did get a bug that caused me to restart the game. Also there are still places with Developer Text. So in a way it feels more like a good Alpha build than a Beta build. Alpha build is a build that the public should never see and the public should never see [STUB: XXX] in the text field. As a tester, I find it unacceptable. As a gamer it is fine mostly. It very CIV like. It does a few things different than Civ. It has Stellaris type events, which are fun, with a family tree like Crusader King. You start with real people from the past. I played the Greeks and you start with Philip whose son is Alexander. Though they were Macedonian, but who cares about accuracy. In my first playthrough Alexander wasn't that great. In my second that I started he died at 31 by drowning. Some things different that Civ. Cities have three main resources. It is either using the resources to build something, or it is using them for the empire. Food is growth. Civics is government stuff. Discipline is army stuff. So when you building workers or settlers with food, your city isn't growing. When you are building an army, your discipline isn't growing. Discipline is used to upgrade your soldiers. And when you are doing civic things like building a treasury or forum or holding a festival, your civics isn't growing. Civics is used for establishing laws and religion. It is an interesting mechanic. Another thing is that workers are very Civ IV in the sense they take a few years to build improvements like mines, lumber mills, queries. One of the main differences is that they build everything. If you want to build a granary, your worker is building a granary outside of the main capital. Same with shrines, wonders, theaters. Growth gives your cities citizens. Citizens you can take food to create specialties which both increase the output of the tile you have built your while expanding the borders of your city. Another main difference is that you have a certain amount of orders. Orders is based on the legitimacy of your leader as well as buildings and improvements in your cities. So if you have 4 scouts, 5 workers, 5 warriors, you might only have 15 orders you can give them. Each one has a certain amount of orders they can do before they become fatigued. You can push them past fatigue but that costs double orders and some discipline. So if you want to move your warrior one space beyond its fatigue level to make an attack it will cost you 4 orders and 100 disciple. The attack is another order. Luckily the game has a built in undo button if this feels overly complicated. I can go on, however, I am just getting started. I have played about 4 hours. So far, I really like it. I don't know if I am going to become kind of bored and overwhelmed but just want to win the damn game like what happens at the end of all Civ games I play. I love the first 150 turns or so, but just feel obligated to see if I can win with the last 100 or more turns in Civ games. I haven't gotten there yet. There needs to be more polish and I am very interested in seeing where this game is in a year. It is possibly a great Civ alternative for people who are looking for a good Civ but different type game.
For whatever reason I always play the female characters unless the guy just looks ultra-awesome. I just think it's cooler to have a dominant female wiping the floor with a bunch of bad guys.
Plowing through the Uncharteds. Fun to see the visuals and quality amp up through each iteration and the remasters are well done. The 4th installment was free for PS Plus and I had the collection so it made sense. Also bought Outer Worlds because I have nothing to do but game, jog, and learn piano right now. I should have waited for a sale. It's much more narratively compelling than Fallout 4 but the gameplay does feel a generation old. The visual style reminds me more of Bioshock in Outer Space than it's own thing. Art direction is good but they could use some more manpower for the next one to really bring on an extra layer of polish. I think I'm going to get the Switch versions of the Mana remake or the newest Dragon Quest next. I just worry if paying $60 for a 30 hour game, when I've already played Seiken Densetsu 3 on ROM is worth it.
It's weird because I'm figuring things out about my own morality through the game which I guess you could say is pretty crazy. I'm currently on Monarch. I sided with the botanical garden defectors on Terra 2, the independents on the space station (the name escapes me), and now I plan on helping out MSI vs. the Iconoclasts on Monarch (survival over independence and pride). Neat little nuanced choices throughout the game. Wish it had better Stealth though. I'm thinking I should have went with a more brazen build for this game.
I agree on the Outer Worlds. The graphics are badly outdated. Basically like a high end PS3 game, rather than a late era PS4. It was the second game in a row that I played like that last Autumn, after Greedfall. It was also very small in scope, just about a 30 hour game. Fun, but too brief, and not much replay value. I also downloaded the Uncharted collection, but haven't gotten back into it yet. I still have the originals, and my family still uses the PS3 every day, but I'm interested to see what extra layer of polish the remasters have.
I think Outer Worlds was a low budget game that hopefully will be expanded and improved in the sequel
Its likely. The issue for me is that the dev was bought out by Microsoft, and will likely be an Xbox exclusive from this point out. Oh well.
Also Windows as well. So it will probably be on Steam after 6 months or a year. That is too bad. I can't imagine Microsoft signing off on such an anti-capitalist message that this game has. Though I am still only about 10 hours in. I need to get back to that game. I went on a game buying spree when this happened. I need to also get back to Disco Elysium. What a mind **** that game is.
Yeah, I'm sure itll be on PCs too. I just really prefer to game on the console. I tried to do ES online on my pc when it went on sale for ten bucks, and was just so frustrated with the experience that I gave up after about ten hours.
Oh if it makes them money they will sign off on an anti-capitalist message. That my friend, is capitalism. Lol
I read an article about that a few months ago that said the exact same thing. Ironically, video games, and TV shows and movies with an anti-capitalist message get made and produced by these companies, because they're so focused on making as much money as they possibly can right now, that they don't worry about what might happen in the future.
I am playing a game called Monster Train. It is a rogue-like deck building "tower defense" game. I more want to call it a Slay the Spire + Boss Monster. I like it a lot. If you haven't played Slay the Spire, I think you should. It has started a very fun trend.
Hooked up my PC to my OLED TV.. 65 inches of pure joy with a 2060 GTX. Been playing a ton of Battlefield 1.. I know I'm late to the party but I have a 1 year and my PC has been missing in action for 2 years.. Fun to get back at it. Great game and by far the best graphics I've ever seen.
I've still never hooked a PC up to a TV. I wonder what playing Civ 6 would be like on my 65" screen? Usually, I multi task though, and watch TV at the same time that I play the game.
I completed the FF7 remake. Not surprised, but still disappointed. Imagine if FF13 and FF15 had a baby and named it FF7, and that's basically what we got. On the bright side, Square did justice to the characters, the world, and the overall vibe of it all. If you were to take all of the cut scenes and dialogue and make a movie or series from it, I'd say that they had done a really solid job. A bit confusing and sideways sometimes, but so was the original, and are most FF games. But the actual gameplay is mostly a 40 hour hallway, similar to FF13. The player has only a minimal amount of freedom in choice, there is almost no exploration, and the battle system is basically ripped straight from FF15. Due to the nature of how things operate, even though Summons and Limit Breaks are there in the game, I almost never got to use them, because you have to be deep into a long boss fight before they're able to activate most of the time. It also took me about halfway into the game before I figured out how to properly switch from one character to another to keep things moving in the right direction. I'll remain hopeful that the next part, whenever we get it, is more open world and free choice, but I won't be shocked if it isn't.
It looks interesting. Sort of a modern take on Double Dragon? If I had a Switch, I might give it a shot. But getting a Switch right now isn't exactly a reality!
Just deleted a spam account, trying to lure people to some sort of likely dangerous website in here. First time I'd seen that outside of the main section of the boards. If you guys see anything like that, let me know and I'll delete it and ban the account.
Yes actually. I just finished my first run through in story mode. It's exactly what you would want from a modern take on a 'retro' game. It plays exactly like SoR used to but the graphics, animations and polish are all updated. Music is spot on for SoR. There a decent amount of variety between the characters and some new ones can be unlocked. I found best success with Cherry who's a quicker, more nimble character than some of the bigger 'brusier' type characters. It's simple enough combat to pick up but deep enough to keep things interesting. The final big bad guys were less difficult than some others, but it was an enjoyable play though and I plan on going back and seeing if I can improve with other characters. Also looking forward to some online coop play. There's a little bit of hidden game within a game content too but don't want to throw out too many spoilers. Easy to jump into the game, play a bit, drop it, come back. Which is nice. Or else you can just 'binge' your way through levels. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Oh - I was playing on PC via Xbox Game Pass for Windows.
That honestly answered most if what I was wondering! I mostly wanted to know if it played like a SoR game but obviously with modernization, and it sounds like it does. SoR 2 is the one I personally have the most experience with. Blaze was my character in that one.
I was surprised yesterday at the announcement that GTA5 will be released for the PS5 next year. Is this the first title that will have one continuous life cycle on three console generations? Its just nuts. But I know that it basically printing money for Rockstar, and they're going to ride it as long as possible. I bought the game for the PS3, gave up on it, and thought that I might buy it cheap on the PS4 when all of the story DLC came out. Well, joke was on me! I think that I'm probably done with the series.
Me and three friends had a blast playing missions to eventually play through the heists. Unfortunately we never got more heists after that and we quickly lost interest.
Yea, I got it on Xbox 360 when it first came out, but it got lost in the shuffle as I was playing it when the Xbox One came out (which I got at release). I figured I would just get it on PC eventually when it went on sale. I think only recently (relative to it's time on PC) has it hit sale prices of $20, so I've still not picked it back up yet.
So I downloaded Madden 20 for my PS4 since it was on sale a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't bought or played Madden in probably 8 years. I am terrible as a player now (if I'm being honest, I was never great, LOL), but I enjoy the team building and I like adjusting their ratings to reflect my opinion and simulating games. Especially now with no football, I've enjoyed putting a game on and just watching it. Some aspects were annoying like horrible time management (poor QB decisions and players will be in a celebration animation as the clock runs), players will so often cut back instead of just getting the first down in obvious situations...there's more, but overall there's enough good that I was satisfied with the $20 I spent. Anyway, I've simulated about 12 games into the season and the Dolphins are currently 6-6. Meaningless, I know, but perhaps it might be interesting to some on this board.
I've taken to buying Madden every other year once it goes on sale the last few years. I that I care about is single player, offline franchise mode, and the developers have basically all but abandoned it sadly. I haven't played in a few months, but I'm sure that I'll start again later in the summer. The team building, GM aspects of the game have always been my favorite as well.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/06/cyberpunk_2077_delayed_yet_again_to_19th_november Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed again. This time pushed back from September to November 19th. This has lead to some obvious speculation that it will now be a launch title for the new XBox and Playstation systems, with them potentially being released that week. Whether that's true or not, it now likely means that I won't be buying the game at launch myself, because I'll be focused on AC Valhalla first. It also means that I might not end up buying any games between Ghost of Tsushima and the new console launch. I want to see more from Project Cars 3, now that it apparently has a Gran Turismo-like career mode and is more forgiving to less skilled drivers.
I did successful surgery on three of my Dual Shock 4 controllers today. The sticks had come apart after years of wear and tear, and in one case my kid biting it repeatedly. Two of them were as old as my PS4, almost six years. The other was newer, so it was disappointing that it had worn after just a few years, but it was a pleasant surprise that it was easier to fix once I got it open. My PS3 controllers, some of them 14 years old, and still regularly used, have never come apart this way. Here's to hoping that the PS5 ones are durable.
