McDaniels was set to be HC for the Colts. He had agreed, was all set to start and then at the last minute reneged on the deal and returned to the Patriots. Will Flores do the same?

    One writer says no...

I still think McD has a handshake deal to replace Bill in a year or two.

Doubt Flores would pull similar, plus, no other Pats hired coaches have done it. I get that it's slow news with only a few teams still playing and most coaches officially hired, but this is kind of a tired and annoying topic.

We heard from Manning and a few players I believe, but not about any league wide sort of respect beyond being considered a good OC.

Until they have a press conference announcing and Introducing him as the head coach, there does have to be the concern that he will do the same thing as McDaniels, yes. He could change his mind at any point and back out, leaving us with nothing.

The ultimate Belicheck move...hype up your own coaches, get them to commit to your rivals and then back out mid Feb leaving them with leftover scraps of a staff and setting them back 3 more years. It's so genius and evil lol.

Nearly as tiring as this persistent Harbaugh trade talk. Which jas absolutely no truth to it all. Now that Harbaugh has gotten his extension that talk will hopefully go away too.

There have been studies that show that people with high intellect do worse in the stock market than people with average intelligence. The theory they come up with is the fact that highly intelligent people tend to stay in bad investments longer because they trust their data. People with average intelligence are better at bailing.

IMO, that describes Gase to a T. He is very intelligent, however, he is slow to adjust his overall scheme because he feels like he is the smartest person in the room and it should work.

Ya know when he talked I never got the impression of hi level intellect so I really don’t know where it comes from, all I had to go on and why I gave him the chance is because manning said he was a genius..so I figured if he thought that then he’s worth a shot..

I always go back to my rule of thumb.. the chances of someone reaching the highest level in multiple professions is slim and none..

I wouldn't say OC or DC to HC is a change og professions. It's a raise within your profession.

Honestly, that doesn't even make the smallest amount of sense. It implies there is a level of success after which you shouldn't hire a person.

I trust Peyton Manning's opinion of him than anyone on this board's. All we have is clips and interviews. Manning is a very intelligent quarterback, and if he says Gase is a genius, then Gase is a genius. An offensive genius does not mean he will become a good head coach.

Yeah the problem here is that no one has devised a good measure of "intelligence" that includes smart decision making. If you notice IQ tests generally test for the recognition of simple patterns. There's nothing in IQ tests that tests a person's ability to make smart decisions or even sound logical thinking when a superficial pattern might lead to the wrong conclusion.

So a better measure of intelligence would probably not lead to such results.

Otherwise, let's note that humans in general have trouble bailing on bad investments and that many people with all kinds of IQ scores have a superiority complex, thinking they're better than the experts in the field. So you can't really tell from Gase's behavior, and certainly not from other people's testimonials, whether he would get the ultra high IQ score (~125 or greater, which means you're like top 5%) to even fall into the category you described.

And I do not believe in IQ tests at all. Unless you are testing the current intellect of a 5 year old child, which is what it was designed to do, and I do pretty much see it as a way to test people on how good they are at taking tests.
