Next year really doesn’t matter. This is a rebuild. Let’s see what we have. If we suck, let’s draft wisely

If we could trade for Rosen, that would be my number one choice. Otherwise yes, start one of those two.

I’m not smart enough to know the answer. I do know what we had wasn’t working and welcome change. I can choose to trust what who we have leading our organization or be angry. I’m gonna trust who we have leading this organization.

I think not having a legitimate QB to sell a locker room is a quick way to create a mutiny in the locker room.

There are 51 other professional players and a coaching staff trying their best to have successful and lucrative careers. Honestly, how would you feel if you played on the offensive side of the ball and were in a contract year, and tweedle dee or tweedle dumb is throwing you the ball. I would be livid. Oftentimes, when you see guys being divas, there are two sides to the story. I would try and force my way out of town. This is a brutal business in which guys are here today and gone tomorrow.

I will give you a perfect example. Take a guy like Albert Wilson. Wilson is 26 an in the 2nd year of a three year deal. He is set to make $8.3 mil this year with almost all of it guaranteed. Next year, he is set to make about $11 million with zero guaranteed this year, and he will hit free agency again when he is 29 with the potential of another big pay day.

If he has a solid season this year, undoubtedly, he can get that big $11 million deal and put himself in solid position to get that final pay day. If I were him, I would be scared to death, that Ruddock or Falk will the cause of a lackluster season, and it could cause him to not get his $11 million dollars, and even scarier, diminishing his value in free agency. His last pay day could very easily not be indicative of his skill. Honestly, this season could unfairly destroy his career. And this is just one player.

Guys will start talking, and sooner or later, they will realize that the FO/coaching staff is putting themselves above the team.

I really think we need to produce a strong culture and bring in a respectable name as a starter.

Wilson is an excellent candidate, due to his deal and that he was signed to fit Gase's offense, to trade after this year. That's my hope at least.

Bring in a veteran like Fitzpatrick or McCown to compete the Falk and Rudock. Let the best man man win.

There would only be 3-4 guys who might possibly see their numbers decline significantly, so that's not something you can't come back from. As much as I love Albert Wilson, we can't make franchise decisions based solely on whether he's happy or not.

It's not uncommon to roll with a young, cheap QB stable and let them duke it out for the job. Doing so doesn't automatically alienate the team, if that's what they decide to do.

Really? Name the last time a team has rolled into a season with QBs like Fales and Ruddock....

This is still the NFL and tirty is 100% correct. You absolutely cannot roll into the season with those two at QBs. Planning for next year is fine. But you better bring in a vet QB or this rebuild will be a disaster.

You do realize that's EXACTLY what Gase did, and ultimately got fired for....right?

Five teams started rookies last season and there was no mutiny. In fact, it worked out nicely for Cleveland once they benched their "respectable name" QB that some people here really wanted. Falk is basically a rookie who got hurt early on and spent a year in the NFL learning the playbooks. It's not crazy to start him if they see potential...it's what NFL teams do these days.

Falk is not Mayfield. Sorry, I know some people like him, but if we are being realistic, he has only the slimmest of chances of even being a Prescott.

We absolutely need another body. Ruddock is a nobody. Camp arm. Third stringer.

Falk is worth letting compete, but not a guy you mark as a starter. Gotta pull in a McCown, Fitz or someone just as a minor stabilizing presence.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. You're essentially getting a rookie QB so you wouldn't need to be drafting one for a couple years. So you could try to get more players to win with now.

It would allow the team to really focus on drafting defensive players and offensive lineman this year and next.

Unless trading for him costs several picks. Then that hurts your ability to pick up other players.

Only two ways you go for Rosen - you get him very cheaply, or you believe in him as the next QB.

I think the only reason to pursue Rosen is if you believe he can be your franchise QB. That's why Unlucky wants them to go after him.

I can think of a handful of Dolphins teams, for example, that featured QBs less desirable than Fales or Ruddock. Unless, of course, you weren't a fan back in the Pat White days or the Cleo Lemon days.

I think there's definitely an implication with Rosen that he would be available for cents on the dollar, so it's reasonable to assume if that were not the case then everyone's interest level would severely drop. Any teams who believed in Rosen THAT badly probably would have traded up to get him last year.

The worst Dolphins QB unit of my lifetime was 2004, and I still contend that that season was worse than 2007. Two ugly wins against other horrible teams at the end of the year took the focus off how very terrible that offense was.

That's basically my expectation for 2019. The difference though is that we see it coming, and its understood that it's part of the overall process.

I agree that Ruddock is just a placeholder- some would argue that he doesn't have backup NFL talent (average college arm, not particularly great reading the field, etc.). I have no idea why we even grabbed him to be honest- I'd take David Fales over him in a heartbeat.

With Falk, I don't know the kid's potential since he hasn't played a snap in the NFL. However, if we're in tank for tua mode then why does it even matter? Just re-sign Fales, let him compete with Falk for the start, and let the season play out how it seems destined to do anyway. If the goal is losing, then I fail to see how any of our 3 quarterbacks are under-qualified.

But what if Falk is decent? What if we actually win a few early games with him? To me, that's a win/win scenario no matter what happens. Either he turns into the guy or we grab Tua after going 0-16.....where's the downside?

If we are sticking with Falk and Rudock, I would go out and sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to serve as a veteran presence and mentor (or Josh McCown if the Jets let him go). Let them compete in preseason and if one of the youngsters wins the job, great; if not, let Fitzpatrick start for us. Only downside to that potentially is that Fitzpatrick could win us games, but as veterans go Fitzpatrick would be a good pick up because he has shown in the past that he can be the veteran backup or stopgap starter. Same goes for Josh McCown.

I'd even feel the same way if we draft a quarterback in the first round this year. Bring in Fitzpatrick to either be the temporary starter while the rookie is coached up, or be the veteran backup if the rookie wins the job, both ways he can help serve as a mentor.

Only time I wouldn't bring in a veteran is if we draft a mid round quarterback, then I would let him compete with Falk and Rudock for the starter's job.

Yeah, I'd go with this. McCown would be a more stable presence at QB (no great games, no real bad ones), but the roller coaster ride of Fitzmagic would make for more entertaining games.

If we use any capital for a QB, the FO must dedicate picks/money to fixing the O line. I don't have any idea if Josh Rosen can play QB in the NFL, but apparently, Arizona's line was terrible. We don't want to waste a second round pick on a guy that has already been through a 50 sack season by letting him develop bad habits.

I'd be fine if they wanted to spend up to a fourth rounder on a project QB and let the young guys compete to backup the veteran QB.

I mostly agree with your main point. However, I also believe that Rosen is the best QB to come out in several years, and if we were to get a chance at him, we need to take it, and then use the draft to fortify the OL immediately.

IMO unless you have an established starter, mid/late round picks on QBs are a complete waste unless it's a really really unique player. Tyree Jackson might fit the bill, but as for Stick, Rypien, Grier, etc ... please no.

A third for Rosen should be a done deal unless Grier really doesn't like the kid or something bad last year.

I dont think you understand what was said if youre bringing up Pat White. When Pat White was with Miami, our QB room featured a 2nd rounder in Chad Henne and a proven winner and vet in Chad Pennington.

The year of Cleo Lemon, we once again had a 2nd round QB in John Beck and a proven vet in Trent Green.

So once again....and thankfully this point is moot now that the Dolphins proved to understand this point...show me a team rolling into the season with the likes of Fales and Ruddock at QB?

This is the most underrated response on this board. I think that this is another example of doublethink that fans do. I never understood how fans can think that a player is not good enough to be taken in the first round, while simultaneously thinking that the player is not worth taking in the first round.

I think that taking flyers on mid round QBs hurt a team far more than they help a team. 3rd and 4th round picks have a realistic shot of being starters/solid contributors at inexpensive prices. At this point in the draft, I really think that teams should take the BPA.
