I mean, we've made it known that we'd take Tua in the top 15 picks, and the only pick we have in that range is #5. That doesn't guarantee he's a Dolphin but so far, nobody else has shown interest in picking him that high. So it makes sense that Tua expects to become a Dolphin.
Every time I see Tua linked to our #5 pick, I regurgitate a little in my mouth. Don’t want a 6’1” QB with injury issues.
We are going to learn this lesson, the hard way, or should i say, the Dolphins way. I rather take a kick returner and have him drop like Brady Quinn.
Tua is a cross between Steve Young and Drew Brees. If people are complaining about his height, then their opinions on football should be discounted going forward.
Some of the mocks that I'm seeing have Tua being picked in the 20s by New Orleans or, Green Bay. What's telling is that there's really not a lot of interest in the little fella except among Miami fans.
I think people are taking the size comments as in height.. we refer to him little to frail... as in Pat White strength..
Do you Dolphins think the "franchise" aka the GM is telling that to the media to drive Tua price up and have other GMs that need QB bite and try to work some magic on the draft night? Hmm...thats a good strategy, if thats the case.
I don't think so since "Tank for Tua" was all the media talked about for the first month of the season. Ross and Grier have both publicly said (before his injury) that they want to rebuild around Tua, and I'd imagine that they've really done their homework the past few weeks to see if they need to try trading up for Burrow or landing someone else later in the 1st. I guarantee those decisions have already been made and we haven't hosted any other QB workouts this offseason, which makes me think we're either grabbing Tua at #5 or we're not getting a QB this year at all.
I suppose they'll get plenty of chances to check his hip before the draft. I can't help but think it's a lot to risk on a guy who had an injury that severe.
Oh this is absolutely happening. You guys that don't want this to happen just need to learn to like it. In fact, I wonder how much of it is personal agenda vrs the injury vrs just not liking Alabama football. What if he didn't have the injury? What if he played for Michigan instead? What if we already had a solid offensive line? This guy is super talented, and every bit as talented as Burrow. He just needs to stay healthy. Not all of us just want the team to draft offensive linemen all the time. There are actually other positions to pick from believe or not and we haven't taken a quarterback with our first pick since 2012...That's 8 years ago...and we still don't have a QB, so it's time to try again. After we take Tua with the 5th pick, we can spend every other pick in the draft on offensive tackles so that #TeamTrenchBuilders are happy (even though they still wont be because nobody ever is and then we die). Believe me, i'm all for taking nothing but big gigantic beefy blockers the rest of the draft. Just give us a new quarterback, let him sit until he's ready and lets just continue to build this team.
Could it be Griers plan all along though? Act like their so in love with Tua and have his price go up and try to get other teams to bite for more picks?
Nothing to do with Alabama football, though the program has a bad history wrt NFL caliber QBs. And I am not convinced it's absolutely happening. A lot depends on medical exams before the draft.
He's had his fair share of injuries. I think it's a fake critique. I'll still take him and risk the 5 pick for him. Before the hip I would have also given up 18 to move down. Not so much only because of the injury.
Youd make an horrible GM if literally thats your arguing point. "All we do is draft linemen, lets just draft a diff position since we aint drafted one in 8 years with our first rd pick" literally should be fired immediately
What mocks? I read tons of mocks from all manner of sites and none show Tua going anywhere near that far. For a brief period of time right after the injury there was an overcorrection where he was shown in that range, but once the prognosis was good and with him being on or ahead of schedule (and noted to likely throw at the combine/before the draft) he is right back up there. Detroit sports radio definitely disagrees with your assessment that there is "not a lot of interest" - quite a few people are pissed that Detroit will probably pass because Quinn and Patricia are in "save your job" mode. No, because you would set yourself up for a very negative fan reaction. If this is his plan, he is doing it poorly so far, and way overselling the point. Besides, showing us with that interest won't likely spur discussion for our #5, but rather the 3-4 slots instead.
If Miami doesn't take him at 5. San Diego is for sure taking him at 6. I saw a mock with the Dolphins taking Jordan Love at 5. Now that would be a reach and a half. TAKE TUA
I wanted Matt Ryan when we drafted Jake Long. I’d love to take a QB this year and figured we would be this year until we started winning and Tua got injured. I’ve liked Burrow over Tua for awhile now. It’s got nothing to do with Alabama or anything other than I just don’t want to take a QB coming off a major hip injury with our #5 pick. I’d be happy to take him with one of our other first round picks.
I think that there is zero doubt that they are sending signals. This is a business. The higher he is drafted, the more money he can make. Pragmatically, Cincy is likely not a real option. In all honesty, if I were Tua, I would much rather head to South Beach than Cincy. Of all people in this draft, Tua has the least amount of leverage when jockeying to play in a specific city. I promise you that he will continue to say, "I would be happy to play anywhere." I think that he has a very real understanding that his medicals will turn some teams away - the only question is, "How many?" Any agent worth his salt would keep his client abreast of this situation and warn him of the worst case scenario - 10+ teams could not be willing to spend a first round pick on him, so it is instrumental to make the best possible impression on the teams that are willing to use a first round pick on him. I truly think that the difference between Herbert and Tua is razor thin. Personally, I think Herbert is the much safer choice. That being said, when the difference is so small, little signals like this could play a big part of the ultimate decision. Now I know that some of you guys are thinking, "Come on. Nobody is gonna change their mind over a guy's shoes." I would say, you are probably right. However, it is more than just the kicks. If the decision is a virtual toss-up, and one guy has made it abundantly clear that he wants to be a Miami Dolphin THAT could push the decision over the top. The past impacts the present. We are just coming off of losing Minkah who notched a defensive MVP caliber year because he didn't want to be a Dolphin. That does not bode well for Chris Grier. Ross wanted Lamar Jackson. After watching the Ravens, this has to be in the back of his mind. Whether or not it was even possible to know it ahead of time, we ultimately picked a guy that did not want to be here. I would think it wise for Frier to not make the same mistake twice.
That wasnt his point at all. His point is QB is probably the most important position, even if a QB cant win alone, and for that reason its imperative to try and acquire talent when its available. He obviously likes Tua, he isnt saying just take any QB at #5.
At #5? Yes. Easily. Is he the safest? No. Any QB is a risk, one with a fairly major injury even moreso. But the potential and upside at THE premier position that Tua represents makes him by far the best value.
You mean the Lamar Jackson who just got knocked out of the playoffs by our 6-year starter Ryan Tannehill? I bet Ross was throwing an absolute tantrum watching that game and thinking about how inept his staff was at evaluating quarterbacks.
Well, Ross has already handed them the keys to the kingdom, so he can only hope it works out with all the picks and cap space. I'd have to think that Ross has some doubts creeping in though.
The question is not about his talent, he is a top 5 talent. The question is his injury history. Multiple injuries with the last hip injury being a very serious one. There is no history of a football player ever coming back from that type of hip injury and playing at a high level. Bo Jackson's hip injury was actually less traumatic (partial dislocation vs. Complete dislocation) than Tua's and Bo wasnt even able to play baseball again at a high level let alone a contact sport like football. I would not draft tua at all.
Fairly minor injury? When have you ever heard of a high level football player coming back from a hip dislocation?
No, not with that hip injury he is not. I would actually lile us to tradd down from number 5 and nab some more 2nd and 3rd round picks.
Hard for me to believe that Tua's camp is crossing their fingers and pretty much preparing to be the.........Wait..........the......#5 overall pick? C'mon man. This dude was the consensus #1 pick coming into the year, now Im to believe he is salivating and promoting to go at 5? Sounds like some national enquirer type stuff.
Did you hear he dislocate his hip and fractured his hip socket? Players dont just come back from that type of injury. I would not draft tua at all. Maybe in the 6th or 7th round id take a chance on him. But definitely not on day 1.
Let me say this again, his height of 6’1” was brought up as if it was an issue. It is not. It is not the reason he was injured and it is not a hindrance to his play in anyway.
More like senior bowl showing. But don’t rule it out. It’s the closest thing to Mahomes the leagues seen skill set wise and nfl decision makers are gonna put weight in it
