You're welcome. I think this goes back to the point of individual choice on whether he/she wants to help. When I wrote the OP, my intention wasn't to try to turn those who are indifferent to the cause of pet welfare. It was more to appeal to those who would want to help and were unaware.

That's interesting but I wonder how well that would fare in a country like India. Hindus are vegetarians and if Hallal is similar to Kashrut in this regard, then rats couldn't be eaten by Muslims. I don't if that's the case, it's just a reasonable guess since rats are not kosher.

miamian you're getting wayyy too wrapped up in this dude.

if humans were not intervening, that cat would be dead by now.

    period.

and that's mother nature's way of handling the situation. because we, humans, are so arrogant we think we can "play god" and keep the cat alive doesn't make the cause any more noble. and frankly i think its downright ridiculous that you associate this with hospice care for one's parents. COMPLETELY apples to oranges. that cat did not bring me into this world, raise me, and be a part of my life for 60+ years. its a house pet. we have surreal connections and attractions to our pets, no doubt. but when the animal struggles to live, and cannot on its own, then it's time to go.

I'm sorry Tex, I can't agree. Please accept that I don't share you view. For me, if the love is that strong then it's good to act.

If my cat were suffering, G-d forbid, I would do whatever it took to get him better. He's so much more than just property to me. He would always sleep with me. Once, I was sound asleep, and I absolutely DESPISE being woken up. He was sneezing so much that he woke me up out of that sleep. Do you think that I got angry? Heck no! Anger never crossed my mind for even a split-second. I only thought "what's wrong?" And that was just sneezing. It turns out that he had a respiratory infection and I had to medicate him. I've also had to feed him with a syringe and as has been said, it's not fun. He's scratched me a few times. Has it ever p'd me off. NEVER.

He lives with my mother now and I still miss him after 4 years. She was an avowed cat hater while I was growing up and she adamantly refuses to give him up when I've suggested sending him to me or taking him back with me.

I had a dog growing up, a Doberman that we adopted as a puppy. She lived for 11 and a half years and probably would have gone longer had she not been attacked by a pit bull when she was about 7 or 8.

Was it a bargain that a Doberman's normal life span is 10 years? Not for me. When she passed I was devastated. My eyes were red for days, so were my mother's. I lost in class the next day. Even years later I would see her picture and start to cry.

There are a LOT of non-veg Indians in India...some Hindus are more "devout" than others... and the younger generations are moving away from the strict vegetarian rules. A lot of chicken and lamb in the resturants there. Not much beef, as cows and ox remain sacred to most folk therre.
But I was surprised at how much meat was consumed in a country I always thought to be mostly "vegetarian".
Personally... I didn't eat much meat while there, unless I could identify it as definately chicken etc.. there is a surprising lack of cats running around over there. :shifty:

i respect your point of view, but for your own sake (and health), i think you get too much wrapped up in something so insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

you say "if it was my cat..." - let me stop you right there. it's NOT your cat brother. if it WAS, then i could see if you had a strong emotional attachment due to years of service to you, etc.... but this isn't your cat. seems like some random animal you "chose" to save today. you can't save every animal man... why not pick the ones that REALLY need your help that you CAN do something about?

say you donate money to the molly "cause" (and i use that term loosely).... you keep her alive another couple of days... some more days of syringe-injected meals. that doesn't "cure" her, and just postpones the inevitable. why not focus your passion (which is good - nothing wrong with passion) on animals that actually CAN be saved? i don't challenge your passion for animals overall, i'm challenging your passion for this animal.

lost cause. old age. no personal attachment.

    why?

Anyone who's owned a cat knows that the cat doesn't service you, it's 100% the other way around. What they give you is love and affection, if it's a friendly cat and mine is very much.

Girgurim, IMO, put up the page about Molly as a good example of their needs. When you donate, at least when I did, it went to them generally, not specifically for Molly. It makes sense anyway, they can buy their materials in bulk.
