This is the least exciting month of the entire year in the NFL, so let's spice things up with some salaciously unpopular opinions, starting with the least exciting coach in the league: Brian Flores! Listening to Brian Flores speak to the media is so mind numbing that I could fall asleep the second he opens his mouth. He goes far beyond the normal pre-draft trope. He needlessly rambles on during interviews, repeats himself often, and rarely ever seems to have a point to make. I'd honestly rather watch paint dry than listen to this man speak. For the life of me I can't quantify how this man aced an interview...any interview...ever. It's possible Ross fell asleep during the Flores interview and was too embarrassed to admit it, so he just hired the guy instead. Essentially, he's Bill Belichick when the microphone is on. Hopefully he's also Bill Belichick when the microphone is off. Jokes aside, I still think he's going to be an awesome coach. Now, hit me with your unpopular opinions. You think we should trade for Josh Allen? Perfect. You secretly hate Cameron Wake? Now's your chance. You think Stephen Ross is really an alien? Well, duh...but this is your opportunity to get it all out there!
I think that he's boring on purpose, like his former boss Darth Hoodie. Now, that's not what I want our head coach to be. I'd like him to show some personality and humanity, and be a little interesting. But it is what it is.
Ratings are not showing this. NFL still one if the highest rated TV program. The loss in ratings is relative to ratings drop overall
The amount of time invested in attempting to predict drafts and passion displayed defending those opinions is crazy to me. If it's just fun, then fine, but this stuff gets so serious and people get so offended/engaged, in things that may never be - likely won't be - that it reaches the ridiculous. I may as well study and debate the way my mail falls to the ground through my letterbox - the physics of each letter type, the influence of the mailman, the humidity... Honestly, this time of year should be where everyone goes off and does other things while waiting for the actual football (pre) season to start. So much time and life gets wasted during this period.
Mock Drafts are a huge waste of time. The combine is nerdier than San Diego comic con and is better to be read after than actually watched. Draft grades are even more stupid as Oscars awards. Both need actual time before we know if the thing is good.
I really wish that we didn't play in aqua. It's such a girlie colour. It's a pastel for crying out loud not a primary colour. Something akin to a Hurricanes green would be much better. In fact ANY shade of green would look better on a cap or a sweatshirt or a hoody. Even brown looks better than bloody aqua! Who the flipperty fook started an american football team and then decided that its main colour would be aqua? I mean like...WHAT??? JR - "No, for we shall not play in a war-like blood red, or a steadfast and true blue, or even a demonic and scary black.... I decree that we will play in............ aqua!" DT - "Ha ha ha ha, for a minute there, I thought you said 'aqua', ha ha... Aqua...chortle... can you imagine it..... Joe, why are you looking at me like that? No! You are not serious..!!?!?" I suppose I should be grateful that in 1966 there was no such thing as a Dulux Colour Chart or we could've ended up with a nice Misty Buff or an Autumn Sunrise or something? But aqua? Sheeesh! There, said it.
In January of 1985, as an 8 year old growing up in west Virginia, I chose to root for the Dolphins in the super bowl, because: A) aqua was/is my favorite color and B) dolphins were my favorite animal So it was a really easy choice based on multiple coincidences, lol. And here I am, 34 years later, a diehard devotee. I will say that I dont like the current pastel shade. But the darker color on the throwbacks is absolutely perfect.
Who likes aqua? People who grow up staring out over the sea. If they did change it I'd be up for a darkish grey.
Another unpopular opinion of mine is the NFL has too many dark color uniforms and most of them are boring. Keeping boring designs for tradition sake is asinine
Doing anything for tradition is asinine. But keeping dark jerseys because they're subjectively better is cool!
While we're talking about jerseys and unpopular opinions, I've obviously watched Kyler Murray over the past couple months. I believe Oklahoma's throwbacks, the ruby red and off-white, to be the most gorgeous jerseys in college football. (I don't even know if they're throwbacks).
The "No Fashion League." Coaches should also be allowed to wear suits on the sideline. I'm tired of all the camo hoodies.
My unpopular opinions: - I think Tannehill got a bad shake - I think we should have traded Wake when we could have gotten meaningful picks for him - I hate the old logos. I don't love the current one, but its better than the special needs dolphins in safety helmets. - I hate the 90's era hunter green we had - I'm worried that fans will expect us to recreate the Pats success with Flores and company but we won't because Belichick and Adams are cheaters and kept that aspect from Flores and the rest of the staff. So Flores, thinks Belichick's ways work, but he'll be missing the whole cheating part. - Our team is average, not horrible. We need a couple of elite playmakers. Trade whatever we have to to get those playmakers. You think Murray or Bosa are great? Trade whatever to get one. - I think Rosen could run a Pats style offense pretty well - I still think coleslaw is the most disgusting normal food there is
That's pretty much how it was for me in 1991. I loved dolphins and I really liked the 'special needs' logo, although if I'd gone all in for my favorite animal, I'd be a Lions or Bengals fan now.
I've already shared my unpopular opinions, but here's a summary- 1) The Jets will make the playoffs this season...we won't. The Jets will also sweep us. 2) Tannehill will compete to replace Tom Brady after he retires- we will nickname him Welker II and complain about letting him walk. 3) Flores will be fired in 2021 or 2022, mainly due to Ross's stupidity. Gase will be in NY for the next decade.
I thought firing Gase, or any HC, after one of the most injury plagued seasons of all time was short sighted and foolish, but I'm starting to think Grier sold Ross on hiring Flores before the season was even over. He sold Ross on being the Miami Patriots and it worked. Shy of winning the Super Bowl, Gase was gone no matter what. The only consolation I have is that Gase seems to have built another ticking time bomb in NY.
I think it we will need to be 5 or 6 games into the season before our new coach will have enough meaningful team insight and information to speak with more specificity. Whether he will or not is another topic, but I suspect he will be a little more forthcoming after we get some wins under our belt.
Unpopular opinion Kenyan Drake is overrated by dolfans. I think he's a good complimentary back if paired with a work horse but I don't think he'll ever be as good as some people think he is.
Good thread idea. My unpopular opinion... I want Flores to bring all of the cheating ideas over to the Phins that he has learned from the Patriots. I don't give a damn if we cheat...I want to win. Deflate balls, pay refs, whatever.... I don't mind becoming the bad boys of the NFL, as long as it brings championships. WIN
What's the point of winning as a fan, if your team cheats to do it? If you are part of the team, I get it (I don't condone it, by I understand the motivation), because there's money and fame involved, but as a fan?
