If this is a serious conversation, I'd say Cheryl Miller. She was the best female pro basketball player in the world, and could probably beat half the dudes in the NBA then. She was the Jordan of women's basketball. No one has been as good since either. I'd probably then say the Williams sisters next. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
I was hoping for a serious conversation. And you're right, Cheryl Miller is certainly in it. I posed the question because I have been DVRing the Bear Grylls Running Wild Series. The other night, there was nothing on TV so I watched a few episodes. Lindsey Vonn was ultra-competitive. I looked into her resume and she is easily the most decorated female Nordic skier ever and on the verge of being the best downhill skier period. I met Serena Williams at the Crystal Mall in Palm Beach Gardens about 10 years ago and have no doubt she could kick my azz.
I like Serena but if it wasnt for that ridiculous serve, not sure shes a top ten tennis player.. Shes got skills, but in my opinion Simona Halep is the most skilled tennis player in the WTA and one day will be rewarded with a slam. Id say Serena is the most dominant because of her serve, not the best athlete ever though. People talk about her surpassing Steffi but lets remember before Monica Seles got stabbed, Steffi was getting ***** slapped around by Seles who was only 19 and dominating..
Simona is definitely an up and comer. I'm trying to identify the best female athlete of all time as it stands right now.
If it wasn't for his amazing speed, Usain Bolt wouldn't be the fastest man alive. What are you even saying? Sent from my OnePlus 3
That her overall skillset on the court is not that much superior than the rest. When she faces a fault on her serve and dials it down for her second serve by a top player her skillset gets challenged. Simona got her to three sets. She faced a person with a similar serve in Pliskova and lost. And no one that watches tennis regularly was that shocked by it
Brady's a 4-time Super Bowl champion . 6th round pick to Hall of Fame. No question IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reggie has always said he was the second best basketball player in his household. Cheryl is a legend. I'd nominate Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Medaled in four Olympics. Still holds the heptathlon world record. #2 in long jump. Also excelled at other events. Did it all clean. Flo Jo might be my all time fav, at least as a kid. She was Usain Bolt 30 years ago. Still holds the 100 and 200 records. Flashy
Babe Zaharias! And it's not even close! When Serena can do all that babe could, let me know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Way to assume these athletes genders........let me know how the Klan meeting goes. And obviously (assuming she is a 'F') is Jackie Joyner Kersee, unlike some others her ability wasn't polarized to Tennis or Basketball etc.
Serena will be going for a record tying 24 slams this saturday against my favorite WTA player, Simona Halep. Hope Simona wins, but ill be just as happy for Serena because her career is the gold standard.
This time Simona swept her *** easily and took the Wimbledon championship. all the players have to do is get past the 107+ mph first serves.. once the ball is returned a top player like Simona can put pressure on Serena. Happy that simona won, been a huge fan of her game for years.
Though you could often say the same thing about men, I think that its important to ask what you mean by the question itself. Is it "which woman was the best ever at her sport, compared to all others in all sports?", or "which woman was the moth athletic/strongest/fastest, ect?" I think that both questions are valid, but you likely get a different answer depending on which one you mean. You could argue that some of the women who are competing today in things like Crossfit, Spartan Challenge, Ninja Warrior, ect are much better athletes than the ones who have been the greatest at sports throughout history. It just depends on how you look at it.
That's what I was thinking as I read through the answers. Some were talking about the most decorated in a given sport (rings, trophys, titles, records, etc.) others were talking about the best athletes. I read the question as referring to the best athlete not the most decorated.
Yeah, me too. That's why I said best gymnast which I guess would be Nadia Comenici though I'm no expert on gymnastics. A middle of the road gymnast is a better athlete then the best tennis player
